BEST crushed lentil soup imo. We have been going to Pita Cafe for years! Great chicken schwarma, tabbouli and soup. The only thing is that they don't have the warm pita breads (fine if you're trying to limit carbs tho!)They are always fast for when we order carry-out!

Pita Cafe was one of the first middle eastern restaurants in the Oak Park area when it opened decades ago. All these years later, and despite all the present competition in middle eastern eats, it's still one of the top places in all of metro Detroit. Shawarma, lentil soup, and cream chop (pictured) are all personal faves, especially with a side of garlic toum. As of covid, no table service.

Still solid after all these years. Great hummus and fresh baked bread in their hearth oven. Good shawarma and garlic dip. Toasty house fries. Decent prices. Solid place. Weird they are carry out only but dine in, but whatever. The food and prices are good in. Get the fresh baked bread, the chicken hummus dinner and some garlic on the side. Decent lentil soup too.

Stopped by here recently again after many years as we were driving through Detroit. I have to say things have probably gone down in quality a bit. The bread we paid for and got was not fresh, but there was a nicer guy behind the counter later that brought us some piping hot fresh bread later. I remember they used to just bring it to your table. Oh, and that's another thing. They didn't have any waiters and so... we ordered at the counter and had to eat there takeaway style. idk... it just didn't have that same experience this time around.

I love their hommous with lamb and fresh pita bread. It's the best in the area. I'd give it 5 stars but they aren't actually a restaurant as their dining area is closed, however, they will let you sit there and eat. Kinda janky if you ask me. We live a ways away, so takeout isn't really practical and not being able to dine in is a deal breaker. They used to have a real restaurant in Birmingham which we ate at all the time, unfortunately, they closed it.

They give you a lot of food for the price. It tastes wonderful! I highly recommend the grape leaves. The service is currently take out only. But they allow you to sit. They kindly brought out our apps first which was thoughtful. Then our entree. It was very hot and fresh! The women's bathroom looked like it needed to be cleaned badly. The lid on the far stall was so dirty and the walls and floor boards need a scrubbing.

Food is still very good, but they constantly miss items on your order, which is annoying if you go and pick up but at least you can check, but if you order from a delivery service you're just SOL. They don't seem to be bothered to give you what you pay for. Pretty disappointing to see a once great place turning into mediocre.

I used to come here periodically with work friends for lunch when I worked in the area. It was a great place to get inexpensive, yet delicious, chicken shawarma sandwiches. While they're still delicious, they're unfortunately no longer inexpensive: it used to be $3.99, but they upped to $6.99 last time I went, almost double the price! The chicken meat is flavorful and tender. It had a good proportion of chicken to pickles and lettuce. I asked for garlic sauce on side, which I appreciate them accommodating. I like that their garlic sauce isn't too strong tasting, like I've had at some other places. I also got a side of rice with slivered almonds: sadly, it was not as good and flavorful as it was in the past, but still pretty good. $5 is definitely too expensive for it, however. My friend ordered a side of hummus, which came in a little plastic sauce cup and they charged $2.99 for it! It was decent, but I've had better hummus elsewhere. I think prices aren't as reasonable as they used to be, but the food is still good overall. Their fresh baked bread is also delicious!

This place used to be amazing. We've been going for years-almost weekly. Unfortunately, it's just not the same. I think it changed ownership and now the food is flavorless and very expensive. Sadly won't be going back.
