Hops & Barley Bar & Grill

From a bar perspective, this is a cool enough place to come and chill in a laid-back place with a friendly staff and cold drinks.If you find yourself in this part of Michigan, Hops & Barley is a cool place to grab a cold drink with some friends.I would definitely recommend here.

This is a spot is perfect for some good bar food. I came in the middle of the afternoon after a flight. I was hungry after getting off of the plane so I decided to try this spot out. The food was really good. I had the corned beef sandwich and chili cheese fries. And my friend had the wings. Everything was 10/10. Our waitress was very nice. To drink we had long islands .. and if you're looking for a spot with strong drinks ... this is definitely the place ! There were old school r & b jams playing, which made for a great atmosphere!

I went here to meet up with a friend. It is a easy to miss but easy to find once you have been here. It has a local urban bar feel with a casual atmosphere. You pretty much come in and seat yourself at the bar or a table. There are TVs in various booths and also music playing. The waitress served me quickly. I ordered mushrooms and a drink while waiting for my friend. They give you a lot of food. The mushrooms were fried and good. The drink was strong like a like a long island. I ordered wings and my friend got the steak. The wings were good but tasting the steak was even better. The price to get a large steak here is awesome. The waitress was friendly. It's a nice place to chill and get a meal and drink while listening to music. I will check it out again in the future.

Sadly, this is not the Hops and Barley we once knew and loved. They use to have drink specials everyday, beer specials daily, along with the dinner deals. Service was mmkay, but food and drinks were gross and the cleanliness left a little to be desired. The prime rib, was rancid. I smelled something off as soon as it hit the table. The fat smelled, and the taste, it was bad. It had turned, and if it was noticeable after cooking, then it was noticeable before and they should be ashamed for sending it out. My husbands piece looked like it sat in blood and then got plated. I work in food safety and education. I have worked in food service, and theres no way that should have gotten past the cooks, kitchen manager, food expeditor nor waitress. The plate was lazy, corn was served in corn water in a ramekin. The only edible thing would have been potatoes. We sent it back, paid for drinks and left.

(Visited 1/7/2020.) In town on business and it's now after work... that means playtime! Lol. So I got a few of my friends together to meet here because I've heard good things, so here goes!Atmosphere/Appearance: Set out in Melvindale is this spectacular dive bar. It looks like a big house with it's own private parking lot so it won't be hard to miss. Inside is fairly basic. There are lots of high-top tables in the middle and a Touchtunes box to put on all of your favorite jams. The bar is right at the back of the restaurant and there's a really long table that's on a pedestal that can seat 10 people. Again, it's a dive/sports bar so it's simply a great place for a simple meal and to get together with your friends.Service: I can't remember the young lady that took care of all 12 of us, but she was awesome. We had her running all over the place but she did not miss a beat! Service is solid.Food: I don't remember having much to eat here, but I definitely did some drinking! Lol. The drinks were SO STRONG and they still had some taste to them. I may have had a wing or 2 here and there, but I had no complaints!Value: CHEAP. I mean, it's a dive bar. They're not allowed to serve expensive things. Lol. Drinks were cheap, food was cheap, what more could you want?!In conclusion this is an awesome hangout spot. Period. Gather up a few of your buddies, come through and hang out!

Grabbed a carry out tonight, everything was very good!!Service was speedy. Will return Great to be able to get delicious food late night on a Monday these days

This is a great neighborhood divey spot that is a favorite to friends that I have that come from the area. I was surprised to see couples with children in tow in this type of establishment given the alcohol that was prevalent and strewn about the tables. There are daily specials offered. Three that I have had are the Prime Rib (Tuesdays), Steak (Thursdays), and AYCE Fish & Chips (Fridays). The service has been consistent on the occasions that I've been there considering the crowd. The portions are huge which complimentary to the beverage offering of flavored margaritas and daiquiris. Excellent spot to kick back and relax after a long work day.

We are celebrating a friend achievement we met two nice young ladies who table we joined because it was extremely busy. We order the prime rib special. The service was fast and on Fridays it is only $10 for prime rib.

This used to be a favorite until their was a racial incident from the owners at this establishment earlier this year . The incident was so real that the restaurant closed for months . Now the restaurant has chose to of course reopen but not deal with the blatant disrespect against people of color . I'm so tired of racism and business owners that are not held accountable for being WRONG. Don't reopen saying there has been changes . Say what's real about what happened and stop deleting people post that continuously ask why you didn't deal with the racial comments against every black person that day at the bar and grill .. Which I could choose zero stars

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!Went here a few weeks ago. Sat there for 15 minutes while the server walked past us several times. Finally I asked if we were going to get waited on. The server with the long pony tail asked if we were waiting long and I said yes! The others that I was with got fed up and said let's go somewhere else. I asked the server with red hair, who had walked past us and went on the side texting on her phone and drinking her drink, why she couldn't wait on us. Her answer was so stupid. She said her and pony tail were splitting the tables. REALLY??? Red hair was waiting on the entire section we were in and totally ignored us. Never once acknowledged us in any way. Someone told me that red hair now has black hair with a little red in the back. The person said they walked in, and saw her still working there and walked back out. I put a complaint on their site and they deleted it. Obviously, they don't care!! Guess we won't go there again.
