James Oliver Coffee

I came to James Oliver Coffee for the coffee (which was great) but had no idea I'd leave thinking about their homemade bagels! My husband and I shared one, and it was so delicious we immediately ordered another. The dill cream cheese is a must try, don't sleep on it!I've been twice in the last week, and the experience has been consistently great. The staff are super friendly, and the vibe is welcoming. This location is a great place to come and work. It's much quieter than the corktown location, but unfortunately the menu is smaller. They still have oat and almond milk, but I didn't see any vegan food options. Although, the guardian building is so beautiful it makes up for a smaller menu.

Quiet little restaurant in the Corktown area where you can grab a quick bite in the morning. Tasty breakfast sandwiches which are quickly prepared and brought to you. Plenty of seating where you can relax and have a conversation with friends or get some work done.

The coffee is great, and I really appreciate the real half & half and the course-ground sugar packets, which adds a touch of brown sugar flavor.I love the savory flavors and texture of the bagels, but why do almost all of them have extra salt on them? Lots of people have to watch their salt intake and this limits them to a plain bagel. (But it is a good bagel, nonetheless.)The homemade dill and the chive cream cheese blends are wonderful, too.Marilyn C.

I'm so glad they took over the old coffee shop space - their lattes are absolutely fantastic, and I love their sandwiches and pastries. The lox sandwich was so delicious. Perfect chive cream cheese, everything bagel, smoky salty lox, capers, cucumber and spinach. A perfect breakfast sandwich. The staff is very friendly, they're pretty quick and so conveniently located in the Guardian. I definitely recommend stopping in!

Quick and convenient. The building was stunning and the owner was very sweet. It was a great quick stop before starting my day.

Located in the beautiful Guardian building downtown. This little coffee stand might seem like your typical museum coffee shop brewing Starbucks Pike Place beans, but their baristas are good at what they do and use good old Great Lakes coffee. Latte art and all. A nice peaceful venue to break for a cup of coffee.

This might've been the best lavender oat milk latte I've ever had. Came back twice in a week for it! The barista was so sweet as well. I was visiting from California so I'm a bit devastated that I can't just walk over here every morning for breakfast.

I am told by the receptionist at the front desk that this has been closed since the pandemic started. Since it is now April 2022, it doesn't look like it is coming back.

Best coffee shop in Detroit! The drinks and pastries are a great way to start your morning!
