Mama Mia

After discussion with the restaurant directly today I would like to take time to amend my previous review of the establishment to be more precise Yes, the meal was sub par, specifically very heavily salted and acidic. That said, the portions are extremely generous. Quantity over substance. Having visiting many regions in Italy and being of direct Italian descent, I would encourage a refresh of the items. Soggy calamari with oil dripping peppers and onions is nowhere near current with today's form of soul food. I appreciate the conversation had with ownership and respect them for reaching out. Maybe I was too blunt and insensitive. Being without many ingredients following power outages weeks back probably didn't help their case. And..Maybe this just happened to be a rare occasion, or maybe the reviews of greatness are biased to what benchmarks are for fresh quality products. Hopefully this is a nicer version and absolutely please decide for yourselves, as I may very well be a spoiled food snob.Cheers

Service is outstanding! This restaurant just keeps getting better! The food is outstanding, perfect for groups and date night!

The food was excellent. I had chicken parmigiana. Two large chicken patties cooked perfectly. Angel hair pasta and sauce was delicious. My husband had Dante's inferno. The spice was perfect and the portions were enormous. Our friends had lasagna and shrimp with garlic and oil. They said theirs was delicious as well. Freshly baked breadsticks were yummy as well. The service was exceptional. It was pretty empty in the restaurant, not sure why because the food is amazing. Very reasonable prices as well. Definitely would come back when in the area.

While the food is as great as many of us have heard and the portions are huge, it was the service that took it down to 3 stars. Yes, I was there with a larger group, but it was a Wednesday early in the evening and the group had reservations for weeks so they should have planned for us. I don't know if it was the kitchen or the wait staff being spread too thin, but my table had to wait for an hour for our food with the table next to ours got food in 30 minutes and another table didn't get their food until a while after. I along with others had to just taste our food and then put it in to a take home container.My choice linguine and marinara sauce and mushrooms was delicious there and warmed up at home. I ordered extra sauce and boy did it have it. The room they used was nice but dated. While the food is good, I will not use them for one of my Meetup group dinners because of the service.

Our second visit was just as fulfilling as the first. Tonight there was live music which added to the ambiance and the food was outstanding.

I grew up in Redford and now live in Arizona. I have not been here in 50 years. My hats off to the family who still run this restaurant. I came back to Detroit for a visit and decided I wanted to be nostalgic and pay Mama Mia's a visit. I had no expectations. We ordered a pizza and pasta dish. Both were cooked perfectly and were absolutely delicious. Our servers name was Taylor and she helped make for a great experience. She was funny, witty and very attentive. Any restaurant that has survived for over 65 years with the same family must be doing something right. The food was great, value oriented and worth a dine in. Thanks Taylor and thanks Mama Mia's.

If you haven't been here before, please know the portion sizes are pretty large - we ended up not eating everything! We had the Cobb salad, the meatballs and a pasta dish we had to take to go b/c we were crunched for time. Everything was great and Tanya did her best juggling us and her other tables during the busy dinner crowd!

This restaurant is really great. It a great option for fresh, real Italian food locally. The staff was exceptionally friendly and we were sat and served promptly. This is a great place for family or if you want to carry out. The prices are decent, expect to spend around $20/person. They offer rotating soups of the day, and if you're not interested in pasta, they have chicken, salads, pizzas, and more to pick from!

The food is excellent very flavorful.If you're in the area and want some awesome food with great service, stop by and give them a try.The only negative would be that they need to update the interior. The booth seat I sat in had a broken spring. But I barely noticed because of the great food!!

Had an amazing dinner with some friends today. The service was beyond 10 very professional and never had to ask for anything it was all prepared perfectly. They was more than en for that I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We will definitely be back!!!
