Motor-City Soul Food

I'm honestly surprised to see such a low yelp rating. I'm an avid cook myself but I go through phases when I don't feel like it, and motor city has improved over the years. They lowered the salt. I hate salty food, that was the old generation that liked things that way. Too much salt can ruin otherwise good food. Here, they don't overdo it. They let you actually taste the food. I like the dressing. Even though it looks plain, it is packed with sage and black pepper, and there's definitely more than meets the eye here. It's moderately moist, although I like mine on the dry side--add gravy--but you can't please everyone. If you're a dressing person, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. The chicken is always cooked right. The baked chicken I've had has been salty, but I have repeatedly ordered the BBQ wings which they use open pit, and those are good. The fried wings are good. I think I've had their fried pork chop before. I would say, please watch the salt on the collards. It's gotten pretty expensive, but that's not just them--that's everywhere. You get what you pay for, and they have to make money. The buffet is moderately impressive. They have just about every meat and side you'd expect. The turkey always looks good, though I've never tried it. There is baked fish as well.

Horrible food and rude 15 yr old server who said we are out of Green yet offered no alternatives, just want to let ya know you forgot the sides I did order and because of the mid food and bad customer service I won't be coming back and will tell all my friends and family to save their money and pallet

my father was kind enough to pick me up something to eat while I am sick. I sent him to Motor City Soul food to get me pork chops Mac and cheese and yams. well when I opened the food up to my surprise were 2 burnt pork chops!!!!!! It's Christmas Eve and I'm sick and I can't send him back because he already left my house!!!!! I am beyond annoyed and can't understand why anyone would put burnt pork chops in anyone's container that they are paying for! He spent money on some burnt pork chops and now I feel bad I even sent him there in the first place!!! the service usually terrible but the food usually isn't this bad! Terrible Christmas Eve!!!!

I've been here a few times. The food is good. I got the cabbage and meatloaf this time. The meatloaf was good, but the cabbage was salty.Service was ok.

One of my go to spots when I'm gone in Michigan. Love the turkey wings, fried chicken, dressing, greens, green beans and yams.

The takeout in Detroit food was Trash! The meatloaf was salty the gravy was too salty the spaghetti was salty and the basil I believe it was in it was too heavy and them liquid instant mashed potatoes were horrible. And they are on portion control and thank god because they are singlehandedly trying to give the people high blood pressure. I will eat a pb&j before I go there again. Oh and they don't answer their phone that's why I came here. BEWARE

The food is tasty but sometimes the people behind the glass. Are overworked and not friendly. Sunday is the best day to go for fresh and delicious entrée. I was in there today and and Lady wanted a piece of cake, and she was told that no one was available to cut the cake, and it was in the glass refrigerator . I felt so bad for her

I went up there today to ask for barbecue chicken, macaroni, cheese, and candy yams she wrote it down on the box and gave me collard greens and I didn't ask for that

Love this place for comfort food. Went there today, Tuesday, 4/9/24 and they're supposed to be open. THEY WERE NOT!! If I should decide to visit again, I'll definitely call ahead to avoid traveling for nothing!!

I used to love this restaurant. But yesterday I went in normal happy to get my food and I received the rudest server ever imaginable. I like to support my black owned businesses so I drove there, a 45 minute drive only for the older lady with the dread locks to be rude,disrespectful and mess up my order. Once the lady at the register noticed that I was missing some items, she blamed me and continued to make smart remarks and rolling her eyes. "what she want a third macaroni". When she never packed the first two. I'm not a nasty person nor like to disrespect an elder but maybe she shouldn't interact with customers. I don't want put the restaurant down, because I know she probably employed only due to be related to the owners. I believe in hiring family, but everyone is not appropriate for customer service.
