It's pretty cute. Giving older crowd with average cost of drinks. It's v dim inside. Neon lights and bright lights. The bartenders are v friendly and try to make sure you're served. I went during some kind of org or club meeting so it was busy ish but not at the same time. There is a small parking lot but not any street parking. It's prob a little hidden driving by which is a pro and con in itself. Overall would go back again.

Halo? HELL NO! I've given this bar several chances since its new ownership took over and rebranded it. I've never cared for it much, but I have friends who like it and often host events there, so I've grown to tolerate it over the years. The new owners made some improvements in the interior layout, better lighting, and one of the nicer patios around. But the most recent three visits were plagued by what I can only describe as complete mismanagement and subpar service. On the first visit, I gave up twice trying to order a drink while the bartender ignored me and ended up walking outside to have a cigarette while I was standing at the bar. I stood there long enough that it became a game to see just how long it would take to ever be acknowledged, but after 12 minutes of being the only person left standing in front of the bar, I was too bored to satisfy my curiosity and gave up. Strike one.On the next visit, the side door entrance was locked and we had to enter through the street entrance (which is inherently unsafe). We were carded (which was flattering at age 32, but at 52 is far less amusing) and patted down before being charged a $10 cover. If you haven't yet been there, let me spare you the time and just say this single room Detroit dive bar has never been worth a $10 cover and never will be. It is utterly insane and anyone who has ever paid it has done so begrudgingly. I only did because it was a 30 minute drive getting there with nothing similar around and it was easier to pay it than to change plans with friends who were already waiting for me and had not paid any cover. Strike two.On the third visit, which I'll admit I hesitated to make, we were able to enter through the usual side entrance and there was no cover because it was before 9:00 p.m. At around 9:45 I realized I left my glasses in my car and went out the side door to the parking lot. When I returned seconds later, I found the door was locked and I had to enter through the street side door, where I was carded and patted down and told I had to pay the $10 cover. I told them I just came out the other door to go to my car and already had a drink on the patio I just left where my friends still were. They insisted on charging the $10 cover, essentially stealing $10 from me. Strike three. They need customers more than we need another filthy dive bar with an identity crisis and gimmicky front door grifters scamming the few regulars they manage to reel in. Utter thieves.

I'm all about a low key, divey watering hole and this place fit the bill. I was expecting it to be packed as the parking lot was full (with the exception of a couple of open spots), but thankfully, that wasn't the case.I'm not sure of their happy hour times (we arrived closer to 7pm) but we had a couple of drinks each and they were only 4.00 for well cocktails (not a bad price indeed). Bartenders were somewhat friendly (but not overly), and they weren't as attentive being that it wasn't busy.If you want to play tunes out of their jukebox you might need to ask the bartender to unlock it as an electronic message was displayed (not that the music playing was bad, I just wanted to hear some of my choice). Overall, I really like this place and will be back during our stay.

I love this bar. The drinks are poured heavy and the beer is ice cold. Nice patio out back with ample seating. Friendly bartenders and a friendly crowd.

Can be hit or miss depending on if there's an event. Drinks are poured well and with the new owner it's had some great upgrades indoors and out.

I LOVE Hayloft Saloon! The bartenders are always friendly, there's no cover and the music isn't so loud that your ears bleed. Improvements to the property have been slow but steady and the area isn't dangerous. Friday & Saturday nights are best.

I'm kinda disappointed in the new iteration of Hayloft / Halo. A few weeks ago there was some DJ playing but it was absolutely for straight people. The 15 or so mostly regular guys were all looking around like WTF? Then last night there was a puppy event. Which is great, they need space for it. Thanks for hosting it. BUT here are the issues. 1. Why in the heck are you using the front door? ESPECIALLY for any type of fetish themed event? It's widely understood that it can be a dangerous situation visibly on the street wearing such gear, especially in today's political environment, and in the location. Use the side door - always. 2. Charging a ten dollar cover in this bar is ridiculous. Maybe three to five but it's not a 10 dollar cover type bar. When Q started charging cover it closed within months. I get that it's hard to maintain gay bars with younger guys mostly not going out and not supporting their local businesses but you will alienate the people you want coming in. 3. The bartender is always super friendly but not really on the ball, he probably should stay away from alcohol or other things during his shift 4. Is it honestly really necessary to have a security guard pat down your patrons? I hate leaving a review like this because it's obvious you guys are trying really hard with the updates, the patio, etc. but remember you need our money more than we need you. And charging for cover is absolutely not the way to go about it. I really hope you consider taking some of these suggestions in mind. I, obviously, want to support your bar but it is getting a little difficult to do so. Thanks

very poor staff and service! if your not "sexy" enough they treat you like shit! they allow inappropriate behavior happen that could shut the bar down in a heart beat and they atmosphere is disgusting and smells like piss where ever you walk. this bar needs to be closed down! the owner has no clue of how to run a bar!

I am a queer trans woman who went to Hayloft with another queer friend. We were so eager to go to a gay saloon in Detroit, but the reality was devastating. For over fifteen minutes at a fairly slow bar we we continuously ignored. The bartenders repeatedly made direct eye contact before quickly looking away and avoiding us. One bartender seemed to even wave the other away from serving or even acknowledging us. When we decided to give up after it was made abundantly clear we weren't welcome there we heard laughter at us while walking out the door. This isn't an LGBTQIA friendly bar, that was made obvious; It's was a profoundly unwelcoming experience at a bar for cis gay men and not the community at large. It's heartbreaking to know that I would have been treated better back when I was closeted and miserable. Skip this place and go to Adam's Apple nearby or one of the other LGBTQ friendly bars in the area. It's sad to see this from a bar which has been around for so long.

I walked in and it was an older crowd and I felt like I was looked at weirdly. Probably not a place for younger people.
