Went here for our anniversary and boy did the husband and I had a good experience at this resturant. From the food to the service, everything for us was on point. Our waitress was so nice and came to check on us often which is what I like and for the food, it was so unique but very enjoyable for our taste buds. The ambiance itself was very romantic. There is plenty of parking also. I cannot want to come back

Mabel Gray stole my joy bellWe went to Mabel Gray for our anniversary dinner. We were excited visiting Detroits restaurant of the year 2025. My wife is vegetarian and I don't eat pork and we don't do shellfish which truncates the restaurants options for service (which we understand). Most restaurants will offer viable options for an entree. There are no such options at this restaurant. We ordered every non entree vegetarian item on the menu. Started with a beet and apple carpaccio with potential as a build up but unfortunately was a premonition of promise not delivered. The next 3 servings efforts that had run amok . I understand that food can be art but sometimes the artist needs to put down the brush and let the piece be delightful in its simplicity. I think Freya (2024 restaurant of the year) does this well. The Sea Bream which I ordered came to the table with an inordinate amount of tomato sauce which is by any measure a cry of distress for those who love a well prepared piece of fish. The flesh though was cooked to perfection but tasteless. I doctored it up with butter and salt and at that time it was pretty goodThe bread and butter were very nice and my wife did enjoy her margarita. I asked for an orange juice but was told that they didn't have any. I asked our server to surprise me with a mocktail which was nice but I swear the base had a splash of orange juice (I may be incorrect, it was very hard to hear her description over the loud music in the bar side of the restaurant). Our waiter could best be described as antiseptic. They essentially got the job done well but there was no connection from anyone in the whole place. This is the first time in 21 years of eating out on our anniversary that this has not been acknowledged. The restaurant has a very noisy side and a less noisy side. At my age I'm probably not "cool" enough for the vibe (trust me my 17 year old daughter lets me know this on a regular basis). This place is in Hazel Park and the clientele that populated the establishment definitely had an anti DEI vibe going. This is not an establishment for traditional romance at all. I would not recommend it for anniversaries but if I was white young to mid aged couple looking for a place for a first date or any date. This may be your spot for a very structured tasting menu. This restaurant has its place ( though not in my mouth) and some may really enjoy it. Good luck and Bon Appetite to themLast thoughts Please gentlemen, if your wife, girlfriend , partner takes the time to dress up please have the courtesy to reciprocate, and no there is no thing as a white soled dress shoe. I just had my fourth visit to Mabel Gray, and it continues to blow me away. As always, we opted for the tasting menu with drink pairings, and yet again, Chef James exceeded all expectations. We're always a bit nervous to return, wondering if it can live up to the last visit--but it absolutely does, every single time. The creativity in the dishes, the perfect wine pairings, and the top-notch service leave absolutely nothing to be desired. Mabel Gray firmly remains in my top 3 favorite restaurants in the Detroit area. This time, we were seated in the new wine cave, and our party really enjoyed it. The vibe was intimate and had an old castle feel, making it quieter and cozier than the main dining area. It added a special touch to an already incredible experience. Highly, highly recommend!Check out @hangry_detroiter for more

Tasting menu was fantastic. The spicy shrimp bisque (third course) was the standout but the tiramisu brownie at the end wasn't far behind. Great beverage pairings and excellent service. Friendly ambience, useful descriptions by our server Kyle of each course. Excellent all around.

Had an amazing experience at Mabel Gray! We were celebrating a birthday, and the staff was extremely helpful, accommodating and friendly. Each staff member was so well informed with the menu (I think a different individual brought a different dish out every time, all super friendly and explained what dish we were being served) and they had great recommendations for how many dishes we should order based on our group size and what drinks paired great or were menu favorites. The environment was lively but intimate (we sat on the kitchen/bar side, I do know they have an additional larger dining area now) but it was great being so close to all the magic. As a group of four with healthy appetites, we ordered six different dishes: Apple carpaccio, Szechuan Napa cabbage, crispy fried Spanish octopus, island creek oysters, pasta and the whole fish. I could write an entire other post about the food, but really all you need to know is HOW DARE THEY CREATE SUCH DELICIOUS DISHES. Can't wait to be back, especially to try the burger. Our drinks were the pink margarita and I enjoyed a nice glass of red with the main courses. Such an amazing experience 100/10 recommend booking a month in advance.

