I come here specifically for their meat or cheese pie Pastizzi. Pastizzi is a stable in Malta similar to the Latin empanada but with a flakey crust. They sell them by the dozen and come frozen. Not easy to find in the Detroit area but I've been coming here for the past 5 years. They also offer various Italian cookies along with dinner rolls, breads,etc. Their pizza dough is outstanding as well.

Always come here when I am in Michigan . Italia Bakery has good bread and they carry Maltese Pastizi. Always a pleasure shopping here.

Great little bakery, picked up Pastizzi for holiday party and some cannolis. Very good! They have lots of fresh bread that I'll need to get another time.

They make the very best Focaccia bread with sun dried tomatoes. Love them unfilled Cannoli shells the small ones 70 cent each I take home to fill with meats and cheese. Fabulous breads, cookies for all to enjoy.The Best Focaccia in the D. This is a great place run by very nice people. They have really good Italian bread, pizza, pepperoni rolls, and all kinds of home made cookies and pastries. The service is great and very friendly. You have got to try their cannolis and their amaretto cookies.Very Bestest Cannoli you'll ever eat,,hey you can buy the the unstuffed shells too ,,,hey make your own filling. If you like the cannoli at Alcamo's Market, you can thank the source, Italia Bakery. Robert Imperi, son of the owners, described the two-day process of how his mother makes the cream filling from scratch. "... we make it one day then it has to set and then the following day we finish it off.". His grandfather started delivering bread in the early 20s and opened the bakery in 1973. Imperi added, "The key is to always fill them fresh so they stay crunchy."

I visit this place at least once a week. I always get dinner rolls and loaves of bread. Once in a while I'll get a pepperoni roll or a cannoli, and they're both absolutely delicious. Sometimes when they're busy you might have to wait a little bit to get waited on but it's worth the wait.Update: Never order over the phone. The women working customer service do not speak English well. It takes forever to explain what I want. I understand that an original ethnic bakery can have employees with limited English skills, but placing an order shouldn't have to be as difficult as it is and it has caused me to take my business elsewhere from time to time.

Any Maltese out there? This is where you can find frozen pastizzi. Both meat and ricotta. Boy, they do a GREAT job. I travel about an hour to get them for parties, or just because. They come frozen with instructions, and are very easy to bake. My family is all 100% Maltese, 'off the boat", as they say, and they ask love the pastizzi from Il Italia bakery. I have only tried the pastizzi, but if I lived closer I m sure I would try more. The staff is also very nice!

Don't let the small menu fool you, this place is incredible! The bread makes the ideal sub sandwich bun, and it smells so amazing that I enjoy the hotbox in my car on the way back to Chelsea. Also, get lots of their almond cookies. This place is so talented with almonds that they should win a golden almond trophy or be watched over by the patron saint of almonds. The staff and owners are incredibly friendly too.

Their cookies are amazing!!! Great bread. Fresh ingredients. Friendly. Glad to support small/local businesses.
