Soul food that doesn't disappoint. I've been going here for some years. I remember when they had two locations on Telegraph. They had theee very best omelettes I've ever had. I'm so sad they stopped serving breakfast. They're just down to one location on Telegraph. Even still, it's definitely worth the trip. Anytime I have a soul food craving, this is my first thought. I love their cornbread dressing. They make it similar to mine starting with the trifecta (onions, celery, and carrots) for extra flavor. And they even give you a small side of cranberry sauce. I also love their salmon croquette appetizer. You get two croquettes but they're huge. They're served with white rice, gravy, and two baguette slices. Because I love sides, I also usually opt for the veggie plate, which is your choice of four sides. My usual go-to's are the mac and cheese, collard greens, sweet potatoes, and cornbread dressing. The wait can be long so I recommend calling ahead. You can also dine in although it seems they do more carry out here. If you're never been or had a sudden craving for soul food, definitely check them out.

I've only been once. I called for a carry-out order. He was already closed but still hooked me up. I think it was ready within 30 minutes. I ordered macaroni and cheese, green beans, a half slab and some fried chicken breasts. If i had to rate it on a scale of 1-10, I'd say a 8/9, only because a 10 would put it up there w my mama's cooking. I will be back.

Horrible, tasteless food. Dirty bathroom. I gave them another chance after being burned a few years back. Will not be returning

I spent over 50 dollars here . I ordered 2 turkey dinners with wing dinner potato salad banana pudding. It was terrible! The dressing tasted like I imagine brittle cat food would taste like. The turkey and gravy tasted like it was cooked in a dirty smoky oven! The yams were ok the Mac was Average! I called and spoke with a older lady who promised me that she would have Deangelo himself recook my order and bring it to me the sh!t never happened! And I will never eat there again!

I have been on a mission to sample the Soul Food offerings in Detroit, and for the most part I haven't had any disappointments. DeAngelo's is among the highlights of all the places I've tried. It sits nestled in alongside a liquor store on the West side of Telegraph. The inside was small, but clean. The menu was appetizing. My companion and I ordered hot wings appetizer, southern friend catfish dinner (me), and 2 pc fried chicken dinner (her). The hot wings appetizer was good. The "hot" was just Frank's Red Hot, which is fine by me - but don't expect a home made hot sauce on them. The wings were crispy and succulent, with a delicious breading under the hot sauce, and a nice big vat of Ranch on the side for dipping. The catfish was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside, and completely bone-free (it bugs me when I get stuck in the roof of the mouth by a catfish bone). The seasoning on the breading had a subdued flavor, but I think that's a big positive because I like to let the sweetness of the catfish speak for itself. The green bean side was delectable... and I know it's hard to rave about green beans. The red beans and rice had the right flavor and the cornbread was tender and muffin-sized, which is easier to eat than crumbly cake-shaped :)My companion's chicken was great - although I was only able to sample a bite because she devoured it quickly. She got the collard greens and macaroni and cheese and was impressed with both - I usually don't eat greens but my taste of them was even better than most other places - not as mushy, more flavorful - even though they cook them in a (gasp!) vegetarian manner. The mac and cheese was good but definitely eclipsed by the other delicious sides I tasted. If I have to be picky - I don't think the place is very used to having seated diners as we were the only seated table at 7pm but they were doing a brisk carry-out business. We ordered a hot wings appetizer and it came out twenty seconds before our meals... we hadn't even tried the wings yet, so something was bound to get cold before we could eat it. The only waitress doubled as the cashier, and she was very busy with the phone and handling carry-out orders, so water refills and other requests weren't handled very promptly.I will definitely be going back to DeAngelo's, and dining in... the food came out piping hot and the manager (owner?) came to our table to chat for a minute and make sure everything was done correctly. I'd recommend making the trip for anyone else who enjoys good soul food as well.

I stopped in at DeAngelo's to try it out. I love trying out home cooked soul food and local owned businesses to support the community & business owners. I went in and the place was pretty empty. Nice environment w/ soft music playing in the background. I decided to carry out since I was short on time. I looked at the menu and a very friendly cashier greeted me. She took my order, my mom's order and we also got dessert. A total of about $26 dollars. The FOOD: Wing dings, very seasoned but good. Fries, seasoned as well, tasty. Mac&Cheese, needed more seasons, but edible.Bread, hard as a rock. :(Pound cake, A1 I'm going back for more!Banana pudding, best I ever had, I'm going back for more!!!All in all, everything was pretty good & I would go back in a jiffy. I even saw DeAngelo cooking himself! I thought that was pretty cool. I would suggest you try it out!

Husband wanted soul food. We went Friday night to only find out they were closing at 8pm but the sign on the street said 9pm. BUT....we went back the next night. They don't have menus anymore. Items are noted on a dry erase board or a sheet of paper on the counter. I am saying all of this so you don't have high expectations for the ambience. BUT... the food is awesome! I had fried catfish, collard greens, candied yams and macaroni. Hubby had fried chicken, yams, greens and black eyed peas. Both meals were amazing. We got desserts to go. He had banana pudding which he said was good. I had peach cobbler which was not. BUT...it is worth the trip.

After waiting an hr for our food, they gave our food to someone else. When we spoke to the manager she offered a juice and nothing more. Nasty attitude and made it clear she been in business 15 years and cared nothing about the reviews. Poor customer service and ghetto.
