Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant

Out the gate, this stop was one of my personal highlights of having D-Style pizza in Detroit. Every single list and reviewer has this spot as a must-stop, so I had to experience it for myself. I REALLY like this pizza, and it really felt like I was eating something special finally while in Detroit. The ambiance of the restaurant and the wait staff adds to the allure and charm of the pizza. Very good service, which is so key for me, and the various classic photos and artifacts on the wall give this spot a unique vibe that gives it that blue-collar appeal. I even had the clam chowder as an appetizer (not pictured), but it's a very wide bowl, so bring your A-game appetite here. The ONLY things that hindered this spot for me giving it 5 stars is that they don't have ginger beer as a beverage option, and the sauce was just a tease. It's like a tablespoon on sauce on top for each slice, so if I return, I would ask for extra-extra sauce on the side. Other than that, I would HIGHLY recommend this spot! They close pretty early compared to other places, so you need to be inside and seated by 7p if your gonna dine in. You don't want them putting up chairs around your feast!

8-8-2024Came after a visit to St. John Ascension Hospital.We were emotionally drained but the pizza and drinks and kind service pepped us up.The deep dish is a true gem. Pepperoni only.

I took my girlfriend there for dinner and a date night a couple weeks ago, and she was absolutely loving the inside of the building and how it was laid out. This is one of my favorite pizza places and it's worth the drive. The service was great as well.

a detroit classic--haven't been here in awhile--old fashion decor which is very cool--we had a sweet bartender named chris--pizza was wonderful--great place to go--lots of parking too....

Our favorite pizza around. Cute restaurant that's been around for years. I love dining in compared to going to one of their carry out spots. The service is good. Their gluten free pizza is some of the best I've eaten. Be sure if they're busy to put your pizza or bread orders in right away especially if you're getting gluten free. They have a nice fireplace and bar area too. We will definitely be back when we want to eat our pizza somewhere other than home.

Visited today! Service was Amazing! We were waited on by Jamie! She gave us great suggestions and told us about the pizza! I was not disappointed! Jamie is a rockstar! Detroit style over Chicago style any day!! Definitely will visit again before our trip is over!

I was on a mission to find the best Detroit style pizza while visiting Detroit, MI. Thankfully, one of our colleagues who is a local suggested and treated my friends and me to Cloverleaf Bar and Pizza, it's the originator of Detroit-style pizza since 1946. This establishment was founded by Gus Guerra, who also co-owned "Buddy's", another renowned pizza place.We were fortunate enough to meet Marie, one of the owners, who informed us that they still use the original recipe while Buddy's made some alterations to theirs. Cloverleaf has remained a family-owned business for three generations and is one of the oldest pizzerias in the Detroit area.They brought us a delicious sweet and savory crunchy bread, served hot and topped with parmesan. If you never had Detroit-Style Pizza before it is known for its square or rectangular shape, thick and airy crust, and its unique layering of toppings with cheese at the bottom and sauce on top, Caramelized Cheese Edges, and flavorful crust,that has that nice crunch. We also enjoyed their award-winning meatballs, antipasto salad, and the delicious whipped cheesecake for dessert. We even got a glance at the oven that creates this magic!A big thank you to Marie and her staff for their excellent service, hospitality, and of course, the delicious food. Introduced another friend to the amazing Chicken Martini! For a light eater he sure couldn't resist nearly finishing it (I always look forward to my leftovers). Thanks again to Chef Keith and our excellent server Lisa!

I hadn't been to Cloverleaf in about 5 years but visited this past sunday. OMG, so disappointed! The prices are outrageous. Ordered a small (4 slice) pizza and it was over $15 and it wasn't that good. Also they open at noon , was there at 1pm, they had no customers on the one side of the restaurant so they weren't that busy but it still took over an hour to get my pizza. Will not be going back!!!

Jamie was a fun server! Maxe.us laugh several times. Pizza and antipasto salad never disappoint. So good! Marie took this picture and sent us home with cheesecake! Gotta love this neighborhood restaurant that has been here forever!
