I love Marshall's Bar! I've been here a few times and of course it was on our list of Dive Bars to tour. Walking in the door, you are transported in time. I love the decor and especially the back yard area. The bar runs the length of the place with a few areas for seating and an area to play pool. They also have a few TVs to watch sporting events. We decided to grab a few beers, head outside to the backyard area which is located by a canal leading out to the Detroit River. There is a fire pit and few picnic tables spaced out. The bartenders are awesome and the patrons are great too. We were getting a little hungry by this point so we grabbed a few Slim Jim's to ease our hunger pangs! If you haven't been to Marshall's what are you waiting on? As for us, on the the next one.....

We literally stumbled upon Marshall's when we were at Jazzin on Jefferson last summer (end of June). Fo.ur stars if your looking for a corner watering holeIt's a very welcoming neighborhood bar, filled with what appeared to be mostly regulars, but we felt like one of the family quickly. A grill out back and jello shots in the cooler, we could not have been happier, not to mention, fun staff and cheap drinks. loved it and hope to go back - and as an added bonus - it"s really close to the Tap Room.

Upon arriving in Detroit after some rough times, Marshall's proved to be a great neighborhood "dive bar" where I felt welcomed by most, met a variety of people, and had many enjoyable/interesting conversations on numerous topics. It has a rich history that stretches back to Prohibition, with close proximity to a canal whose history those knowledgeable enough will share. Seasonal parties with "free food" abound if one visits during particular times (Halloween, New Year's Eve, St Patrick's Day, and the like), and there's a great "al fresco" area with a fire pit for outdoor enjoyment when the weather's just right. Although most of the bartenders are also great, one of them cultivated a dislike of me that turned toxic on a ridiculous pretense a few months ago. This soured my enjoyment of the place, and multiple incidents with him made me decide to stay away since roughly mid-May. Other patrons (and even mostly past bartenders) have similar stories about this same person as well, some of which even involved physical assault. His ego, one-sided "sarcasm" and "irony," temper, etc., have made him teeter on becoming a liability for Marshall's. So if you do go for the reasons I mention in the previous paragraph, I pray you don't have to deal with him, as Marshall's appears to be keeping him on for reasons that remain unknown. You'll know him if you run into him.

One of Detroit's hidden gems. A secluded dive on Fox Creek where you can enjoy your drinks out back by the fire and watch people fish. You can even order food and have it delivered if you're hungry, and there is a Subway right across the street that is open until 3AM.Everyone is very friendly an come from all walks of life and its never boring. Its been a favorite spot amongst my friends and I for several years. The bartenders are great people and the vibe is very relaxed, and its SAFE; much of the regulars are ex-military or blackbelts so the riffraff is not tolerated. Come one, come all.

Marshall's is very warm and welcoming. Kind of what the Cheer's bar would look and feel like in a blue collar area. I wouldn't suggest ordering anything fancier than a rum and coke, and I wouldn't go if your allergic to smokebut if your looking for a beer some people to knowMarshall's is comfortable and a fine place to go.

Only 1 visit but it was a good one. As others said, this is a locals bar. Everyone knew everyone and now they know us. Talked to a guy whose father used to own the place, now his relatives do, so got a lot of history on the place. It's been around for years, and one story he told us was about tunnels underneath that were used during prohibition. It has the classic feel of a beat up dive bar because that's what it is. Rough wood bar, written on ceiling tiles, graffiti on the bathroom walls. The drinks were cheap and served in some cool old glasses. The barmaid was friendly and working hard. The lighting added an extra element, no overhead lights here, just some lamps placed around behind the bar. Plus a pool table and a patio out back for those that just have to smoke. Looking forward to coming back in the summer and checking out the canal. We were told we might be able to get a boat down there and then we can pull up and hop out for a drink. We're gonna try.

Inconsiderate to the neighborhood with loud music. If you are looking for a good lawsuit, just go out on their back deck. I can't believe this passes building inspection considering the uneven decking and that the overhang is all rickety and could fall.

This place is full of sketchy people, and their patio area is a complete mess. It's so rundown that I'm surprised they haven't been cited for violations. Moreover, there is a possum and rat infestation in the so-called patio area at the back of the building. If you decide to visit, it's better to go with a group. Additionally, if you're Black and not interested in catering to white people, you might not feel comfortable here unless you have your own party. The manager appears to be a racial bigot; I have witnessed him making ethnically and racially insensitive comments on a couple of occasions. However, if you enjoy socializing with barflies and don't mind the presence of HPV, drugs, and cheap drinks, then this might be the place for you. I honestly wouldn't recommend it. It's a dive bar in terrible condition.
