Very casual spot but, boy the food is good and fresh! We have been here before but it's been awhile- usually before going to the nearby Redford theater. They do a good take out business apparently cause it was busy with folks in and out but we were the only diners.I always like to get a whole fish whenever I see it on the menu, and I was glad to see it is still on the menu, which seems more limited than I remember. My parents got chicken Schwarma wrap which comes with fries and we got additional side of fries and plantains - very yummy. No ketchup though haha! The fish was flavorful with spiced rice and pickled veggies and I couldn't even finish it all! Very no frills spot but we always recommend it for good unique and good meal! Street parking only. No bathrooms that I could see.

I ordered the red snapper. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! It was EXCELLENT !!!! Sooo good omg!! I ate half of it in the car. I live in Sterling Heights so I'm not near to it. But I'll be coming back again to try the goat meat and re order the snapper! The best to get west African food! Staff is friendly as well! Shop is clean.

I'm obsessed with this food, from the Red snapper to the empanadas. If. I had a complaint it would be that I need more sauce with my yassa. Nothing more. Tres Bein!! Service is mid. Some are treated FAR BETTER THAN OTHERS. The ambiance is just ok. But, the food is impeccable.

Mostly a takeout business that does have a few tables but it's not really a est-in place. They're known for their snapper but we liked their chicken too

Maty's is a hidden gem. The half chicken yassa and the deebee with jollof rice are my favorites, and I love the juice as well. The service is always super nice, and the portions and prices are really good. The flavor is top tier and I'll always enjoy coming here. The only downside is if you come later during dinner, they may be out of a lot of menu items. However, everything I've tried on the menu has been great, so that's not really an issue because I get to try something new that's also good.

First time ordering from Maty's. Call in order. They needed 20 minutes to get my order made. Took me fifteen minutes to get there. I ordered the grilled snapper with jolof rice. Excited always to try new west African restaurants. Only to go in and they not have my order. But tried to sell me someone else's order of chicken. I kindly declined as I wanted my order. He explained my order would be another 20 minutes. I kindly walked out, but definitely with no food. The point is if you order make sure to confirm they will have your food if you're driving over 15 minutes.

Dine in available. Lunchroom style booths with 3 (2) seater tables next to each other along 1 wall. Wallpaper covering the tables. We were shown a serving of the lunch special & my Mom changed from the lamb skewers to that, but I maintained my original order.Took a noticeable amount of time for the food to be cooked BUT it was brought out on platters that left more than enough to be taken home. Food is DELICIOUS

This place is like a hole-in-the-wall spot with orange plastic booth benches. Locals and regulars getting comfortable give it a unique vibe compared to any place I've ever been. I got my food relatively fast--under 10 minutes. The lamb is gamey, so if you can't handle that, it's not the dish for you. Strong flavors of black pepper and a hint of garlic. There were three types of onions: yellow mustard onions, pickled caramelized onions, and grilled sweet onions. The jollof rice reminds me almost of Asian fried rice with a smoky note and possibly a tomato flavor.Definitely coming back here when in Detroit.
