I haven't lived in southeast MI for over a decade and constantly miss quality middle eastern food (particularly a shish tawook sandwich). Casablanca's shish tawook was perfection, I did a little happy dance with that first bite! We also tried their hummus, homemade bread, fattoush salad, lamb tagine, Moroccan coffee (my husband said it was one of the best things he's ever tasted), and several sweets. I highly recommend this restaurant!"

I opted for the falafel bowl and my husband got the steak bowl. Both were filling and we loved all of the vegetables and pickled sides that came with. We thought the falafel was better than the steak, so will be sure to order more falafels next time. There will definitely be a next time - we can't wait to come back!"

They couldn't stop complimenting how good it was, and they ate it up quick! It was a very busy Friday evening, and I had left without grabbing part of my takeout order. I called to let them know, and Sam sent a guy to my house to deliver it! I even offered to come back and get it, but he insisted. Just goes to show that these guys really care for their customers. "We got the lamb soup, chicken and beef, and mango smoothie to go.The lamb soup kind of tasted like beans and lentil soup of sorts, I was expecting more lamb flavor to it.Of the chicken and beef combo platter, I liked the chicken more; it was flavorful and tender. On the other hand, beef was a little harder to chew on.Mango smoothie has subtle hints of spices added to it, which I like of the flavor. But the smoothie was just a little too sweet for me and I had to water it down a bit."

Stacy K. "We found this place a month or so ago while visiting the bookstore next door. We decided to make our way back here to try the food. It was absolutely delicious. I believe this space is in the space of the former Caribou Coffee, which I miss! It is a cute, rustic space, nicely decorated. It looks like a Pita Way with the assembly line of ingredients, but I am not sure if you can design your own bowls and sandwiches. The people working here seemed pleasant. It is a bit expensive for a mostly carry-out place, but we decided to eat here.I had the cauliflower. I got the small. It was so flavorful and delicious. It had a nice spice and I believe tahini on top. It tasted like something my child brought home and I had been craving, so I am glad I found a place nearby that serves it. My only regret was not getting the larger portion because even though I did end up with leftovers, I would have wanted more leftovers. I tried their loaded fries with chicken. It was amazing. The fries were so crispy and the sauce, cheese, pickles, onions, and chicken just added so much. I am craving it right now. I need to go back and get more. We tried their Shesh burger. It was actually so nicely done, with a tasty BBQ char flavor. We did try a sandwich, but my husband felt it was not as good as other places. The soup was nice and hot, could have been thicker, but had a good flavor. Still, it was good but the loaded fries and cauliflower is where it's at, at this place. I would get a carry-out of just those."

It was very aromatic and the lamb was tender and a nice size for the main dish. The service was top tier and the server was very attentive. Cory C. "I used to come here periodically with work friends for lunch when I worked in the area. It was a great place to get inexpensive, yet delicious, chicken shawarma sandwiches. While they're still delicious, they're unfortunately no longer inexpensive: it used to be $3.99, but they upped to $6.99 last time I went, almost double the price! The chicken meat is flavorful and tender. It had a good proportion of chicken to pickles and lettuce. I asked for garlic sauce on side, which I appreciate them accommodating. I like that their garlic sauce isn't too strong tasting, like I've had at some other places. I also got a side of rice with slivered almonds: sadly, it was not as good and flavorful as it was in the past, but still pretty good. $5 is definitely too expensive for it, however. My friend ordered a side of hummus, which came in a little plastic sauce cup and they charged $2.99 for it! It was decent, but I've had better hummus elsewhere. I think prices aren't as reasonable as they used to be, but the food is still good overall. Their fresh baked bread is also delicious!"

