Papa’s Shawarma

Cute little place right downtown Utica. Friendly family who owns it. They opened up Tuesday May 7th so we decided to try it. Delicious and priced right. I had the beef shwarma combo. Fries were crispy coated. Also had a side of hummus and garlic sauce. My husband had the Iraqi salad and added beef shwarma. Very good. I will be back to try other things like curry stew, kabobs and the mixed bowel with protein.

We love Papa Shawarmas. First time ever having Chicken Cream Chop and it was amazing. We have gotten their tray for 2, and their tray for 4. So much food!! Beef shawarma is my favorite. I wish they offered sautéed vegetables as an option (like ike's express), but that would be my only critique. Staff is so friendly and the place is spotless. Really great value for the price. Our new favorite place for carry out.

The Very Best Shawarma in the AreaFood: I ordered both beef and chicken shawarma by the pound because not everybody wants the side dishes. I also ordered a Tray for 2 because my family likes rice and the side dishes. Thanks to Papa's for the option to buy a la carte. Lots of people don't need the extra carbohydrates. The shawarma was FRESH, moist, and delicious. Lots of places around Detroit want to peddle off dry shawarma, but the whole point of shawarma is fresh, juicy meat. The tasty lentil soup had the correct spices, and not just mashed up lentils. Great job on the food! Hospitality: I was greeted immediately and served my carry out food. The woman taking my order even laughed at my jokes. That's how you know that they are nice.Service: The food was ready promptly at the agreed upon time, and the staff was nice about packing it all up for me. They didn't rush me or act like they didn't know how to smile.Housekeeping: The restaurant is new and very clean. I did not use the restrooms as it was only a carry out order today.Atmosphere: The downtown Utica atmosphere is fun. It's nice to walk up to a little restaurant for food instead of having to go through a big place and wait at the bar for carry out while the servers ignore you. Inside the restaurant was clean and quiet. It looked like a pleasant place to eat.Conclusion: This was some of the best shawarma that I've ever had in America. The owners did a great job, and my family will return for sure! Great food, low prices, and good service. Go to Papa's Shawarma... unless you like dry shawarma, bland food, and bad service.

I decided to try this restaurant for the first time. The restaurant looks fine, but it's a bit too dark for my taste--just a personal preference. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich to go--big mistake. The chicken was dry, greasy, and completely flavorless. To make it worse, we specifically asked for garlic sauce, but there was not any, making the sandwich even more disappointing.For a place that serves shawarma, you'd expect them to get the basics right, but this was just bad. On top of that, the girl on the phone taking the order was not pleasant at all uninterested.I don't recommend this restaurant at all. Definitely not ordering from here again.

Friendly, Nice, Gave me samples of food, while my order was being prepped :). Will definitely come here again when I'm in the area.

The food is fucking horrible literally a fucking 0/10 do not order from here unless you want the shittiest shwarama known to man i ordered a chicken shwarama with fries and garlic and chicken that was all not only do i not get any garlic sauce the fucking chicken tastes like lemons and butter what the actual fuck how do you make this abomination and have the balls to stay open

Had a shawarma with onion, pepper, and pickles and a side of humus. Great meal at a reasonable price

They dont use white meat chicken. The baklava is dry n old. Very disappointing as parking is awful too.
