La Fonda Mexican Kitchen- Brown City

I love this place, when you're in Imlay city definitely stop by and get the burrito. The food is delicious the service is amazing and the atmosphere is very nice definitely highly recommend

I have never, ever walked out of a restaurant without receiving my food before going here. We happened to be in town for a cross country meet that ran late. Kids were starving, and we love Mexican food so this place seemed like a no brainer. We were expecting it to be busy due to the meet in town but there were only 2 other tables when we walked in. Maybe they all knew what we didn't and they stayed away. Aside from the initial "Hello, please seat yourself" it took 10 minutes for a waitress to show up to get drinks and our order. I ordered guacamole and specifically requested it come with the chips and salsa. It didn't. It took TWENTY minutes for them to bring out approx. 2 oz of guac. The waitress did apologize for the wait and brought fresh chips for it. 40 minutes into this experience, we lost patience and left without receiving our food. This restaurant was not busy, at all. I would never attempt to eat here again.

My husband and I have been dining here for years, quite literally since they opened. Food was great, prices were fantastic and their taco Tuesday deal was wonderful. I say "was" because now it isnt. I had a house full of people on taco Tuesday and LaFonda's was well known for their $1 taco specials on Tuesday...ground beef, shredded beef, shredded chicken or carnitas all for a buck each on Tuesday. Today I called in an order for 45 tacos(!!!). After I finished my order I was told that they no longer offer the dollar deal but they are still offering the 5 for $6 deal. I told the young man that's fine and asked him if I would be charged for 9 of those deals (45 tacos ÷ 5=9) and he said "yes ma'am! Okay so I'm going to spend $54 for what i expected to be $45. I still didnt have to cook that night...all good!When i arrived 30 minutes later to pick up my order (they told me 25 to 30 minutes), i was given a bill for $98.20!!! I looked over the bill and there were only 3 or 4 orders of the 5 for $6. Everything else was priced a la Carter at $2.50 each. He also then told me that shredded beef and carnitas are not included in the "deal". Also, we had 6 tacos that were shredded chicken, some hard shell some soft, 4 with no tomato... They didnt ring them up as part of the deal, nope! $2.50 each. Also, my granddaughter ordered 4 ground beef tacos with no tomato, and my other granddaughter ordered 2 tacos with no meat...Did i get a deal on those? Nope! $2.50 each! I was charged over $30 for something that should've been around $12. When i asked the man if that could be rectified since we were actually saving them money especially on a meatless taco, he literally laughed in my face and told me all LaFonda locations now have the same menu and pricing, "it is what it is".I said, "fine". We ordered it and i paid for it but i also told him i would never EVER dine there again. There were about 9 people in the restaurant either waiting to order or pick up food...3 of them left behind me. Oh and I still had to wait another 35 minutes before my order was ready.Buyer beware, this is NOT the LaFonda's that it used to be. I didnt see any of the normal wait staff or cooks...all new people and believe me they do not care one iota about you.

Terrible service, terrible food and awful cook. Microwaved rice and beans and somehow it still took over 25 minutes for our food and it was cold. Only got 1/2 of what we ordered as they forgot, but they sure remembered to charge us! Stop at Ben's grocery store and grab a Banquet Mexican Meal and microwave for 5 minutes; you'll have a better experience! When we told the cook about our food being wrong she wanted to argue with us and said she'd call me the next day..... I'm still waiting. My family and I WILL NEVER BE BACK, we have tried several times to support this local business. It is now the end of February and they still have all their Christmas decorations up! The place is filthy, get your lazy staff to clean and take some pride in your business!

I have been waiting for over three months to get a response fron the owner. I ordered take out for my lunch and did not get what i paid for. I called that day and a week later.....still no call. I will not be patronizing this resturant again.

We have fallen in love with La Fonda. We enjoy their chips. Salsa could have a little more spice but it is good. The Texas burrito is my favorite. It is tasty and huge. I always have a meal to take home.

My new restaurant for Mexican food. I had the shredded beef chimichanga that was absolutely delicious. Very large servings for a very reasonable price. The only complaints being that the salsa was very plain, more like tomato sauce with a little spice. The service was good, the waitress was friendly and the food was served quickly.

Never have I gone in there and not been greeted warmly. They bring out chips and salsa right away which is always good. I usually get the nacho's or some Mexican taco's which are good as well. While I have not got many things off the menu as of yet, what I have had was delicious. The server was very friendly and attentive to my needs. The food comes out fairly fast so no complaints there.The food comes out in some huge portions. I usually get something like the nacho's off the side menu. Trust me it's a whole meal onto itself.No complaints from me on this place.

I'm a local so I eat here quite often. If you have high expectations for purely authentic Mexican food, you will be disappointed. Each dish seems to have some sort of Americanized twist. Honestly, I love the food here, the daily deals on different meals are great (especially on Taco Tuesdays), and I've been able to come in with big parties (of 8-16) and been able to immediately get a table. There's lots of room for bigger parties.Some of the waitstaff are not as attentive as they could be, but they're all very nice and I've never had a problem with any of them. I've always received my order in a relatively timely fashion and they've never made a mistake on my order. My only complaint is that they're not open in Wednesdays.

So far have never been disappointed. Service has always been good. And the food is original. And is a good value. Clean is very important and so far it has lived up to it.
