Motor City Soul Food

So this is the time I have eaten here in over 10yrs. The food use to be really tasty when the older lady and her husband was running it, but, now I had the Mac and cheese you could taste the starch on the noodles because whoever, cooked it did not rinse the noodles off before add the fake powdered cheese on it!! The greens were not cooked long enough they were crunchy. Well I guess I will have to Stop wasting my hard earned money on terribly prepared food. And open up my own soul food restaurant and take these people Customer 's!!

Good food, nice variety of meats and sides. I've been back several times since my first visit. Never a bad meal. I definitely recommend going if you haven't already.

Orders are consistently delicious. They do tend to run out of items if you go close to closing. Today's order: veggie plate with okra, black eyed peas, greens, potato salad. Rib plate, candied yams, Mac and cheese, coleslaw. Fried chicken wing dinner, candied yams, Mac and cheese. All recommended. Have also gotten cornbread dressing and Lima beans. Portions of sides are HUGE. Easily enough for a couple of meals.

Every soul food joint has similar characteristics. They are usually inside a simple looking building, the food is presented cafeteria style, and there's often a fridge or cooler with some good looking premade desserts. The rotating glass door is also a nice little touch to give that extra feeling of authenticity. Before I came in I noticed the poor Yelp rating, so needles to say I was treading carefully. Overall I am quite pleased with my lunch, which consisted of a large and juicy turkey leg with a side of collard greens and dressing. They also topped my food with some brown gravy and a side of cornbread. My main issue is the price (came out to $18 something), but I will give them props for handing me a generous portion of food. I could not eat all this in one sitting, so they did satisfy my hunger with pretty tasty food. Some of the sides behind the glass were suspicious (like the beans looking very dry), but at least what I ate was enough for me to say I would come back for another meal. The staff were also very nice and hooked me up with extra hot sauce and cranberry jelly! Be prepared to get some extra napkins though, cause this food is messy

Motor City Soul Food has opened a new drive-thru location on Telegraph road in Redford. Definitely try the candied yams, mac and cheese, and banana pudding (if they have it, they don't always have the pudding).The baked chicken is okay, cornbread is too dry, but the ribs are good. Definitely a great place to check out.

My daughter brought me some Cornbread dressing. What happen to the Bell pepper, Celery and the Onions, and chicken livers?. If you need someone to make your dressing, I can make it. I just retired from my job. and I was the hot food cook at the Sveden House for years, Today I had to cook and add my own vegetables to be able to eat it. Please wash the Mac noodles, that starch is not good for anyone to eat, And the cheese don't hide it. For the price of the food you all can do a lot better.

When visiting the restaurant no one greets you no one says thank you after you get and pay for your food even though the food is basically good customer service sucks!

Food was so bland and so dry the Quality of the food makes me feel like I got scammed out of $27 for one dinner smothered chicken yams in macaroni and cheese.The service was nice and fast the line wasn't as long as it usually is.
