Carlos Mexican Restaurant

Had a delicious street taco lunch. Was just what I needed. Perfect portion size, good rice and beans with a basket of chips and a couple of tasty salsas. I don't live in the area, and it was my first visit. I'd come back without hesitation if I was in the neighborhood again.

Ordered the birria taco meal. Tacos were flavorful and juicy but the "juice" seemed to be more fat and ran all over. (Load up on napkins)Rice was just OK - beans were good. Salsa was a little heavy on the seasoning but that's just personal preference. I realized as we were leaving the cook was right outside the entry door smoking heavily. Smoke was overwhelming. Had he been there when I arrived we would not have gone in. Still - food was passable.

The food was bland, meats dry steak over cooked despite the request of how to make it. The worst of all was the veggie Mexican pizza lacked flavor. Largely cut carrot rounds, zucchini, broccoli and cauliflower all tasted boiled topped with cheese. Not what you'd expect from a Mexican pizza or restaurant. The traditional tacos rice and beans are the reason for the 2 stars, but overall lack of flavor was the repeated theme for all 9 of us.

Great lunch prices, quick and good food. They no longer have the tostada lunch special tho- would have to buy ala carte or dinner option.

It was lunch time so I was hungry but they definitely shorted me on my tacos. I was looking for the crispy fried tacos and i definitely couldn't tell they were fried at all. It was no Mexican cheese or onions on my tacos and they gave me 2 small salsas. There is a nice girl who works there but just kinda short when she's speaking . I wish they would take the time to make the food how it used to be made. However they had very nice artwork and masks on the walls

Spare yourself. Too many problems. No limes for the traditional steak with lime, onion, and cilantro tacos.... Server delivered this news when they brought the food....with a LEMON. Are you for real? Isn't it your job to know this?Server never checked on food after drop off. We had to leave the table to get sever to bring us the check & take our plates, and again to take up the card. Her phone was too engrossing for her to care about our experience. They were not busy at all... We were the ONLY TABLE. This is completely within her control and inexcusable. Rice was flavorless and terrible. Food wasn't remarkable. Gristle in steak taco. Lunch specials are all more expensive than menu. There is a note on menu that prices changed. They did indeed, by about 20%. Serving for price is ridiculous. Please, you deserve better. Go somewhere else.

Was looking for good birria tacos close to me for a while. Just tried them here, they were very good! Definitely going to be a regular costumer now.

Some of the best mexican food I have had, fish & shrimp tacos/quesadelia are to die for. Rice & beans are out of this world. Lemonade is on point. If you want good food for a good price I highly recommend

Don't let the old reviews stop you from coming here. I wasn't coming, myself, for a long time. We started visiting Carlos' regularly, 20 years ago or more. We loved the place, and ate there regularly. We were so disappointed, when the place changed hands. The food wasn't 'bad', but it was bland. We tried again, and it was the same. We never went back. We've been going to Mexicantown, ever since. Today, seeing it was still open, we tried Carlos' again, after several years. We were very happy to find that the food was really tasty! I had three street tacos: asada, chorizo, and pollo, with beans and rice. Everything was delicious! My wife ordered a combo plate with a chimichanga, tostada, beans and rice. She said she was happy with everything, as well! It's a small, modest, family place, with good food. The service was good, and the people seem very nice. They're doing a great job! We'll be going back, soon. :)

It's a big No for me, worse Mexican food I ever tasted, I grew up in Mexican Village and ate authentic Mexican food, this food sucks , will not go there again, salsa like water, no flavor on the food, tails on shrimp it a flat out NO for me and the price was to high. And the beef was horribly tough.
