With Polonia next door it's the battle of the pierogies! While Anthony Bourdain did indeed go to Polonia and sang its praises legend has it Polish Village Café was tapped first but with the narrow stairs leading to the cellar/basement level they were not able to get their filming equipment down there. To summarize my point of the dueling pierogies story my friends is this: Don't miss out on Polish Village Café! Try both places and you will get an accurate comparison of Polish cuisine. Similar yet different. I want to say the 4 of us ladies got phenomenal service from Alexis. She made great suggestions, was prompt, and was able to make a few modifications for my pickier friends. We started with the soup. Dill pickle for my friends and beet for me. This was some of the best beet soup I've ever had. My Polish babcia would make her beet soup and thicken it with sour cream. Other than my grandma I've never had a thickened and creamy beet soup until here. Dill pickle soup was also great with a tangy but not overpowering pickle taste. Wanting to sample a variety and also wanting leftovers I went with the pick 3 meat plate (city chicken, chicken livers, and fresh Polish sausage). Wow talk about a menagerie of food. The sausage alone was enough to feed 2-3 people. They put a beer gravy over the top which is something I've never had but it works. Chicken livers were deep-fried and slightly on the salty side but dipping them in the extra beer gravy proved to be a wise choice. City chicken was just as I remembered from before. Whatever breading they use somehow manages to stay in place but you still get the tender juicy flavor from the pork and veal that shines through. All four of us had enough food left over for lunch the next day. Prices are more than reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get. I'm excited to be living in the Detroit area again and will be able to satisfy my Polish food cravings whenever the urge hits!

This place is usually packed , people waiting on the stairwell to enter.I've been there several time with friends and family. All the servers were quick to get food orders and very nice.Absolutely recommend the Dill Pickle Soup. Now for the hard part, the main event... which is btw the stuffed cabbage.( also city chicken and meatballs)Unfortunately, for me, I don't eat pork. The stuffed cabbage and other meats are all pork. The rest of the meal consisted of canned vegetables, instant potatoes, rye bread and butter and kraut.I stopped at Sheetz on the way home. (That will be a later review)I still recommend for posterity

The restaurant is in the basement and looks like a nice casual place to get some food or watch a game at the bar. It is cash only just a heads up and they do have an ATM. We ordered the mixed pierogis, mushroom crepes which came with a dill pickle soup, and the beet soup. I personally enjoyed the pierogis (except the sweet cheese or I liked that the least out of the mix) and the mushroom crepe. I am not crazy about dill pickles or beets so I didn't enjoy the soups too much. But decent place to have a casual meal.

After touring the Motown Museum, our group went to the Polish Village Cafe for a "Family Style" lunch. HUGE plates of MANY Polish favorites were brought to our tables. There was PLENTY of food for 2nd helpings and LEFTOVERS that we took home. The wait staff was efficient and attentive. The ambiance was like being in grandma's house. My grandparents and parents made many of these items for our family dinners when I was growing up. The Polish cuisine here is AUTHENTIC and HOMEMADE. You simply cannot buy a can of this stuff from GFS or SYSCO. Bathroom was clean and odorless. I SHALL RETURN!

Great hidden jewel in the once Polish town of Hamtramck. Varied menu of your standard Polish plates. Some of the courses are with a twist like the Potato Pancakes with goulash on top. Pancakes were with a kick, they were spicy, and the plate would feed any man. We came on Sunday at noon and the place was humming with guests. Highly recommend coming in for some Polish food.

Great Polish food. Restaurant is in the basement of a former house. Cool atmosphere. Very similar to my Polish Grandmother's cooking! Service is good with a pretty quick turnaround. And prices are reasonable.

have been here four times and each was a great experience! decorations are super cute around the holidays, vibe is very cozy! I enjoy the beet soup, stuffed cabbage, and pierogies. staff is very friendly as well. downstairs can be a bit loud and tight, I prefer eating upstairs much more, for a more quiet and spacious experience. parking is not difficult if you park in the lot close to the restaurant. looking forward to my next trip here!

After a long day of work on Fat Tuesday, I knew where I wanted to fulfill my inner Polish soul. Olga was amazing despite the crowd and rush of order. The kielbasa was on spot, a crispy snap that brought back memories from my childhood. The lights were down and the red glow filled the entire place. The food. The beer. The horseradish i had to take home even though my food was all eaten. It was worth a 3 1/2 hour drive from home to experience "home cooking" and wonderful staff. Thank you.
