Service was excellent. The waitress was very attentive to our table. We sat in a spacious booth which was lovely. My husband and I were going out for a late Valentines dinner. We were starving so I was really happy that the bread came out. It was soft, hot and melted in our mouths. It came with butter and a salmon pate.I ordered a citrus salad and added blackened salmon on top for some extra protein And the salmon was prepared immaculately. It melted in my mouth, not overcooked and perfectly seasoned. The salad was also excellent. I enjoy all the ingredients separately but when placed together in the salad, it just came together so wonderfully. The dressing was tangy and refreshing. My husband ordered the lobster bisque, it was so good he cleaned his plate. The salad and soup course was excellent. For my main entree, I got the shrimp and crab bucatini. The shrimp was seasoned well and crispy. However, I thought the dish was bland. There was no depth or layering of flavors. At the very least it lacked salt. It may have been improved by adding Parmesan. I will find out when I heat and prepare my leftovers.Overall it was a good experience and we will be back to try some other entrees.

This is a fantastic Ann Arbor legacy restaurant. The ambience and staff are fantastic. 5 stars. The food is OK. Nothing that would make you dream of coming back. When we last went service was slow and some items arrived lukewarm warm. Given the short staffing we kind of rolled with it.Tempted to try happy hour to see if we have better luck with the food.

I'm being kind with two stars, we expected so much better especially for the cost. This was the worst meal and service we have ever had there. The six of us (all adults) went there to celebrate my wife and son's birthday. It was my wife's idea to go there based on our previous visits, which were very good. It started out nicely as we were able to sit next to the big Christmas tree as my wife requested, but was mostly disappointment to follow. We expected a great meal like we've had there on previous visits, but:The cosmopolitan in the martini glass was only half way filled which is 1/3 based on volume and way overpriced for the amount served. The $13 Caesar salad was overpriced for the size & quality. The $10 cups of soup were only warm. The bread basket came very late. Our waiter only came by a few times, we had someone hunt him down for the drink reorder. It took well over 20 minutes for drink refills which arrived after we mostly finished our disappointing meals. Our meals were brought to the table one or two plates at a time by some random person. Not sure what happened to our waiter. The $72 ribeye was completely charred and cupped up on one side but at least seamed to be cooked correctly (MR). It was warm but the mashed potatoes were stone cold. The strip steak was overcooked (asked for M), barely warm and was closer to well done - dried out. My daughter ate only the few center slices that wasn't completely ruined & had some of his ribeye. ALL of the sides were cold & only my wife had warm salmon. Her mashed potatoes were stone cold and hard - she never complains about food at a restaurant. My sea bass was tiny but still a bit warm, the rice was cool and lacking in flavor, the broccolini was stone cold. I came home hungry and felt robbed. My son was silent about his specially topped sea bass so I know he was disappointed too. His girlfriend said she liked the scallops but did not finish them, she was mostly quiet. I really wanted us to have a great meal experience. Our waiter never followed up until we mostly finished our meals and he came with the very late drink order blaming it on a "backup at the bar". He offered to send the manager, but an assistant manager came by later. He did comp the very poorly prepared strip steak and she did get a slice of key lime pie which was good. My wife and son did get a free crème brûlée with a candle for their birthday- probably the best thing they served. Nobody wanted to complain but later everyone said the same thing - the meal was cold and very DISAPPOINTING. The bill was $400 and I overtipped 15% for the poor service because it so close to the holiday. Much of the blame is on the absent server but the kitchen is not faultless. I expect the food to be delivered to the table promptly and expected more from the management. I provided feedback on their website and wonder if it will be acknowledged. If they do the right thing, I will report back.

Went for an early birthday dinner with my big sister. Pure nostalgia as we have had numerous significant events here over the years. She has lived in St. Louis for 30 years so it's been a minute for her. My last visit was for Sunday brunch pre pandemic.Still gorgeous here. Great service. Traditional fancy pants to the max. In all the best ways. Sadly no train during our visit. That would have made the visit perfection! We started with lobster bisque which was evilly rich and deeply satisfying. Complimentary bread and crackers with butter and salmon pate was appreciated too. Yum. As good as I remembered. For mains, I went for the Trio as I could not pick just one thing. The crab cake was a winner, the salmon is fantastic and the coconut shrimp was pretty good. The broccolini was oh so good but the rice was meh. My sister's scallop risotto was over the top droolicious. Perfect hit of sage and scallop perfection. My husband was in crab cake bliss. He liked the rice so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Overall it was amazing and I will be back. I love that I like it here as much as ai did in the 80s. Aging myself but not too many places you can say that about!

Wow, what a cool place! Architectural and history alone is worth the trip. Fantastic service and great food and drinks. Started with the Pearfect cocktail which was truly exceptional. Went with the suggested apple-bourbon sea bass and wild rice risotto which was amazing. Great special date night place. It is pricey, but for special occasions it is great.

Amazing experience! We absolutely loved our dinner here the other night. Such a beautiful and historic building right on the train tracks. Service was exceptional and so was our food. I ordered salmon and it was probably one of the best I've ever had. The Martha's Vineyard salad, calamari and even the bread were all so delicious. I wish there were more restaurants like this. Can't wait to go back.

Thank you ROY for an EXCELLENT dining experience. I personally invite you to try their SMOKING DRaGON! Which has tequila and Mezcal along with dragon fruit. You'll thank me later. The ambiance is romantic old world with class and nostalgic touches. The outdoor front patio is lovely with plenty of seating and a small water fountain for Charm. The food was good and we will definitely comeback! Next time I will bring cash for valet, as it is complementary but you should tip, I swear we had no cash. The valet guys were very professional and polite!

Roy is an excellent waiter! He suggested his favorite, the DiNAMiTE Scallops and not they were dynamite! You must try for yourself! But you can thank me later wink We also tried the Martha's Vineyard salad and the Caesar salad. Wouldt recommend the MV salad it was not as I was expecting and my wife did not like either. The Caesar was good but too life lived the thick cut cheese but wouldn't get either again. The King Crab legs were really good thick soft and buttery! They bring out the butter on a bowl and they have a cake on the bottom to keep it hot. My wife had the iron skillet flank with blistered tomatoes (they should change the name to Fire Roasted) and the potatoes. It was nice. Something different for a change. My wife had a Smoking Dragon cocktail wi h was exquisite and she had 3. Highly recommended this place.

What a great experience we had! We had reservations for 8:00 pm which we achieved through Resy. Gandy Dancer hostess found our reservation just fine. We were a few minutes early so we got to visit the bar and encounter the gracious and expert bartenders. I did notice that one bartender- a lady - disposed of the wine bottles by breaking them in the bin. Not sure why that was but wow, a surprising noise each time. We also noticed that patrons clap when the train passes through. It's a thing at Gandy Dancer. Our table was ready right on time except it had a leaf folded up that kept landing in my husband's lap. The table was situated right in the entry traffic flow so we asked to be seated in a quieter area and, amazingly, they had a table in a lovely alcove that was perfect for our party of four. We had incredible escargot. I had scallops with asparagus. All around we stuck closer to surf more than turf and all had great entrees. We shared a dessert of carrot cake. The server was very attentive, the coursing of the food was timely. We had a wonderful evening. Next time I would use valet parking. :)

Nice ambiance for a date, birthday, dinner in general. Friendly staff and very accommodating! Coat check is outside along with complimentary bread with butter. Highly recommended the scallops and drinks. The mussels are kind of salty but the food is still good!
