Shantie Food & Spirit

I walked into this place with no expectations, but it wound up being a very charming little bar/lounge/restaurant with some of the best food I've ever had. They have a kitchen and wait staff that know what they're doing when it comes to food and treating guests well. Everyone we encountered was very down to earth. They weren't pretentious and had a genuine disposition. It's definitely an older place and you can tell that when you walk in, but don't let that stop you from giving this place a try. Dated or not, it was a cozy environment with wonderful food and truly friendly staff.

Another awesome meal for a ridiculously reasonable price. I had a Rueben for $7.99 that had a large amount of tasty corned beef on nicely toasted rye, and a pile of crinkle cut fries were included in the price.My wife substituted grilled chicken for the fried chicken in a chicken club sandwich. Unlike most places, the grilled chicken was perfectly cooked: thick, moist, and tasty. Only $6.99 with fries included.As before, a giant beer (20 ounces) was only $3 for a premium bock beer. A whisky sour only set us back $3.50.Including coleslaw, the meal for two with drinks only set us back $25. Where else can you get a tasty meal for two with drinks for such a bargain price?

What a trip down memory lane. I haven't been to this place in years and much hasn't changed. Still very well kept, a local hangout with cold drinks and great food. Prices are so reasonable, and the staff is very friendly whether you are there just to drink or if you're there for a meal. The menu is extensive, and like I said before the price is very very fair. If you haven't been there, make sure you stop by and support the small business.

This place always blows my mind on how good of a meal you can have an older style bar. Smelt dinners are the best I've ever had, I've seen people melt over their stuffed burgers. Today me and my gramma had 3 sliders each with fries and they were fantastic! I took my ex here a while ago and she ordered the polish plate and I think I had a mushroom Swiss burger or something and they were both perfect. Chicken Monterey is the best food that I've ever tasted in this life!Update: 12-30-19Ordered the Wet Chicken Burrito today and my gramma had the perch. Her perch was nasty and an orange color like a sweet potato! My wet burrito looked amazing until I cut it open and it was full of fn lettuce and cold shredded cheese!!! Lost 2 customers that have been going for years.

We came in to celebrate after a trade school graduation; it was around 1700.The waitress's and servers on the Day shift immediately gave smug attitudes to us; not being "Regulars". Being unable to know who we were; didn't seem to fit well with them.(Even though our party has frequented the establishment various occasions prior.)The Evening Shift differs on how their day went before they come into work) most are quite well mannered. Blue Collar bar 100% & that's why I enjoy this bar.An Enjoyable place for a few with good company after work before going home responsibly. Patrons keep conversation to the minimum but enjoy a good chat from here to there.Linda & Mary the bartenders seems to be the only individuals truly qualified to remain in the: "Hospitality Industry" ... "Hospitable" seems to have been removed from the day shifts vocabulary.

This is one of those places that has been around since I was a kid... although, back then it was on John R, just north of 8 mile. It's on 9 mile nowadays. I remember it being darkly lit, good food, and they would make me Mickey Mouse pancakes ;) It's still darkly lit, and the food is still really good.. they have specials every day, many of which are Polish, and I can always find something great on the list. I don't know if I've ever opened the regular menu LOL.The prices are what really get me here. Large portions of food with soup or salad and most are under $9.00! Waitstaff is friendly and it's a nice local joint for me and I love it! Oh, try the chili...it's AWESOME!!!

The owner is always there which makes things great! Super nice place, food is always good and waitstaff is nice too! Def a cool little spot for mini burgers :))

The Shantie is one of my favorite spots. It's a little neighborhood place and they treat ya like a regular on your first visit. They always have great specials and sometimes they'll have something off menu as a special. I went in on a Saturday night and was told they had some great short ribs so I ordered them and they were great. My usual is the Italian Whitefish dinner... D-Lish! They also do a great polish plate and excellent City Chicken and the best part it's all for a very reasonable price. Not to mention $3.50 24oz beers.

I haven't been to this place in years and finally decided last Friday to get a Fish and Chips. Well...It was THE BEST!!!

We would pop in to the Shantie Food and Spirit every now and again for years. You always got pretty decent food at a good price. We were just in the other night and it was not like other visits. After we ordered some appetizers they brought out a plate with the butter portions and there was some Open and empty butter containers and some of the containers were stuck to butter at the bottom of the plate. It was gross enough where we chose to leave and won't be back.