Started with the starter combo (hummus, baba ghanouj and tabouli), medium fatoosh salad less pita, 3 chicken kafta skewers, a medium fatoosh salad with chicken. They have a Nicole's special with veggies and feta, nice. They don't have the bread oven here, so just the bagged pita, we can't have it right now anyways, no temptation for us. The woman waiting on us is nice, warm and friendly. The other staff members are friendly too. They have a lot of bamboos around the windows. The starter combo looks good. It tastes pretty good, the hummus, baba ghanouj and tabouli. One customer came in without a mask to pick up his order, not a word to him at all about not having on a mask. Hmm. The fatoosh looks good as well. It's fresh and good, dressing is good as well. Some salad butts in your mix though, not a big fan. The chicken kafta is quite dry, tastes decent, could also use a bit more flavoring for me, as it was a tad bland bite for bite. The kebabs were a nice size. The chicken with the fattoush salad was quite good, the meat was juicy and nicely flavored too. The service is good here. The salads, starter combo were all good. The chicken kafta needed a bit more flavoring and less time on the grill."

It was late on a Sunday night. On our way home from an event in downtown Detroit and not many places are open but we went along van Dyke Road and I remembered Ike's. lucky for my memory, because it turned out to be one of the most awesome restaurants we could have stopped at along the way. I decided to try something different and off of the vegetarian menu I ordered Mjadra which is a lentil dish and was absolutely delicious if you like lentils. It came with soup salad, and always pita bread. I selected the lentil soup to go along with my lentil dinner, and it was a lemon lentil soup, which was unique. For the salad, you get many choices, and I chose tabouli. The servings were huge so needless to say I had plenty of food to carry out and eat the next day for a meal. My friend ordered the smothered chicken dinner, and he got the beef barley soup and a salad with raspberry vinaigrette, which he said was one of the tastiest raspberry vinaigrette dressings he's ever had So all in all, we had a wonderful experience, and walked out of there with full bellies and a big carry out bag. James L. "During my recent trip to Michigan, I discovered that the Detroit Metro area has the largest concentration of Arabic speakers with 4.7% of population aged 5 to adult primarily speaking Arabic at home (https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/05/18/5-facts-about-arabic-speakers-in-the-us/#:~:text=The%20Detroit%20metro%20area%20also,1.0%25%20of%20the%20total%20population.). As such, there was a plethora of excellent restaurants to select from offering Middle Eastern cuisine, one of the best of which was Asya.As is my penchant, when visiting a new city I pop open my trusty Yelp app for places to try and Asya was one of the first recommendations; it doesn't hurt that some of the locals also said they serve up tasty food.Located in a strip mall off the intersection of a busy road, the parking lot is tight, so if there are no spots directly in front of the restaurants, there is more availability off to the side.I stopped by a few times while I was in town, and Asya does a brisk take-out business, especially during the predictable lunch and dinner hours. I dined in both times, so I could enjoy my meal hot and "fresh from the kitchen." The interior is fairly nondescript with tile flooring, black tables/chair combos, and a neutral color palate. But because the dining room is "cozy," it can definitely get loud with just a few tables of hungry diners. The service and hospitality are superior, as to be expected from a family run establishment. I was always greeted with a warm smile and even after just a few visits, the staff seemed to recognize me. I really like the fact that for most of their entrees, you can order either a lunch or dinner portion. The shish kafta was an AMAZING deal at $12.99 at lunch. In addition to the main dish, it is served with either a salad or soup. I opted for the lentil soup, and it was tasty. Soft lentils were stewed in a creamy base and served with a bowl of individually wrapped pita slices. Honestly, I was already getting a bit full after just the soup course. Then the generous portion of the shish kafta arrived and I could only finish 1/2 of the plate, before taking the remaining portion home for dinner. The skewered meat patties were nicely seasoned with grated yellow onion, garlic, parsley, finely chopped mint, salt/black pepper, Sumac, cinnamon, as well as other spices. They were grilled just enough to have a nice char on the exterior, yet still remain moist. Instead of French Fries, I opted to have the yellow rice which was perfect for making mini-sandwiches with the leftover pita slices from my soup. To finish the meal, I had a few pieces of the house made baklava, which was flaky and not too sweet; perfect with my afternoon coffee. On another occasion, I also got the chicken shawarma, which again, was a bargain at $6.50 (before tax) and super filling with a side of fries. There are also many good Middle Eastern restaurants in the DC area, but not the variety of "mom and pop" places like Asya and definitely not at their price point and value."
