I've been going to Cairo a lot since it opened so this review is based on lots of time spent there, not one visit. Monica, the owner, is def the heart of the joint. She's super friendly and very tapped into what's happening in the city. An unexpected surprise is that I've learned a whole lot about coffee. She lets me ask all kinds of dumb questions and never made me feel like I was bugging her. It's kind of turned me into a coffee snob though lol. I've learned what it means to appreciate coffee from thoughtful roasters brewed by someone who knows what they're doing. In terms of the vibe, I like the mix of people. A lot of other joints only cater to "New Detroiters." There's a lot of that's here too, but you'll also see a lot of people from the neighborhood (Eastern Market), Saavy Chic's long-time clients (the boutique Cairo is in), local artists, corporate dudes, etc. In a city that often feels super disconnected, it's nice to see so many different types of Detroiters here. Detroit is changing so fast, and there's new places opening all the time. The result of all that newness can distract from nailing down which are the cool joints and which are quality. Cairo Coffee is both.

This is a really cool and large space for a coffee shop. They have a ton of seating, so you don't really have to be worried about there not being enough space. They play great music and are actually attached to a vinyl shop. The staff is incredibly nice, when I was there last time, they gave us free donuts and were really friendly. The coffee is great, but they don't have a ton of options to select from, both for the coffee and the pastries. Also, I wouldn't recommend working out of here, as the music can be pretty loud, but it's absolutely a great place to come and hang out with friends.

This is a nice little coffee / trinket shop next to the eastern market. It has a small seating area in the back, and serves organic responsibly-raised fair-trade coffee. I wanted to like the place more. I appreciate the "mom and pop" atmosphere and the kind folks who work there. The coffee was ok. Something was missing ...Not sure I'll be back, given that there are other similar business in the area.

Loved the ambiance and the baristas were so sweet and personable! I got a latte and the milk was very frothy and creamy. My friends ordered the Qahwah, which came in adorable little cups. Qahwah is coffee with cardamom. It was very fragrant and a cool twist to try. I enjoyed my time at Cairo would definitely go back!

First of all, Cairo Coffee looks LOVELY! It's inside of a boutique and it's just a super cute place. I will be back probably because of the interior decor alone. There is not a lot of seating room but there are a couple small tables in the corner.I got an almond milk latte and it was pretty good. Strong, slightly creamy and not acidic. I'm docking two stars because the ladies working here weren't very friendly. They were a bit...standoffish, let's say. Maybe it was an off day. Also if I'm sitting down at a table, I prefer an actual cup and not a to go cup.

Such a cute and tasty, locally owned shop. The iced latte had a deep, rich taste and the date cookie...wow! Delicious. Don't miss this place when you visit Eastern Market!

This coffee shop is alright. Coffee selections are very limited as well as the seating and pastries. It's connected to a accessories store so it's not just coffee. Coffee itself is pretty good. I had the cappuccino and it was okay.

So I've only been once, but I have to say... I've been to a ton of coffee shops around the Detroit Metro area and I've never had a better iced coffee than the one I got here. It was so incredibly smooth and lacked the boldness of a cold brew that is typically too much for me to handle. I will definitely return for more.