The atmosphere and service were great! The servers are very knowledgeable and ready to help as soon as you need them. There is very little waiting for service. The restaurant has very nice decore and makes you feel welcomed. The mismatched plates and cups feel nice and whimsical. The oysters were a huge hit, delicious, especially with the toppings that were added. The caprese had some of the best mozzarella I've had and was such a great way to start the meal. It was so fresh and dressed so well. Absolutely loved this. The lamb ribs were amazing. The sauces they were served with complimented them so well, and they were cooked to perfection. The clams were very nice as well, delicious, but the beans felt slightly out of place. The halibut was nice, but it felt like it was lacking flavor, almost like a second thought on the menu, but still good. I am planning a trip back to see what's up next on the rotating menu, i love that the menu is based on local and fresh ingredients, and I recommend checking this place out!

The experience of dining with Mabel Gray was an unforgettable end-cap to 2024. The inside of the restaurant was warm and inviting, clean and creatively decorated. Every aspect of the dinner was carefully planned and executed to perfection. From the hand written menus to the individual pieces of vintage tableware for each dish, I was endlessly entertained by the care and thoughtfulness displayed. My husband and I were sat at the bar for a tasting menu and beverage pairing, and watching the staff buzz around so calmly and professionally was wonderful. Every server and bartender was knowledgeable about the food and the drinks they were serving, and always ensured our experience was seamless and enjoyable. With an ever-changing menu, each tasting experience is inspired and fresh. The night's selection of dishes for us included two types of oysters, one of which was pleasantly briny and sweet, while the other was baked. I was impressed by the amount of seafood and variety of ingredients. We also received a linguini and clam sauce dish and hamachi with grapefruit that were both delicious. The lamb main with mushroom crudo was stunning, cooked perfectly. The amount of food and drink for the price is excellent, and I can't wait to come back and experience more of chef Rigato and his team's creations. If you have an out of town guest you want to impress with Detroit's best and brightest, don't hesitate to bring them here if you want to pull out all the stops.

Outstanding service. Every. Single. Visit. This team is a well oiled machine and runs perfectly. Parking is in the back and yes there is usually room for all diners. Make a reservation. The dinning area used to be a little more intimate and small, but with the firmer patio turned into the wine cave there is so much space. Sat in the wine cave for the first time this week and love the vibe. The temperature is perfect (not blowing air or too stuffy). As mentioned, service is top notch. Give your reservation name at the front and you'll promptly be seated. My favorite servers have been Rachel and Max, but you will nearly meet the whole team as they all pitch in when delivering food and drinks to your table. The drinks are excellent. Go off menu and Max will riff on any classic. Order a local wine or beer instead. Mocktails and kombucha from Urban Rest offered too. Either way, you won't be sorry. The food is lovingly crafted and creative. I enjoy coming here for vegan months when they offer a tasting menu. They always have omnivore dishes too. You won't leave hungry. Portions are large and satisfying. The depth of the ingredients and flavors is so well done in every dish. I love the surprise menu selections and appreciate the chefs using seasonal and local ingredients where possible. I'll be back again this month because they change the tasting menu. One grateful customer.

Alrighty - sorry, unpopular opinion coming in buuuut this burger week menu was just okay...Starting with the service, our waiter was excellent and pleasant. Everything arrived quickly and he was very attentive so that was great! I enjoyed the rustic and eclectic decor and vibes, but I was not a fan of how loud it was. If they had just turned down the volume a few notches it would have been perfect. We started off with drinks and shared the caesar salad. My margarita was okay but I felt it lacked flavor. Margarita light is what I'd call it. I don't recall the drink my brother ordered but he did enjoy it. The salad was very fresh and I liked the dressing, but again, for a caesar it was a bit light in flavor. I would have loved some anchovies considering this was so pricey. Moving onto dinner, we both ordered the double cheeseburger with wagyu beef and shared the fries with remoulade sauce and caviar. I will say that the burger was definitely a melt-in-your-mouth experience but I found it a bit odd to include iceberg lettuce. I also could not see any caramelized onions that were supposed to come with it. Would I prefer this burger over an In-N-Out double double? Nope lolThe fries were tasty but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. Caviar on the fries? Meh it was fine but nothing spectacular. Finally we wrapped up the night with the chocolate cake that was served with a coconut caramel sauce and a side of guernsey whipped cream. The caramel was not it - but for someone who is not a fan of chocolate cake, it was quite nice. The cream? Eh...Overall this was a nice meal but soooooooo not worth the price. Perhaps I'm spoiled having eaten at phenomenal restaurants in SoCal for over a decade but this was so far from being comparable. I would like to return in the future and try out their tasting menu though and see how it shapes up!
