"I truly love a reliable strip mall sushi place and Sapporo is just that.If I ever have an errand I have to do in the area, I make it a point to work in a visit here. It's off John R. Road, which I have a theory that that road is a lay lie for excellent food. I have been there four times now or so. I choose them over other fast/casual or fancy spots, especially for lunch as they have excellent lunch specials.Is the sushi the best I have ever had? No, but it is the best I've found in the metro Detroit area for the price. The last time I went, I think the shrimp and the tuna were a little meh, but the Esocolar and Salmon were excellent. They accidentally gave me the chicken katsu when I was there last and I ate it while waiting for my sushi special. I would put their katsu against Ima Izakaya, for half the price, it was at least as good. Their tempura, seaweed salad, and miso are all very good and they have a good house sake as well as Japanese beers. Kampai!"

The food was excellent and plentiful, also loved the (complimentary) banchan: fish cakes, kimchi, marinated cucumbers, cabbage salad, green dish (mustard greens?--forgot to ask). I really loved the cucumbers and cabbage salad! Kimchi was a little fishy for my taste.Since I've never been my friend decided to order a ton of different foods, so I could try a lot of different things, and she could have leftovers. I started with the Gun Man Doo (dumplings) and Seaweed Salad. The dumplings were delicious, really liked the sauce that comes w it too! The seaweed salad was too fishy for my taste--maybe too much fish sauce? My friend ordered the Gyeran Jjim (Steamed Eggs), which is like a fluffy mound of scrambled eggs. Yum! She ordered Galbi (marinated beef short ribs)--that flavor!!--and Budae Jeongol (soup w a variety of meats in it) which was way too spicy for me. I'm a wimp! And I ordered the seafood bibimbap and LOVED it. You get tiny shrimp, scallops, mussels, and octopus in every bite, and the flavors were subtle and delicious. Perfect dish for a freezing cold night! Just be sure to stir the rice after they set the pot down, so it doesn't burn on the bottom! We were stuffed by the end of the meal, and my friend had lots of leftovers to take home! Would definitely recommend and will definitely go back!! My friend also order"

"So so good. I came here for lunch with friends and family and had such a great experience. Staff was friendly and prompt and the pictures in the menu were very helpful. We had the shrimp dumplings to start which were so tasty! Then all of us got the beef bibimbap and it was amazing. The chopped mushrooms were my favorite along with the crunchy rice at the bottom of the hot bowl. I would go back here in an instant."

On the menu, in 8 pt text it states, all parties MAY BE subject to a 20% gratuity. So.. this restaurant chooses to whom they think will not tip. I'd like to make it crystal clear that unless a party of 6 or more where maybe more work at a table is required, a tip is voluntary & complementary. A guest is only entitled and legally responsible for their bill. We were seated quickly and handed menus. The wait for service was about 20mins. We ordered and the food came out quickly. Sadly, not given utensils. Not greeted. No run over. Imagine fast food on speed with our initial hi, what can I get you. Luckily, I know how the restaurant works so I explained to the table. The dining room had about 5 occupied tables & 3 servers. We weren't checked on voluntarily ever but we did use the call button for obvious needs... rice, utensils, more sauce.. etc. Things started moving fast for other tables once the women came on the clock although they weren't assigned to our table. We asked for sugar for the tea and they not the cafe had sugar. Nor bottled water for purchase. We left with our bellies full and that's all that matters. I'm traveling through so I won't be returning and even if I lived here, nope... I wouldn't come back. The automatic add of gratuity, although I did ask for them to remove it & they did, rubbed me the wrong way. Nopeity, nope nope."

