I discovered De Mar's because it's a couple of blocks from my optometrist. I love the atmosphere. It's an old school diner and it brings nostalgia. There's street parking in front of the restaurant and on the side. Plenty of seating and the restaurant is bigger than it first appears. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly. Overall, the food is good but I'll never order the grits again. The skillet was delicious. We were a party of four and everyone liked their food. Yes I will eat here again.

De Mar's in Blue Island, IL is a must-visit for anyone in the mood for classic American diner fare. The restaurant has a cozy, old-school feel that instantly transports you to a simpler time. Every time I sit down in a booth it makes me feel like i can talk about nothing, (a Seinfeld reference). The menu is full of classic diner dishes, from hearty breakfast options to juicy burgers and sandwiches to homemade soups and salads. I particularly enjoyed the Tuna melt, which was perfectly put together with just the right amount of cheese and tune on white bread. The French toast was also excellent, with a soft and fluffy texture that melted in my mouth. But if you want the traditional, just order the all American breakfast, 2 sunny side up eggs with hash browns and two slices of bread, along with a cup of coffee. Everything is delicious. The staff at De Mar's are friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. They were quick to offer suggestions on what to order and were always on hand to refill drinks or answer any questions. The restaurant itself is clean and well-maintained, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. There is plenty of seating, so you won't have to wait long to be seated, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and service. Overall, I highly recommend De Mar's to anyone looking for a traditional American diner experience. So if you are in the area of Blue Island this restaurant It's a gem, that I plan on returning to in the future.

Food was hot and fast. The grits nor eggs had seasoning. I asked for pancakes with blueberries but instead a blueberry sauce was poured over top of my pancakes. It was really sweet but otherwise I liked the breakfast with a little doctoring.

Great food and good company. We have only visited for breakfast over the years and the service was good each time except for once, but the worker was newer and didn't quite know the menu prices, so we were overcharged a bit, but we have been back for breakfast.

A longtime establishment in Blue Island. De Mar's has been around since 1950 so it's a favorite of a lot. It has a lot of history yet it doesn't feel as old as it it because it's been kept up pretty well. Has a pretty basic diner menu. There's been a few updates including the installation of slots. Basic diner food. It has about what you expect here. There's not that much vegetarian. Especially at breakfast. Lunch and dinner bring a few better choices though. I came in later and first got coffee. It's $2.50 a cup. This certainly isn't anything special but it helps to wake someone up. As for the food I struggled to find something. Then I settled on the Veggie Wrap. It's $9.95 and comes with a side and soup. There's no vegetarian soups though. Oh well, I took it to go for someone who would feel better. The Veggie Wrap isn't bad though. It's mostly broccoli. There's also carrots and peppers. It doesn't come with any cheese. There's also not any sauce. Balsamic vinaigrette works good on it. The rest of the menu is typical diner stuff like burgers and pancakes. Fine place for cheap eating. It's not that amazing but they do good at what they make. The food is okay but they could have more for vegetarians.

The omelet was well prepared and as ordered. The waitress is not rude but does get involved with regulars and loses track of the others in the restaurant. If she had balanced talking with those that always come in with checking on the rest of us I would have increased the rating but I had to go over and interrupt her as she sat at the counter talking to get a box and my check.

My favorite diner in Blue Island. The managing is by far the best I've seen. They are always welcoming and as a regular, I appreciate that they remember me. The food is NEVER bad and I try all kinds of food. I mean, where else can you get an omelette and meatloaf in the same place? It's worth a try if you're in the area. Come on Wednesdays, the split pea soup is good!
