We came in just for some oysters and ended up getting muscles too. The bread is phenomenal. I know it's a bit ridiculous to be talking about the bread at a steak place, but here we are. The staff were absolutely lovely and attentive. we didn't have to wait For meals or drinks. They have a full bar. I'm going to have to come back for sometime when I am looking to eat a full dinner. The space is relatively small, but it is clean and tastefully decorated. It was one of our better dying experiences we've had in a while. Definitely not the cheapest oysters I've ever had, but it's Michigan Michigan in the winter.

We are longtime customers; we've been coming here for decades and have always been pleased with the quality of the food, drinks, and service. In contrast to the upscale Rochester Chop House in the rear, Kabin Krusers is a casual place with lots of ambient chit-chat, so we always try to get a seat in a corner or off to the side. (If you want to be in the thick of things, the bar is the place to be.)With all that said, we had high expectations for our usual stellar experience at Kabin Krusers on a recent Saturday. But sadly, our hopes were dashed. Let me explain. We were interested in happy hour and the food specials that go along with it. However, when we looked online at the restaurant group's website, and on Yelp, and on other sites, we could find no consistent information about happy hour times - there was a lot of conflicting information. (The Kruse & Muer people need to get their PR/communications act together.) Finally, my wife called the restaurant and was told that happy hour was indeed in effect that day, from 2 to 5 p.m. We got to the restaurant about 4:30, in time for happy hour (so we thought), and I parked in back while my wife went in. The metered parking there is convenient, but the meters are finicky - they do not like to accept credit cards. You'll be lucky if the meter will accept your card by the 7th or 8th try. Maybe try a pocket of coins instead...Anyway, my wife told me that when she was seated and asked about the happy hour menu, she was informed that happy hour had already ended - at 4 p.m.! Obviously, someone had given her the wrong information. It was frustrating, and our server did not try and extend happy hour for us, considering we had been misinformed over the phone by an employee. Nevertheless, we decided to go ahead and order dinner off the regular menu and get drinks too. The complimentary bread came first and it was tasty. For an appetizer, I got my usual James Beard clam chowder, and it was great. My wife ordered baked oysters with brie - but when the dish arrived, there were only THREE forlorn-looking oysters! At $16, that app should have had at least four oysters. That would be a predictor of things to come. For our entree, we decided to split an order of sea scallops, which came in a sauce with rice, asparagus, corn, and stewed tomatoes. Because it was priced at a whopping $40 (again, this is a casual place, not fine dining like the Chop House in back), I assumed that the entree would have at least six or seven scallops. Well, was I surprised when the entree arrived! There were only - wait for it - FOUR scallops, and the sauce (although tasty) featured only slices of semi-hard asparagus stalks along with the other vegetables. Yes, asparagus STALKS - the worst part of the asparagus, the part you throw away - with NO asparagus tips! $40 for that! We felt like we'd been had. I suppose we should have asked about the number of scallops in the dish before ordering it; we were too trusting. Oh, but were the scallops good? Yes. Were they great? No. They were decent. Passable. It was a good thing that our server was pleasant and attentive, and that she brought us a second basket of bread. That helped ease the distress and make our evening a little better. We did get a dessert - key lime pie, which we've had there before - and it was good. But overall, we were greatly disappointed, and we didn't feel that we got our money's worth out of that $100 dinner. Will we try Kabin Krusers again? It's really hard to say at this point. If you decide to go, don't expect too much. Maybe just have drinks.

Although this is part of the Kruse and Muir family of restaurants, I wouldn't rate it as well in quality, service or ambiance. We went on a Friday night during the Rochester Christmas lighting so it might've been busier than normal. I don't know what it's normally like on a Friday night so I have nothing to compare to. I've never been here before. We looked at the menu and there were so many seafood options. That was the main reason we came here . It was actually incredibly noisy in here and the tables were very close together. My friend started off with some raw oysters on the shell the Maine oysters and he said they were very good. Then for the main course he got the Jimmy's perch which he said was very good and it came with mashed potatoes and was a good size portion. I got the broiled white fish and it was good, except for the fact that it was way too salty, and it only came with two stalks of broccolini and it was $26.

Since Kabin Krusers advertises as an oyster bar let's start with the oysters Rockefeller. Small oysters, one served on a broken shell fragment, covered in a gloopy Hollandaise sauce. Perhaps the worst oyster dish I had ever been served. I ordered the lobster bisque from the daily menu. Out. I ordered the oyster stew. Out. I was comped a cup of clam chowder which was 6/10 with plentiful clam chunks. The blackened whitefish was merely broiled with a seasoning but it was OK. The mashed potatoes which cost a $10 up charge were just plain terrible. My wife enjoyed her twin filet and lobster tail. She wisely ordered rare so the filet would come medium-rare. She also suffered through the mashed potatoes. Every bite served to us required seasoning. Service was competent. I felt bad for the waitress having to represent this place and avoided acting too pissy. There are plenty of good restaurants in downtown Rochester to consider. Kabin Krusers should not be one of them.

Haven't been in about a year and we went last Thursday. It was just not the same. The martini was not good. I love a lemon drop. They forgot the lemon. They've changed the bread they serve with our meal and the muscles. Diablo had barely any flavor very disappointed and sad. Hope they can get it together soon

I've been going to this restaurant for at least 20 years and have to say it's been going downhill the past 4 or 5 times. I was with other people and I so regret not sending both of our meals right back. We had the grilled tacos and provencale siesta key style. There was hardly any fish in either of the dishes, the rice wasn't cooked and the ambiance was so loud with the staff slamming dirty dishes. Please get back to your roots and start serving good food again. This is another restaurant that is now off my list.
