Great food and great service. Good options to choose from as it relates to sides like mac & cheese, dressing, candied yams etc.

we ordered cabbage, macaroni and cheese and both were salty, catfish was just ok. Not a good a first impression. Price was average for a soul food restaurant.

After traveling (25) miles to try this place it was a trip that I probably should have taken a closer place for better quality...On 7/23/2023 I drove expecting a fabulous meal but unfortunately it was a disaster I ordered (2)Half slab Bar B Q..dinners consisting with (2) sides ..one Collard Greens and Candied Yams...see pics...Ribs were extra tough...Greens were loaded with vinegar ..the Yams were the best thing in the box .... I do hope this wasn't the norm...or the same quality that was presented on Tasty Tuesday.... I do hope that there other location BarBQue isn't like what I had...disappointed greatly

I tried take outfrom this restaurant when I was in Detroit. It was really good. We had the meatloaf, catfish, & fried chicken. All the sides were delicious as well. For dessert we got the last peach cobblers. We added some vanilla ice cream when we got home and it was on and poppin. The next time I return they might be in their new Jefferson location Downtown. I'm looking forward to it.

I decided to try Detroit Soul last weekend, as I had read a few reviews of the restaurant, and wanted to try a new Soulfood restaurant that was near me. I was happy when I put the location in my GPS to see if was only 20 minutes away, straight show 8 Mile from where I live.I received an added bonus when I arrived, to see that the restaurant is right next to one of my favorite car detailing places. So that was cool! I immediately noticed going in that they had people going in and out ordering, and carrying their orders out, so I figured that was some type of sign to show the food is good.My turn off point was the service. There were two young men (one taking the orders and handling the cash register, and one boxing the orders). Neither one were overly pleasant or helpful. But I decided to go ahead and place my order to check the food out despite (My biggest pet peeve is unprofessional staff and horrible service).Anyway, I ordered the Baked Chicken, Yams and Dressing. After about 20 minutes, I received my food, and I did ask for a manager to provide my feedback of the actions of one of the young gentlemen working there. The manager stated he would address the concern. Overall, the food was good to me. The Yams weren't as sweet as I like, but still good. They Baked Chicken was seasoned good, and the Dressing was good. I can't say the food was just over the top knocked my socks off good, but good enough that I would try the restaurant again. Hopefully better service and less wait

They had very little food at east 8 mile locatio. Had very little park they a bunch of no parking signs hanging over most of the parking spots on the lot. There is a car wash attached to the building. It looked like small amount of food that they had was prepared as soon as home instead of in the restaurant, there was no food at aroma whatsoever at the restaurant. I hope that the second location that they just open is better equipped with plenty of food that you can tell was actually cooked at the business and that is someone's home. I hate leaving a review like this because it is a Soulfood restaurant, and I know that in that business it's hard being a minority and trying to run a small business. However, this location leaves a lot to the imagination..

Hubby brought home yummy delicious comfort foods tonight which was just what we needed after a long long did I say long week! We had pork chops, meat loaf catfish, Mac n cheese collard greens and yams. Everything was fresh and flavorful. My pork chop was a bit salty for my liking but not so much that it was bad. Mac n cheese and yams were my favorite. Each meal came with a large corn bread muffin. Called in the order and the food was ready when my hubby arrived after work to pick it up.

Bad Bad Bad okay mind you this was Labor Day and it was steady but slow.I placed a call in order,Turkey wing dinner turkey was dry no gravy broth dressing no flavor Mac n cheese rubber like come on.Wait for it the yams out the can the greens nasty.I tried the food in the car no sooner than 10 min later my stomach was starting to hurt I'm like wow what is this.My stomach start feeling like contractions I drove 20 min and almost had a BM in the car.My cat fish was not fried all the way.Nice gentleman cash me out but i just had a bad day for me I would not recommend or go back 55doller down the drain.Please clean the windows there big windows but filthy.

I wish I could give this place a 0 rating. I was spoken to very rude and nasty, waited an hour for the food. I went home and discovered I was given the wrong order. I'm never going back.

Possibly the best fried chicken in the city , be prepared to wait a while on your order because everything is made fresh while you wait ...but the wait is worth it , I always get the fried chicken with Mac n cheese and greens , very yummy Excellent desserts too Best Soul Food in the city
