Had dinner for the first time last night celebrating hubby's birthday, and it was excellent. Such an enjoyable dining experience from the vibe to the food and drinks to the service. If I lived closer, we'd be here more often for sure. I started with a cocktail - the salty dog - a vodka grapefruit drink that was delightful and not too sweet - perfect. If I wasn't driving, I'd have had 2. Hubby had a perfect Maker's old fashioned, and they have a nice beer menu. We ordered oysters, wings, the grouper and the fish and chips. Everything was hot (or cold), fresh and delicious. The oysters were top notch - they had 4 or 5 varieties to choose from, and our server had great recommendations. He was outstanding the whole night; I'd go back just to have him serve us again. We had an east coast and a west coast variety and enjoyed both so much that we rodered 6 more after our first dozen. Sauces were simple and homemade and just right. I love their homemade hot sauce and the grated horseradish was nice. There was also a cocktail sauce and a red wine vinegar mignonette. Next, the wings came out hot and fast and were served with homemade buffalo and blue cheese - fall off the bone tender and so flavorful. We eat wings everywhere, and these stood out because of how nice and tender they were. I'd for sure try their fried chicken based on those. For entrees, hubby had the grouper which was perfectly cooked and served with a lemon butter wine sauce, potatoes and green beans, and I had the fish and chips, which was a large piece of cod and fries - I was able to give half to hubby to share. Perfectly fried, crispy and fresh; just needed a touch of salt. Decent coleslaw. Finally, our server surprised hubby with a chocolate ice cream dessert for his birthday - exactly what he likes! Very yummy. Again, I have to reiterate how excellent our server was - he was knowledgeable, clearly knew the menu, and had great recommendations. Based on what he likes, I'd order the whole fried fish next time, which was red snapper last night, but can also be branzino, which I love. Looking forward to our next visit!

I finally tried the warmed lobster roll, and wow--what a treat. The lobster was perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful, but what really sealed the deal was the buttery toasted roll. It was golden, soft, and basically the perfect vessel for all that deliciousness. Every bite felt indulgent and satisfying. That being said... it was *expensive*. If they knocked a few bucks off, I'd be back in a heartbeat. For now, it's a "treat yourself" kind of meal--delicious, but definitely not an everyday splurge.

Hazel's as a restaurant is good. It has great food and waitstaff, but the events management team is awful. My wedding planner booked the place for our rehearsal dinner, but it took forever for them to get callbacks from anyone. Once that was all settled, I asked if I could be the main point of contact since my planner wouldn't be at the rehearsal dinner. At this point, it seemed like they must have said yes but not responded, because then neither my planner nor I could get into this portal they had us sign into. No matter, I had the emails anyway. However, when I tried to email them, multiple times, I got no response. I called and left messages, and I never got a callback. So, I went rogue and literally filled out a new event request form on the website. They responded the next day. Because I was going to be in town, I asked for a meeting so we can finally chat. We met up, I nonchalantly mentioned like, hey, so what happened with the communication? No apology, just something like "I didn't see it in my inbox". After that, they were good at responding, but it is extremely disappointing that it took me pretending to be a whole new person for them to talk to me. If you're thinking of this place for a rehearsal dinner spot, I highly discourage it. The price and the fact you can have a Welcome Event at the same place is appealing, but I would say looking back that it was not worth it. Overall, I think Hazel's should either improve its events business, hire new event staff, or cut the events side of the business all together and focus on its top notch restaurant.

Hazel's is my go-to restaurant for all things seafood and one of the best burgers in town! I truly love everything Hazel's has to offer from their Token Burger, amazing Peel & Eat shrimp, Lobster Roll, amazing fries, and the best Shirley temple in town! Hazel's in the summer is my favorite!

Coming from someone who has been to every seafood mecca in the United States, I can say Hazel's is legit! We ordered both a Connecticut and Maine lobster roll. Holy moly. We love this place. Why? They don't go cheap on the meat! Probably the most generous amount of lobster we've had on a roll before. The lobster salad is also A+! You can never have too much lobster. Definitely this is a staple and premier spot in Birmingham. I'd recommend this for anyone visiting!

The lobster bisque was heavenly - efficient, generous and very tasty, not overly salted like some places. The atmosphere casual inside and spacious. The service is quick and efficient. The fish tacos are very flavorful in a soft taco. The crabcakes and crab sandwiches taste authentic and the fries or just right. This is a great place worth visiting!

Great seafood and very high level service. Not many options if you don't like seafood but there is a kids menu for seafood non-lovers. Very clean and lively atmosphere but not too loud.

My family came here for an early Mother's Day celebration and we left so happy from the great food and service! Our server Matthew was attentive with our waters and orders and the food came out quicker than fast food places while being fresh and delicious! The portions here are also large so you will not leave hungry. It's also a large open space inside that is great for groups. Appetizers: Calamari and hot crab dip - delicious! Loved the chili aioli that came with the calamari. The bread that came with the piping hot crab dip was also super soft in the inside and crispy on the outside. Soups: Lobster bisque - lots of lobster pieces. Half and half (lobster bisque and cream of crab) - we thought it was separate portions of each but it was mixed together which was a surprise but was still good. The cream of crab added creaminess to the lobster bisque and made it less acidic. Mains: Warm lobster roll - large chunks of lobster on a perfectly buttered bun. Soft shell crab sandwich - large sized crab on a soft bun. Sides: We upgraded the fries that came with our lobster rolls to garlic fries and hush puppies which were very worth it! Hush puppies had some scallion inside with soft butter on the side and the garlic fries had a good amount of garlic/parmesan/butter topping. Dessert: wrecking ball - a large vanilla ice cream ball covered in trail mix and toffee topped with hot fudge and a cherry. My group of 5 split one serving and were satisfied.

Went to Hazel's for my mom's birthday, she absolutely loves seafood. A very spacious building with very cute seafood decor. They were able to seat us in an area that was pretty private so we could just enjoy our family time. We got crab cakes and oysters as appetizers which were tasty but probably should have order more for our large party. I opted to be basic and just get fish and chips but was not disappointed at all. Crispy, well seasoned with fresh fries and tasty tartar, can't ask for much more than that. Will be back!

If you are a lover of fresh seafood, especially crab, then Hazel's is the place for you. The crab cakes appetizers were the best crab cakes we have ever had. Real crab and no filler! The flash fried soft shell crab appetizer was also very good and came with a savory, slightly spicy remoulade dipping sauce. They are well known for their lobster rolls which you can order Connecticut (hot with butter) or Maine style (warm with mayo). We got Connecticut style. The brioche style bun with butter was a bit rich for our personal taste but the lobster was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back to try their Maryland Blue Crab A La Carte and steam pots!
