A bit belated of a review, but better late than never on this Detroit gem! I love Flowers of Vietnam so much! The ambiance here is so classy, while not being overly intimidating. It still gives a warm, intimate kind of vibe, while also being clean and with a hint of personal touches as well as nods to this building's history in Detroit.I came here to dine during their New Year's Eve event, which they have been doing every year at least for the past 4-5 years that I'm aware of. The event consists of a pre fixe menu (5 courses I believe) and it always sells out, so definitely make sure to pay attention to their emails and social media for when reservations open for this. It runs $130 per person and the food is honestly so stunning and I think it's worth the money given the celebratory nature of it all.In general, Flowers of Vietnam, if you come on any other day to dine, is going to run high, price-wise. It is definitely more for special occasions and it will not disappoint. Every dish here is so delicious and they make all of them so so well! The dishes are all a multi-sensory experience of layers upon layers of different flavors, textures, and spices and are rooted in so many Vietnamese dishes, with elevated and modern flairs as well. The service here is also spectacular. On NYE, dinner took much longer (around 3.5 hours from sit down to grabbing our coats and leaving) than a normal service night. So that is definitely the exception to the rule. My friends who have been to the NYE dinner in the past as well said that typically that dinner will run at 2 hours, but I think this past NYE, they might've been a bit short staffed, but we were happy to spend quality time with one another and we still ended up finishing about 1.5 hours before midnight!Preston, the front of house manager, is genuinely one of the kindest and most delightful people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! He is so friendly, so accommodating, and so intentional - truly a master at his job and I wish every customer-facing position had a Preston! I'm glad that he is the face of Flowers and typically the first person you'll interact with when you walk in because it started and ended our experience off on such a wonderful note!Within our party, I was the only one who didn't drink, so before the dessert course, when they brought out complimentary champagne for everyone, Preston had noted that I wasn't imbibing and brought me out a non-alcoholic bubbly that Flowers had made themselves without me having to remind anyone and I was truly floored and really appreciated this thoughtfulness! It's just one of the many things that I love about Flowers, so make sure to pay this place a visit whenever you're in the area or looking to celebrate somewhere special and unique!

I've heard so many good things about this place and finally decided to come here for a special occasion. Big mistake. The "hostess"... I don't even know what to call her... was sitting at the bar chatting with customers for 6-7 minutes in full view of me, the only customer at the hostess stand. Comes over at her leisure and had an attitude from the start. I said "two please". She says "do you have reservations"? I did not after stalking their website for two hours seeing every time slot available from 8-10:30pm was open. We got here just before 9:30 after calling (no answer) and after they shut down online reservations at 9. In my time waiting at the front stand, I observed empty booths and no less than 12 people exiting. So when the "hostess" told me there is bar seating only even though there are empty clean tables EVERYWHERE, I was not thrilled. She clearly enjoys giving attitude and was happy to deny us. While I didn't want to eat here any longer due to her rude demeanor, my partner did. We sat at the bar seats (one of which she had been sitting in), and waited for one of the three bartenders to help us. They took a while. No menus, no barcodes, but when they finally came by it was service with a smile. 180 degrees from the woman/gatekeeper. Preston, our bartender/server, deserves five stars. I could not get over the miserable woman who was so unwelcoming upon our arrival. She truly ruined the mood. In the hour and a half we were there, I saw one group of three come in with reservations. ONE! The small booths we saw at check in before 9:30 remained empty until almost 10pm when I saw the "host" seat two people without reservations in one of those tables. How do I know they didn't have reservations? Because I'm five feet behind her and can hear both the customer and her conversing. The funny part is that normally I like to be seated at the bar. What I don't like is someone being rude for no reason. If you don't like people, don't be customer facing. It was very clear that she liked some people and disliked others after watching her actions.. Once we were given menus, we ordered with no issues. Preston knew what was vegan or could be made vegan. Drinks were good. Food was good. Prices were expensive, but we looked at the menu prior to dining, so that wasn't a surprise. Service after 10pm declined. The restaurant and bar was half empty. Staff seemed to disappear. Sat for maybe fifteen minutes with no water or drinks. Multiple bartenders and maybe five diners at the bar. Learned there are no vegan dessert options at all. Special occasions only we were told. Then the bill... service charge and gratuity included no matter how good (or terrible) your service is. Extra charge to use a credit card. Really? It's the cost of doing business. Maybe tell your patrons you have a gazillion surcharges BEFORE they order. One and done for me. Waste of money and time here. $160+ for one drink each and three small veggie shared dishes. Crabby front of house staff. So many better options in Detroit.

This was truly one of the very best meals I've ever eaten. The layers of flavor! The fresh quality, the presentation. Mind blowing. We drove up and it was in Mexicantown and as tourists we did not understand... all the signage was in Spanish but the neighborhood was nice and we were a little early as they open at five. We drove around, looking for the restaurant, but all we could find was a coney island and so I had to call and it turned out that's where they were. No signage. At 5 o'clock, we decided to wait outside the door, and then suddenly other people came up and a huge line developed. All Locals. That's always a good sign! We took suggestions from our wonderful waiter, and everything was amazing. They just kept bringing out course after course, and I could not tell you which one was the best because they were all truly amazing. We had giant prawns, pork belly, shaking beef and Carmelized chicken wings. Stellar. Unbelievable. This is a five star gourmet meal. I can't wait to drive five hours and go back. Highly recommend. Do something life changing! It's amazing and unique and memorable.

I LOVEEEE THIS PLACE.... I knew i was gonna love it the moment i stepped in. The hosts are super friendly and are always accommodating, ensuring that you will be seated as soon as possible. The food is seriously so crazy, i genuinely believe the food is michelin star worthy. Each time i go the food just gets better and better. I love it here so much. During the summer the outdoor dining is gorgeous and calm, it feels clean and relaxing, at the night time it's such a good vibe. Even the interior in the second corridor is BEAUTIFULLY WELL DONE. Minimalistic but with character. Highly recommend this family style dining restaurant. Everything is amazing including the cocktails!!!!

We had a two person dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy and filled. The service was average. There is an automatic 20% gratuity automatically charged that is not shown on the menu nor notified by staff. The portions were larger than average, but pricey. The taste of the food was average. I would not bother going again. The ambiance is very modern and hip.
