Overall the food was pretty bad. My family went there and the food we ate made us pretty sick. My Mom was hit the hardest as she still has stomach pain from eating the bland salsa and the disgusting steak. My burrito had way to much salt even though 99.99% of the times we go there it's usually bland and doesn't have that much flavor.

Great food, good prices... do not let the neighborhood scare you. You'll have to park and walk ... it's worth it! There's even a small market attached where you can find central and South American essentials & treats. Personally, I enjoy a guava soda to go with enchiladas... but they have everything, even the candies for the kids. I recommend the enchiladas lunch special -- best $5 you'll spend. It fed me for 2 lunches!

I have gotten lunch at La Rosita weekly for a few years now. 99% of the time I get the enchiladas lunch special. It's freaking delicious. And, for $4.75 you cannot beat this deal anywhere!! Half the time, I bring home some left-overs. (The key is to fill up on chips...)You get a basket of tortilla chips when you sit down, with three kinds of salsa. The enchiladas are consistently delicious. The servers who know me just say, "The regular?" and I say yes because if it ain't broke, why fix it?I have also had the Pollo Americano (Mexicano?) with the jalapeno peppers. This is also a tasty dish. I took my son here several times and La Rosita became a go-to destination for him too.The interior is not fancy, but I have always found it inviting and relaxing. The staff are always friendly, if sometimes you have to call a server over for a water refill (I drink a lot of water).By the way, half the interior of the building is a grocery store, where you can buy some south-of-the-border food and candies.La Rosita isn't fancy "haute cuisine", but I give it five stars anyway because I just love the food, the people, and the prices are very hard to beat. Often when you go in La Rosita, you'll see a table covered with peppers that are being deseeded, or some cactus being cut up. That gives you an idea that this is a down-home place. I love it.

I really thought this place had promise when I first heard of it. It's a bit off the beaten path, open quite late, and the combination of restaurant and market seemed a good idea. The market turns out to be a small cooler or two and a few short shelves tucked into a back corner of the place-- not much, but better than nothing in a pinch I suppose. The dining room is quite spacious, with booths lining two walls and tables elsewhere-- except for right under the multi-TV kiosk suspended from the center of the ceiling. The space is large enough, though, that I thought it would make a good party room if they'd just turn off the annoying TV and push some tables to one side. The problem here is the food-- actually the food and the smoke, though the latter will be resolved by law soon enough. La Rosita is the source of the scariest-looking and weirdest-tasting ceviche tostada I have ever encountered. Probably I'm spoiled by the Acapulco truck and LaTerraza's shrimp-rich renditions. The La Rosita version was silver-and-black striped, presumably from the skin of whichever unfortunate fish was sacrificed to make it. Needless to say, a high proportion of fish skin does something very bizarre and unappetizing to the texture of ceviche. The pollo taco I also ordered wasn't much better, with the chicken covered in some unidentifiable whitish substance. At least the onion and cilantro were present and accounted for.Unfortuantely there don't seem to be many trash barrels on the street right around there.

Excellent horchata here, good food with extensive menu, small general store tooI usually get the tacos here which are pretty good (also it's maybe the only place that serves fairly hot salsa verde) - though you'll also find great birria, tortas, and gorditas. The menu is huge - lots to work through. The place is very roomy and the walls are all lined with booth-seating which I like, not to mention a ton of windows, which gives this place a bright environment compared to most cavernous restaurants around vernor. It has a very home-like feel to it, in a way that other comfy hole-in-the-wall restaurants don't. It would be easy to bring large parties here too. Being in company of more than 6 can get really hard in southwest, but not here. (They might also cater too, as I've seen them carrying out to a van large tin trays of rice and meats - but you should double-check). There's a small general store area in front of the register where you can get snacks and other pantry items, meats, hot food) They have some of the best horchata in town here. It's as good as Sr. Lopez, which beats all others. They do up micheladas in really big glass mugs too. I think there's a full bar. Service is always above par. (and they get just a few bonus points for having a keep-you-guessing tv display... sometimes it's Latin American futbol league, sometimes it's SpongeBob SquarePants)

Whoa! This place is awful! And I read the reviews on here and they were wrong! To the review said don't let the neighborhood scare you-beware as we were there some guy was getting beat up across the street and there was blood all over. The service in this place is terrible they had to bring out a translator, I asked the girl if they had something and she had no idea what it was and I explained to her again and she said yes so I ordered the menudo and it had no hominy in it it was terrible. The salsa is bland taste very tomatoey... The enchilada sauce was rancid.. and the corn tortillas tasted like Play-Doh. They had the audacity to just go ahead and add the tip in.. believe me I would not have left that tip and that should be illegal. You leave it too for the value of the service not to make up for the wages that the employer is not paying the server. And it is also a store and nothing in the store had prices on it so that's where they get you. It looked pretty dirty back near the meat, I would not buy any meat from that place. I'm only giving it one star so I can post my review but I would not give it any stars. I'm tempted to call the health department on them.
