Masa Mexican Street Food

I decided I wanted Mexican food before shopping, and I was set to go to the large place across from the mall in Farmington, but I drove through the mall just to see what had changed. Lo and behold, I saw this little restaurant and decided to try it instead. I gather from the other reviews that it has been here a while, but I never noticed it before. Of course, I don't usually enter from the Farmington Rd. side of the mallIt is kind of like fast food, in that you order at the counter & pick it up. But, it's made fresh to order. What I have learned about Mexican "street food" is that the portions are very small. I just got a hard taco & a soft one. I chose the carne asada, not realizing that there was an upcharge. But, the meat was really good and it was actually enough to satisfy me. The people were friendly as well, and I liked that they had cups out so that I could have ice water with my meal. Next time, I will order something a little heartier, but this was fine.

This place has gone downhill. I ordered a fajita bowl and it was so oily and greasy that I tossed it out. I remember when I used to come here when it was new (and the ceviche at the time was sooo good/before they added pineapple and made the whole thing so bitter) and the food tasted fresh! Now its just overcooked, soggy and disappointing. No thank you. Next. Taqueria Victoria is so much better by A + W on Grand River. This place needs to get it's act up or man people will start venturing elsewhere. We don't want to be an afterthought. We spend money to eat out and have a peace of mind and one thing checked off our list. When I came here, I ate a small portion of my order and just left with regret.

After a series of annoyances and giving this place chance after chance, I'm done. They served me this disgusting salsa. Wasnt worth going back up there for another one, so I'm just done

The food is decent, but went in today and the woman who was working the counter had the worse customer service I've ever experienced. If I ever go back it will be solely for the food.

First time guest here! Easy parking in the strip mall near the downtown Farmington pavilion. It appears they have outdoor seating which would be really nice in the summer. You order at the counter and they call off your name when your food is ready.Ambiance/cleanliness (4 stars)- I love the colorful artwork on the walls. The interior is simple, casual, and modern. Great for a quick lunch or meal with kids but probably not a date night kind of place. I'm guessing they do the majority of their business at lunch plus takeout. Food Quality (4 stars)- A great taco is simple but simple isn't always easy to find. I tried their steak, pork, chicken, and brisket tacos and all tasted about how I would expect for street tacos. Usually carne asada is my favorite type of taco, but their pork taco was my favorite and would be my recommendation. It had a little heat but wasn't what most people would consider too spicy. Their tortilla chips were nice and crunchy however, their salsa was rather bland in my opinion. I would compare it to Chi-Chi's salsa out of a jar. The little side salsa cups that are included with the tacos looked like a tomatillo green chili salsa. I'm not 100% sure what the green salsa was but it was a disappointment. It looked good but was tasteless/watery. They did have various national brand hot sauce bottles for guests to use.Value (3.5 stars)- I came on Taco Tuesday ($2/taco). They advertised other specials for other days as well. The tacos are small and I think most people would want at least 3 or 4 of them for a meal. So for $6-$8, I think that is a fair value. However, at their normal price of $2.95 per taco, that would be ~$9-$12. Add any side and/or drink and the value starts to disappear rather quickly. Service/ friendliness (3.5 stars)- the order taker was professional. Because it is not full service, I didn't really interact with the staff much more than that.Overall (3 stars)- I would come back here when I'm in the area and get the pork taco and maybe try their ceviche or street corn. I love horchata, so I need to give that a try, too. Props for making a small menu count with appealing options. If location isn't as big of a factor, give Maiz in Ypsilanti a try. This place has great street tacos just like I used to get in L.A. They have beer and margaritas, but are mostly a dining place. They also have different specials throughout the week, including Taco Tuesday.

I have never had a bad experience here. This is a little place kinda tucked back in the plaza at downtown Farmington. They are a perfect place to go when you don't feel like waiting forever at a restaurant. Walk in, place your order, and they make the magic. They have a variety of protein to try on your tacos, and they are all marinated/seasoned perfectly. You can tell the cooks they hired know what authentic is. If you don't like traditional cilantro and onions, you can sub the good old lettuce and cheese toppings. (Hey, I'm one of those cilantro haters- what can ya do?) Along with tacos they have some other options like quesadillas, bowls, burritos, tortas, etc. They even have dessert and a liquor license. The staff is friendly and you can watch them make your food fresh. The interior is adorable and they are a such a treat to hit when I'm craving Mexican. Also, can not beat the prices!

Excellent tacos and cold beer. Everything there is homemade from scratch! Friendly service, very clean environment and lets not forget those cheapo prices but quality food. We tried the beef tacos, rice, and a order of corn chips and salsas. We will be back!

3.5/5 so I'll round up to 4. Masa has been on my list to try for a while now, and my book club sometimes meets in Farmington due to the nice pavilion, so I got takeout today to bring to book club. A friend said that her favorite tacos there are the pork and the chicken tacos, I ended up getting the chicken tacos and the carne asada. Tacos are $2.75 each which is a reasonable price, too. Both tacos were very good although I think I liked the chicken a little bit better than the steak one, surprisingly. I also ordered horchata ($3) but unfortunately it was just okay, it tasted like it was from a mix. They do have them pre-portioned into cups too.I saw they do $2 tacos for Taco Tuesdays which is a good deal. The place itself was large and very clean, another time I might stop by and eat indoors. They also have a few tables outdoors or you could bring your takeout to the pavilion area like I did, there's even a public bathroom over there which is a plus.Overall, I would try Masa again but it's not in my area, so I would probably not make a special trip for it - if I was in the area and wanting tacos I'd stop by though.

Long story short: Do not use their website's ordering system. They ran out of mushrooms so I had to change one taco once I got there which was fine but the girl at the register was a bit short with me. I had already gone to my friend's house before I realized that I was missing a taco and the other taco was just a shell with pickled onions... I called and they said that is exactly what came up on the ticket on their end. I double checked my order confirmation to make sure there wasn't an error on my end and there was no issue on my side. Girl on the phone who I talked to was pretty rude again and acted annoyed when I know I never spoke to her in a way that warranted that reaction. She offered the options that I could come back and have them remake it before they closed or I could contact whatever website I used to order from for a refund. When I told her I ordered through their own website and not a 3rd party she didn't seem to really have an answer for me. Getting a refund through the website didn't really seem viable since it's the restaurant's own website yet the staff are not able to give refunds so I drove back. I had already drove 30 minutes to my friend's house so it was another hour round trip to go back and get my food again. Guy who remade my tacos was nice but with the inconvenience and attitude from other employee I don't think I'll be back. The food is pretty good like 3.5 stars but definitely not worth the possibility of having to deal with that situation again. Hopefully they fix the website or take it down so other people won't have the same thing happen to them.
