Shogun Japanese and Chinese Bistro

I recently tried takeout from Shogun Chinese and Japanese Bistro, and I'd say it was a solid three-star experience. It's clear that the place might still be recovering from the effects of the pandemic, as the overall atmosphere seemed a bit rundown and in need of a refresh.The takeout service was quick, which I appreciated. As for the food, it was a mix of highs and lows. The lemon chicken had an odd appearance, almost like breaded fish, but thankfully it wasn't. The batter, while flaky, was a bit strange, but I did like that it could easily be removed if you didn't want it. The beef and broccoli dish was decent, though the sauce was thicker than I prefer, and there was way too much of it, making the dish a bit overwhelming. On the plus side, the eggrolls were crispy and packed with flavor, which was a nice contrast.The wonton soup was where I felt the meal fell short. It was more broth than anything else, with just a few vegetables thrown in, so it lacked the substance I usually enjoy in a soup. However, the flavor was there, and we did enjoy it overall.Inside the restaurant, it seemed pleasant enough, though I didn't dine in. It's worth noting that they no longer accept Apple Pay, possibly due to fraud issues, and they automatically add an 18% gratuity for dine-in customers, likely to ensure the staff, especially the hibachi chefs, are fairly compensated.In the end, I left a 20% tip on my takeout order because I genuinely want to see this place succeed. I hope they can regain the quality and atmosphere they had before COVID. It's not a bad spot, but it didn't wow me either. Here's hoping they bounce back to their former glory.

What a nice restaurant. First time here and watching our food being prepared right in front of us was pretty nice. Inside has very nice decor. Staff very friendly. Food was very very good.

Yeah...I'm reviewing this hidden gem again. Another great experience at Shoguns St Claire Shores. The server Bim-Bim only works on Thursdays, but she was VERY attentive to our every need. Seriously tho...this Japanese restaurant has great food,a very friendly staff and they're fairly inexpensive besides the 18% gratuity when you sit down. Honey,take your man here for an inexpensive but fun date...you will not regret it.

Had dinner party at the hibachi bar. The rice wasn't cooked so it was hard and crunchy. The Hibachi shrimp was wayyyy over cooked so it was rubber. The sushi was OLD, hard and NO flavor The staff was nice but the food was BAD. Would NOT recommend. Go to YUMMY SUSHI on Gratiot

Great food and great service. We sat at the hibachi grill where you can also order Sushi. Restaurant also has a non- hibachi side that just serves Chinese food and sushi. Great place. Will definitely come back.

Did a carry out. Chicken almond was so horrible had to throw it in the garbage. Could not cut it with a knife! Must have been from someone else's leftovers. Definitely not fresh! Stay away!

As someone who is visiting from out of state this restaurant came highly recommended. I was very disappointed in the service. The hostess was very rude after we came into the restaurant on time for our reservation. The hibachi show was not very interactive, which is very disappointing However, the food was very good and the portions sizes were great. If you dont mind poor service its a a great place to go.

Needless to say, I will never eat here again. Pepper steak was extremely salty. I got a headache after just a few bites. The shrimp fried rice was like regular rice with about 6 jumbo shrimp added to it. The peppers steak was very chewy. This was my second time getting food that was not edible. I'm done!
