First and foremost I've only Uber eats here and this is my 2nd visit!Ok, it's hard to find a good BBQ place and this is one of them! It's not those baked ribs like Famous Dave's or smoked like Billy Sims and most places! It almost give u a Nicola's taste maybe if I had to compare.The BBQ sauce for me is GREAT. It's almost identical to my family's recipe! It's not thick and it's like they know it's good because you don't get much lol Bad: there's not much sauce on the meat itself so you're gonna almost always want to order extra sauce. This bread? Baby this bread was delicious! I haven't tasted the baked sweet potato yet but I'm sure it's good as well.I've previously had rib tips. I didn't care for those. There wasn't really any meat and no sauce at all (I asked for it on the side)Now these 2 little containers were 1.25 for xtra sauce lol so let me just make that clear!

The service is friendly and makes you feel right at home. The Brussels sprouts were absolutely divine. My steak was cooked just the way I like it. I didn't get a picture but the apple pie and ice cream were the perfect end to my birthday dinner with my sweetheart. I always forget this gem is tucked away here on Mack but I will be back.

The absolute best bbq in the state. The service is top notch and the quality of everything is the way you expect it to be. Not too big not too small just the right size to enjoy some good bbq.

My first time trying this restraint and definitely my last!!! I had the shrimp and ribs, the shrimp were like the frozen ones you buy from a grocery store absolutely basic, very flat, not good at all, the ribs were horrible!! I'm not sure what cut of ribs they used but they were so fatty and so tough!! I'd take a bite then have to spit it out because it was like biting into a hunk of fat!! The only decent thing was the bread and cottage fries, the lettuce was wilted in the salad... just an overall bad experience!! I ended up throwing away 75% of the ribs cuz they were inedible and after spending 30$ including the tip I'm now going to make a bowl of cereal because I'm hungry... ain't that a B

A Mack Avenue staple for many years now Champs is one of the best places for ad-hoc family dinners. Having grown up very near to here my family frequented Champs. We've ordered out, ate in, sat on the patio for lunch dinner etc. The menu has not changed much over the years. They serve a variety of salads (I recommend the Traverse City Salad), fish, meats, etc. Hard to not find something for the picky eater in your family. I'm a hug fan of their fish and chips. It's not ground breaking, but it comes with some garlic bread and it's just one of those dishes that I miss from home. The "chips" that they serve are cottage fries. Just a little unique quirk about Champs is the cottage fries. It's nice to have these since they are not as common as your typical french fries at other restaurants. They have a 3-season patio that you can sit on. This is devine in the summers when you can enjoy the air and watch the tigers on the TV outside.There is a small bar here, but I wouldn't consider this to be the place that I'd tell my buddy to meet me at for a drink necessarily. Overall, Champs executes their menu pretty well, and to do that over so many years isn't easy. I'm comfortable with 4 stars for this childhood staple of mine.

!four of us went today to Champs for their Happy Hour Special of a Burger, with cottage fries, and a beer for $11! A great deal and great food. Server was excellent, nice atmosphere, and owner came to see if everything was okay. Will be going back.

Wish I could give this place stars!Dad loves ribs and loves champs on Mack so his friend got him a gift card. I can honestly say I'm glad we used the card up tonight. I took him there, and we will NEVER be back!! We started with 3 tables getting their drinks before we were even greeted. Okay maybe it was the waiter, nope his next table wasn't even able to sit down before he was greeting them. It didn't get any better from there. The food was horrible!!The other server had more options for her table than we were given. The ribs were still fighting with each bite we had to rip from the bones. The meat was dark on the outside and yet had not been rendered enough. They were tough to say the least. Dad choked with almost every bite.The potatoes were in his words tasteless. You know the potatoes are bad when butter and salt can't fix them. Butter I might add that didn't melt because the potatoes were warm at best, but hey they were the same temperature as the ribs. The staff seemed to hate working there. The waiter that was playing the manager didn't even check on our table. He didn't find it odd or even look at me when I was standing at the counter paying my bill when the wait 0staff cashes the checks out. We had to leave ASAP because something was NOT Gluten free despite me calling to ask, and gluten free being mentioned on the menu. We couldn't wait another 10 minutes for our waiter to bring us the check. The waiter didn't look at me while I was at the counter either. Normal wait staff would say something when their table gets up to leave early. I should have been worried when at 50 I was the youngest person eating. I can only assume their liquor license and the fact that so many other restaurants are closed on Sunday evening is why they had customers at all. It sure wasn't for the food or the service.
