Sad to say, but I have to dig deep down to find something good to say about this place. I wanted it to be my soul food spot, but it just did not impress me at all. I don't know if it is because I came before closing but it shouldn't matter. And FYI they won't take carry outs over the phone if it's an hour before closing....So anyways...the fried chicken was giving BLAND, never have I ever had such plain and unflavorful chicken, the greens were lazy greens to me..unchopped, no love put in them, but I will say that's the only thing my husband did like. The red beans and rice was straight TRASH. The smell alone made me want to throw up. The Mac was decent and the yams was my only favorite thing, but that's not enough to keep me coming back. And to pay $1 extra for cornbread that they're giving, that's crazy work, that's the least they can do is give some complimentary cornbread for their expensive meals. The catfish dinner and fried chicken dinner with cornbread and 3 extra sides was over $50...

A solid four and a half stars for our order. The seasoning is just right across the ox tail, fried catfish, and turkey chops. Since I like the cabbage, it is only a half star for the greens not being ready. Each one of these meals is taste just right. At one time, it was hit or miss with saltiness. But, that has been taken care of being a better balance. While I was waiting on the order, a steady flow of people came in. I was surprised by the number of people ordering catfish, oxtail, or turkey chops along with other options. The order was reviewed prior to handing to me, and the missed cabbage was put in a side container. Excellent review at the pass. Perfectly priced and now open on Sundays, also. Yes!

I live less than a mile from this location in Warren and was excited to see a "soul food" restaurant close by. This is my second review because I am once again disappointed. I went this past weekend and order a baked chicken dinner with dressing and black eye peas. The chicken was delicious. Neither the black eye peas nor the dressing were fully cooked. The peas were still crunchy and the dressing was still a bit gritty. I tried calling them after I got home and no one answered....so I threw out my sides and considering they charge an extra .50 for a teaspoon of cranberry sauce, this was an expensive waste.I have given up trying to taste/order their meat loaf. I have been there at least 10 times and I am told by everyone and even the man who I thought to be the owner at one point said they would get meatloaf at this location. Why have it on the menu and never offer this as an option?

Some of the food textures seemed reheated in a microwave.Only the fried items tasted fresh.Not interested in a 2nd visit.

Great food and generous amounts of food also. Clean place with great customer service.

I don't review restaurants off of one experience because I do believe anyone and anything can have an off day. However, after repeatedly visiting this restaurant I have come to the conclusion that the attitude of the individual regularly working the cash register is simply HORRIBLE. I've had a few experiences with her now from the first time I went in and stood at the register scrolling through her phone and she didn't say anything....not could I help you, not welcome, she said NOTHING and didn't even look up. Then I ordered a beverage and asked her how to get it once I received my food order and she agitatedly pointed to a refrigerator behind her. Like it was obvious that you should step behind the counter and open up a commercial looking refrigerator as a guest at the restaurant to get your drink. SMHA few other times I've gone to the restaurant and asked her if they had different items and she pointed to the stagnant menu that doesn't appear to be updated daily....then when I ask for something that is on the menu she seemed agitated that I asked for it and told me they didn't have it.....simply confusing. They didn't notate on the menu what they didn't have anymore so how was one to know....::On my last and final experience I pulled up in the extremely small parking lot and the storefront door was propped open and I saw the open sign still on and it was 7:48 pm. I walked to the door and literally as I was stepping through the door, the cashier grabs the door and pulls it closed and says we are closed. I asked her what time did they close and she aggressively said 8 pm. The restaurant was empty and as I checked the time when I got back in my car it was 7:51 pm.If this wasn't the only soul food restaurant close to me I would have given up a long time ago. But the market is ripe for someone to come in and change the game by providing a good service experience along with good food.

I've been waiting to try the food here and everything was fresh and delicious... I got catfish greens, macaroni and cheese and yams and cornbread and baby it was amazing

The food and services are always GREAT every time I go and I visit at least 3 to 4x a month.

Co worker told me about Lapes in Warren about 4yrs ago, since then it's one of my daughter's, mine and my 2 g'sons, ages 7 and 22, ​favorite places to grab food from, no inside dining.The food is amazing, I unfortunately am stuck on the rib tips, greens and yams so that's all I've had so far, soooo soooo good, the kids have enjoyed everything they've ordered, Lapes never disappoints.Great portions too so it's worth the money.Thank you Lapes for yummy food!!!!