One of the top ranking public universities in the USA.Being a big college town, the immediate area is basically made up of four smaller districts: Kerrytown to the northwest, and home to Zingerman's Deli; Main Street district to the west, filled with inventive restaurants, creative cocktail bars, music venues, and art galleries; State Street district to the immediate west, for those who love historic architecture, theater and music performances, world-class art, shopping, and fine dining; and South University District located to the south and to the east of the campus, the classic "college town" neighborhood, perfect for strolling, picnics, and pictures (it's home to one of the world's best law libraries and was a venue contender for the Harry Potter Films!)Rich JC is an unsuspecting local favorite. This diner converted Korean restaurant has no table seating. It only has diner counter and stools so it's not ideal for larger parties. It is ideal for hungry students wanting a quick meal.The menu is limited, but covers all your basic Korean dishes, from appetizers to meat entrees, rice dishes, noodle entrees, and soups. I don't mind a limited menu, so long as what they limit it to is made well.We went with Bi Bim Bop, Dolsot Bul Go Gi, and a Kimchi Jigae. Bi Bim Bop. This was pretty standard fare. The veggies were pickled, but not overbearingly sour. The bul go gi was thin and tender and tasted exactly as it should. Not disappointing, but not spectacular either. 3 stars.Dakot bul go gi. This is essentially bul go gi beef marinated in bul go gi sauce, with mixed fried veggies, all over a bed of rice in a hot stone pot. The stone is heated up to 450F so will create a nice crusty layer of rice at the bottom. Traditionally, this dish is accompanied with a small bowl of soup broth to allow you to soften the crusty rice so that you can lift it from the bowl and consume it tasting the roasted flavor of the rice. Like the Bi Bim Bop, the Dolsot Bul Go Gi didn't disappoint, but didn't wow either. It's exactly as it should be. 4 stars.Kimchi Jigae. This is a spicy Korean ramen soup. The dish is served in a cast iron pot and served with a bowl of rice, and some picked vegetables on the side. The broth was nice and spicy as expected and came piping piping hot! This is a good winter dish that will warm you to the bone on those chilly winter nights. Flavor-wise, the soup was quite good and the spicy pepper broth did not fall short on the chili pepper. The kimchi was a nice additional kick as well adding complexity to the already spicy dish. 4 stars.Overall, Rich JC is a no-nonsense Korean Joint serving so homemade dishes. I get the feeling that some recipes have been modified to North American tastes and tolerances, but the modifications may also be due to the difficulty in getting some ingredients. The price is on par with what I'd expect to spend in College town and so is the atmosphere and vibe. I'm a fan.The next time I'm back here I'll definitely be trying the Rich Gal Bi. Gal Bi would have rounded out all my usual suspects, but alas I don't have the appetite I used to. A fourth dish would have been way too much for us. Their menu has all the traditional Korean soups, bibimbop, meats and stir fry options. We started with the seafood pancake appetizer which was a little thick for my taste and didn't have as much seafood as I've had at other places. Their galbi tang was amazing! Broth was very rich and you can tell it was cooked over time. Loaded with radish, short rib and sweet potato noodles. Comes in a big portion. The spicy squid was cooked tender and juicy. Not super spicy which was perfect for me."

"This local sushi spot does not disappoint. They are located in a plaza on square lake and Livernois. The inside isn't very big and they seem to do more takeout than dine in for the past few years. Prices are reasonable. I only order the veggie rolls. Avocado, AAC, sweet potato tempura, and a shiitake one that isn't on the DoorDash or take out menu. I've had the salad before but the ginger dressing was watery and so I wouldn't recommend that. Overall, great takeout sushi option IMO."

"This has to be one of my favorite dining experiences of 2024 - I had been to get take out wings from here before but then I found out that they added a little seated section so I had to try it! Firstly the ambiance in here is fun and eclectic, with authentic knick knacks and posters from South Korea I believe. They have a QR code when you enter to be added to their waitlist and seem to follow having tables sit for a max of 90 min I think to keep things moving. When we came in on a Tuesday evening it was pretty busy but we had a cocktail around the corner and came back within 30 min of waiting. The service in here is great, there is a bell to ask for your waiter on your table and each chair (no backs so watch out if you have any back issues) is like an ottoman so you can put your stuff inside it which is clever and space saving!When we sat down they brought over some sort of complimentary cold noodle in tomato ? Type sauce that was really tasty! Then we ordered a few things - the japchae was amazing as was the rice and the magic fries and the bulgogi! Korean cuisine isn't my favorite but the flavors here were so on point and tasty that I would definitely love to come back here as it's a total vibe! Even the drinks we got were tasty too!In case there is a wait it is convenient to go to Weiss or whiskey foxtrot for a cocktail while waiting!"

