While I've been to Scrambled, the restaurant in the same building as Demetri's, this was my first visit to Demetri's Greek Restaurant but it won't be my last. To be honest, I had quite forgotten about this restaurant, but we had a very good dinner tonight so I will remember it next time.We didn't have a reservation but we were seated right away. The dining room is spacious, I saw several large parties in private rooms, and nicely decorated with the traditional blue and white colors. We had complimentary bread, and we ordered the obligatory saganaki, which is always fun. I ordered the gyros plate and added Greek fries. It came with a side salad, white was fresh and crisp and I loved that the pieces were chopped small. My gyros came practically exploding off the plate. The gyro meat was cut thick and was juicy and tasty. The fries were so crisp and delicious and generously sprinkled with feta. I don't eat a lot of gyros but this was a dish that I would order again. My friend had egg lemon soup and skirt steak, accompanied by potatoes and veggies. The skirt steak was nicely seasoned and cooked. We finished with baklava, which was a little different than I'm used to, stuffed with nuts and redolent of cinnamon, not too sweet. While I prefer a more flaky phyllo version, this was a nice finish to the meal. Our service was great, our food was delicious Greek favorites, and we had a very nice meal.

Food is OK. Expensive for a Greek restaurant! What I have even more is the 3% they tax you for paying via a card. Also, the waiter complained too much! Why should I care?Never going there again! They are dead to me!

we tried demetri's for the first time this friday and although i still believe that greek town restaurants are a hard act to follow, demetri's was fairly good.we were cordially greeted by our host and seated in a cheerful and spacious dining room. water was delivered quickly along with a loaf of warm bread. we ordered saganaki (delicious), grilled octopus, as recommended by our server--greek salad, vegetarian moussaka, and greek meatballs.the food was very good, and main entrees were delivered to table hot. the salad was crisp, cold and was dressed with plenty of oregano (a fav). our water was refilled without asking and our server was helpful and knowledgeable. demetri's is a restaurant to try, if you don't want to make the (very) long trek down to halsted in chicago.

There are a few Greek or Greekish places around here. But this is the real deal, complete with an Orthodox icon corner and hot Greek staff. Beefcake and gyros!Thirsty comments aside, the food here is amazing. In fact, maybe a bit too amazing. Starting off with bread and butter sounds simple and boring enough but I guarantee one hasn't had better tableside bread and butter anywhere before. By the time I realize I need to leave room for food, it's too late! They're irresistible. So, just like the corpulent diner à la Monty Python, I throw caution to the wind and sumptuously enjoy saganaki, gyros, and whatever caught my fancy that night. And unlike many, many neighboring establishments, this one has stood the test of time. While other names come and go, this remains as a stalwart pillar of local epicurean joy.

The ambiance at this restaurant is definitely traditional Greek which I happen to like, I'm not always in for the fancy high class looking restaurant, and what's important here is the food which is absolutely fantastic. Especially The Grove calamari is exceptional. I personally go for a main course of fish so mainly whether it's Whitefish or salmon I get a Grecian Style. They also have outdoor dining which is very nice during the Spring through fall seasons. And the service is very good despite the fact they can be very busy at times. Sam the owner and his three sons do it excellent job at maintaining traditional Greek dishes. You should definitely find this place one of your favorite for Greek dining. Bon appetit.

It was the most foul-smelling and tasting lamb I have ever eaten. Three 8 person tables for this party, and nobody touched the lamb at any of the tables for a reason. The servers are handing you plates in your hand and expecting you to swap them the dirty plate sitting in front of you on the table. The greek salad was bland with just olive oil as the dressing. The chicken with some thick snot like sauce that looks like it came out of a sewer. You should be ashamed. Yesterday was the second time I was here and only because it was a birthday party. Imagine choosing this restaurant to celebrate your birthday and they spit in youy's and your guests face? Horrible food, horrible service, and overall an ugly restaurant.UPDATE: The owner Sam saw the above review and contacted the host of the party asking him who left this review and to take it down. Let that sink in. I had no problem calling Sam and telling him everything above and more. The most interesting part was when I brought up the lamb smelling stinky and tasting old. He said, "we COOK it fresh," and I said "yea but it's probably been sitting raw in your refrigerator for two weeks," and there were several seconds of awkward silence. I even acknowledged that silence as meaning i probably have it about right. Sam, as much as you seemed to dislike me leaving a review and calling me a "smart a$$ trying to take your business down" I think it is just difficult for you to hear the truth. And this is America, I can have an opinion about your stinky old lamb. I am glad you can boast on the phone for being in business for 20 some years and maybe the food used to be good. Or maybe yesterday was an off night, or you missed a shipment of fresher lamb and had to use lamb sitting in the freezer for a couple of months. I dont know. But the truth is the truth, and hopefully, your ego, which seems so big, can be put aside for the sake of the quality of your food and service. You told me never to come to your restaurant again and I told you I wouldn't eat there if it was free and I was starving. Then you hung up on me.But imagine having the owner of the restaurant call the host of the party to figure out who left the bad review. That is more desperate and pathetic than any 2 month frozen but "fresh cooked" lamb. Makes me think what his Yelp rating would be if he didn't bully people about negative reviews. Greek food is truly delicious. There are many places to find it in. It is NOT Demetri's. And if you are thinking about hosting a party there, hopefully your guests don't leave a review or Sam the owner will come calling you.

Catering Fail! I like Demetri's. I have been an eat-in and take out customer for many years. That's why, without any further shopping, I arranged with Demetri's to provide dinner for 100+ people at our home for a big party. We discussed our plans with owner Sam. Sam instructed us to provide the guest count and menu selection 7 days before the event. "Catering" consisted of preparing and bringing the food. No set up or serving. With RSVP's in, we contacted Sam 10 days before the event. That's when he told us he couldn't help us. Sam said he "didn't have anyone to deliver the food." Our home is 2 miles or about 10 minutes from the restaurant and delivery was for 4PM. Neither far away or at their busiest time. All of this was discussed when we first contacted Sam. With 100 guests arriving in 10 days and no food provider, we quickly pivoted and found a Greek restaurant that was happy to accept our $2200 order. But it was heart stopping and disappointing that our locally owned, a favorite and small business, Demetri's Greek Restaurant, let us down for our big event.

It was a really good Greek restaurant. It seemed like home cooking. The service was friendly. My only wish was a bigger choice of Greek foods. It still was very good.

GYes. I liked it. The food was good, the fish was fresh, the service accommodating. But, we had a 6:30 reservation. The place was PACKED! With super seniors. By 7 it was mostly empty. I'm older as well. Come for the food. The "scene" doesn't exist.
