Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard

I've been dying to try any Rita's location and happy I finally got to go to one! Italian Ice + Custard just sounds like the dream and it was so tasty. I was super overwhelmed when I started looking at the menu because everything sounded so good. My mom and I saw a caramel macchiato custard milkshake on their Facebook page which is what prompted us to come in the first place. My mom ended up getting that and it was so good. Their large size is pretty big so she wasn't able to finish it in one sitting but it holds well in the fridge or freezer at home. They allow you to sample any Italian ice flavors. I ended up ordering the Gelati which is Italian ice and custard. I got the Strawberry Cheesecake Cream Ice + Chocolate Vanilla twist custard which they layer throughout the cup and it was delicious. Is tasted like a Neapolitan ice cream. They had interesting Italian ice flavors like green apple and blue raspberry. I hope to try more from Rita's in the future!

We come here almost everyday! We love the staff/management and always are welcomed by such happy employees! Everything is always so tasty, it's always clean inside, and the smell of Rita's is always so sweet and delicious! Whenever we want a cold treat we already know where we're going to go... which is usually 4-5 times a week!

Took a stroll for something sweet and chilled for a 85 degree day. A frozen drink! Super good and nice staff. Was told all items on the menu are made fresh so the option's constantly change.

Nice little gelato placeMy friend and I were itching to try some gelato and ended up here.The icecream was pretty average but was super expensive for anything more than the soft serve.The employees were very nice though! They offered samples and were open to any questions we needed to ask!There's not much room for sitting inside nor outside, so my friend and I got it to go.If you're looking for regular icecream, I would recommend somewhere else, but I think it's a decent place for gelato!

Rita, Rita, RITA! Girl...you done did it!I had a few minutes while waiting for an appointment and happen to notice Rita's and MAN was I pleased. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. I was informed that they make fresh gelato on the daily, and while I opted for a traditional waffle cone with mixed custard, the gelato looked amazing. I'll definitely be back, because my girl Rita know how to keep a chubby Italian man happy and satiated.

Another overdue and late, but finally a review here for Rita's.It was a hot day plus still a hot evening at 7pm on July 13 after shopping across the street at Lowe's. Why not cool off here for my 1st time so we decided to stop.Thanks to Yelp friend, Aleana W. For making many check-ins here and posting so many "Cool" photos to help others decide to stop in here and enjoy some Ice or custard! My husband had a regular vanilla custard cone.I had a custard with a s'mores gelato which was delicious and a smooth blended duo.Our 2 purchases totaled $9.00 with Nicole.Thanks to "HANNAH" for her welcome personality when walking in the door. Then she was happy to explain the whole story to us about Rita's Italian Ice, custard and offering me 3 samples to try to help with my cool important, refreshing decision. Soooo many Italian Ice Flavors, Cream Ice Flavors, along with Custard. They also have a free "Sugar-Free" flavors. Rita's can handle your "Cool Catering" birthday or Barbeque parties as well, but encourage you to place your order at least 7 days in advance. What a fun, cool time of ice happiness to enjoy at this popular neighborhood business.

I absolutely love how this place does ice cream in a different way than others. Pairing gelati with custard is genius. They alternate between flavors every day but I always go when I check there website and see that they have the lemon gelati because it is amazing. The staff is super nice and attentive as well.

I've tried a lot of Italian ice places in and out of Michigan, with this being somewhat local, had to give it a try. It's located in a plaza right on Hayes, just south of Hall Road. The shop is on the smaller side and there is no seating area (I'm not sure if this is due to covid mandates or if that is how it normally is). There are over 10 different Italian ice flavors that vary daily. There is vanilla, chocolate and mix custard. You can either get Italian ice, custard or gelati (which is a a layer of custard on the bottom, Italian ice and then topped with more custard). I ordered a raspberry lemonade ice with vanilla custard. I asked the worker if it would be tangy/sour because I prefer that over a sweet ice and she said yes it was. However, when I got it - it was more on the sweet side and barely sour. The custard was great though, very smooth and creamy - no complaints there.My friend ordered a Swedish Fish gelati with sprinkles. The Swedish fish ice tasted like strawberry. We've ordered Italian ice before and have gotten Swedish fish flavor other places that taste just like the candy, however this did not. They also up charged this one by $0.80 for sprinkles, which I thought was overpriced. Lastly, my friend ordered the sugar free tangerine gelati. The ice wasn't sour like a tangerine would be but mixed with the custard tasted like an orange creme popsicle. Their prices are on the higher side. For the kids gelati it was $2.89 plus $1.30 custard - which comes out to what a medium would have cost and it's a lot smaller. Overall, the custard was the best part. The service was good but don't think I would come back.

Oh My Goodness, first time got the strawberry banana custard...AWESOME!!So creamy!! I went back 2 days later to get that flavor went away! Looking forward to trying some Italian Ice!!

I have heard many good things about Rita's from friends that I have who are from the east coast. When I heard that Rita's came to MI, I was excited and went to try it out with a friend. I ended up getting just the italian ice (or "water ice" as it used to be called apparently) and it was great. I'm not sure I would like the mix with custard, but I can definitely understand why others would like it.They also have cookie sandwiches with GIANT oreo cookies which look pretty cool.If you're craving a cold treat, but want something other than ice cream, Rita's is pretty legit.