Everything we had was delicious, fresh and wonderfully prepared I tried so hard to remember what we had and I think I got on most of them in the caption, but we started with egg rolls and dumplings. "I haven't been here in a while and stopped in after work. I tried the Spicy Kung Pao Chicken with medium heat/ spice and it was so delicious! The sauce was nice and peppery giving a nice zing and complementing the flavors of the diced celery, water chestnuts and zucchini perfectly! I love celery and water chestnuts in my chop suey type dishes, the crunch and texture are so satisfying. There were also peanuts in the dish for more crunchy goodness. I had white rice and a spring roll which comes with dinner. The service is always welcoming and attentive at the right times. Isabella was my server tonight and was very gracious as always. I wanted to try their cucumber salad but unfortunately they were out of it. Next time for sure ! The restaurant is spacious and very clean, staff are never idle and clearing tables, wiping down surfaces. They have a sushi bar/ chef as you enter but no chairs to sit there, otherwise you'd be in the way of traffic, drivers picking up orders and right next to the door. Another thing I love is their Jasmine/ green tea, it's comforting and tasty straight up. It was served in a beautiful ceramic cup, no handle, which was easy to hold and warm my hands as well! I highly recommend this restaurant for different cuisine: sushi, hibachi, Asian, Teriyaki, Thai dishes that are very flavorful and satisfying! This place is a great, the rolls are a very generous size with fresh fish. The size of each piece of fish on top of each roll was a nice size chunk. The prices can't be beat, the last time we were there we got 6 rolls for $45. You can't beat that, I do wish we didn't live so far away, but I guess it takes it a nice little treat. "As much as I love Japanese and Korean food, I am surprised that I haven't discovered this place earlier. I have been to the neighboring Lai Lai numerous times in the past, but never ventured into this gem. It was only on a recommendation from one of the workers at the nearby Galleria Market that I decided to check this restaurant out, and I am very happy that I did.I decided for my first visit at lunchtime to order a bowl of what my friends in Tokyo call the epitome of Japanese Soulfood: Oyakodon. This is a donburi (rice bowl), that features cooked chicken, egg, and onion on sticky rice. The name, literally means "parent-and-child rice bowl," and derives from the use of chicken (parent) and egg (child). Just about every city in Japan has a restaurant in their neighborhood that serves this dish. Usually, Oyakodon is made with dark meat from the thighs, but at Sushi Dabu they use white breast meat from the chicken, which gives it a much different taste. This is also true of other Japanese entrées they serve. I also noticed the meat was slightly dry, but my taste buds discovered that the dashi used to make the Oyakodon was lacking in flavor. So I asked the owner for a salt shaker to give it a boost. From what I was able to gather, the owners at Sushi Dabu believe in making their food as healthy as possible, using low sodium and no flavor enhancers. This would make completely sense, and is a heart-smart approach to cooking, which promotes a healthy living lifestyle. With that being said, they only offer Kikkoman Low Sodium soy sauce at the tables, which they use in their cooking methods. Finally, the interior of the restaurant is very clean, which also includes the bathrooms. Likewise, the new owners now serve sake, beer, and other alcohol products. Honestly, this is a place you can take your family, friends, and coworkers to for an enjoyable meal.The next time I go back, I am going to check out their sushi, and other entrées. Their Korean menu looks amazing! Honestly, how can you go wrong with a bowl of bibimbap!?"

This place, serves the most amazing Korean dishes that leave me wanting MORE! Their Korean fried chicken is the stuff that dreams are made of. Just enough spiciness, sweetness and tanginess to have you weak in the knees. Their bulgogi is delicious and seasoned just right. The bimbimbap in a stone bowl comes out piping hot and creates the crunchy crust of rice at the bottom. The restaurant itself is in a modest strip mall close to IKEA. Not fancy but WOW the food! Our server has seen us twice already and both times greeted us like we were some friends of his visiting from college. Very familiar and comfortable. The kimchi is amazing, as one would hope, as that is the namesake of the restaurant. Go there and try them out today!"

"The amount of food you get for the money is insane I have long been a fan of Sushi House so I decided to check out their sister restaurant. I've been twice in the past three weeks, that in itself says a lot. Both times I've ordered the same thing, I'm not sure what that says about me. The Seafood pancake is so good someone should write a poem or a song about it. In addition to being all crunchy and filled with scallions and seafood, it's HUGE! Take the leftovers over home and reheat them in the toaster over. Perfect snack. I also had the tofu stew with seafood. Both times I asked for hot but the second time they delivered. I was in heaven chowing down on all the little side dishes with my nose running. Note to self: ask for extra napkins. Yes, they pour tea in the left over rice in the stone bowl, deal with it. It's not like you were going to eat it anyway. As far as people griping about take out, come on, can you imagine how much work it is to package 1800 separate little boxes of side dishes? Just eat in like a civilized human being. And if you interpret the language barrier as being rude, well then it's on you. This place is a gem and deserves to be appreciated. "Decided to try a new restaurant for sushi and I'm so glad I decided to go to Kabuki! The restaurant is "seat yourself" and the staff was pleasant and welcoming. Our waitress were very attentive and gave recommendations on the menu. I ordered the miso soup which was so good I forgot to take a picture and the I love shrimp roll. I added cucumber in my roll and I definitely recommend! Everything was fresh, the restaurant was clean, and most importantly the food was delicious. You order from the front and given a number tag. Once your food is ready, they bring it out to the table.
