Our family had this place reserved for a wedding reception. Truly a beautiful venue with lots of character, both inside and out. With several sections for people to mingle, a quality bar and staffing, and outdoor seating surrounded by roses there's really a lot to like. It was a great experience and lives up to the high bar of "happiest day of my life" to the bride and groom. Can't recommend this venue enough. It's also adjacent to churches and hotels making it a solid option for planning a large gathering.

Held a company event during the 2024 draft. Literally EVERYTHING was top notch. From the event coordinator, to the food, bar, space, staff, parking, etc.So many compliments from customers!! Many said it was far and away the best work event they ever attended.I cannot recommend this venue enough. 5+ stars

Went to a wedding at the Gem theater this past weekend; and the venue was amazing. The ceremony took place in a large room upstairs and the reception was held next to the stage. The theater is beautiful, historic, and well-staffed. The bartenders were friendly and the drinks were strong. The dressing rooms for the wedding party are under the stage, which was kind of confusing to get to but it was cool to see the rest of the building. The location- right downtown- is convenient for finding locations for pictures but it still has its own dedicated parking. Can't wait to return for another event there.

I have seen the GEM theater while driving through but had never been here. I was invited by a friend for the COTS event that they have here every year. It is a benefit for the in need, particularly children and Mothers. Right up my ailey. It is always great to give. There is a parking garage directly around the corner. Parking was $10. On entering we found that there were 3 floors. There was also a cash bar, food provided by different restautants and an area where a band was performing. The setup was unique and the architecture was a look back to the past. It was colorful and appealing. Overall a great time was had. I look forward to other events here in the future.

I was at the Gem for a fundraiser and recognition event for the Ruth Ellis Center, called Voices, 20 year celebration. The facility was lovely, and we were seated at rounds of 10, which made it a bit tight on the main floor. But there was not a bad seat in the house. The parking garage is attached and well lit and attended. And the theater lobby and bars are perfect for any occasion!

Gem seems just that. Maybe more. I visited Detroit on a day where Gem had a lot going for it. But you needed tickets ahead of time. There were marching bands. Musicians! Theatre productions were moving giant paintings. It was festive and alive at the Gem. I will definitely come back.

I've seen two plays at the Gem now, and it's been delightful both times. The main floor is reserved tables and there's a balcony as well. I've sat on the main floor both times and I've had no problems with the view. It doesn't seem like a very handicap friendly venue, but it's old and gives Detroit some character. Most of the shows here aren't big productions, and I doubt they could really do anything big. It's a great venue and the Grille/bar next to it is nice. Even though they have tables on the main floor, they do not have a waiter service, so you'll have to go get your own drinks before hand! Or sneak in your own :)

This is a great place to really "enjoy" theatre. The setting is about as intimate as it comes without being cheesy. The jewel box style Gem Theatre is lovely and beautifully restored. The Century Theatre tends to be more on the casual side but that may be that it is so much more understated than the rest of the building. Check out the plethora of pewabic pottery tiles throughout the building and the stained glass and widow's windows. The performance was good too, but I simply was distracted by the architecture.
