Dan the Baker

Dan is distributing lovely sourdough bread and exquisite pastries out of this coffee bar. His croissants and airy and delicacy. His sourdough is blistered, baked dark but not too dark. There were these decant looking cream filled pastries that just looked mmm. With Google across the way and a hip hotel attached to the coffee bar you can probably guess the scene. Bread and pastries are available on weekends by pre-order on Dan's website. They have a small selection of pastries at the counter for sale. Recommended.

Love seeing what's in the weekly drop & relatively quick order pickup from Emily hotel. Dan is the man, especially when it comes to croissants. Flaky & crisp layers with a perfectly porous, pillowy interior. The seasonal fillings in the cronuts are fun and the QA is always a winner. But to me, the croissants are still the star. Stuff dreams are made of!

Thanks Dan for the delicious crookies! You can find @danthebakerchicago in the Emily hotel and they even take orders with days in advance if you want specific baked goods! @cassidyeatscarbs and I really had to stop by and try the famous and vital crookie and honestly that was heaven! As someone who doesn't even like chocolate chip cookies, this made me change my ways because it was the softest and tastiest mix of 2 delicious bakery items put together in one! If you've never had a crookie you need to go get one because you'll be craving for more just like we are! The ambiance inside the hotel is very classy and relaxing definitely a place to sit!

Tried the ham and cheese croissant, Pain Suisse and Chili Crisp and Smoked Gouda Monkey Bread. I missed the Matcha Kouign Amann and Ube Canele de Bordeaux because they were sold out online so fast! The pickup is easy. We did street parking and quickly ran into the cafe that's just on the ground floor of The Emily Hotel to get our order. Liked the flaky, rich and not overly sweet Pain Suisse and the flavorful ham and cheese croissant. The cheesy monkey bread is a bit oily and needs to be warmed up before enjoying. It smells buttery and yummy after warming up! We plan to try more pastries next time when we are in town!

Exquisite!!! That's the word that comes to mind to describe Dan the Baker's pastries! The lamination is flawless! The croissants are as good as the ones you get in France. I love that the cruffins and kouign amann's have seasonally flavored pastry cream. The talent doesn't stop there. The seeded bread is prefect for sandwiches especially grilled cheeses. The baguettes are crunchy on the outside with a light and airy crumb. The online ordering process is easy and pick up on the weekends is really easy.

I'd agree that this place ranks amongst the best of its genre. I only got to try a couple of things but the two things were enjoyed. I find the ordering systems for places like these are tedious. I don't have time for placing orders in advance so after brunch in the west loop I pooped over to the Emily hotel & voila there were a couple of items available & these things were on the lower side of price point. I got the "Chocolate Sourdough Banana Bread,Super soft banana bread muffins filled up with semi sweet chocolate" & the "Milk Chocolate Chip CookiesGooey chocolate chip cookies made with Jivara milk chocolate". The banana bread was a nice surprise as the base was chocolate Twas a nice surprise & I didn't know what to expect but to have something this delicious on a whim made my Sunday morning

Pistachio and Strawberry Bostok: SO GOOD!! Dang, texture and flavor were both spot on.Heirloom tomato Danish with basil pesto: oh man, this is such a great savory pastry. Acidity from the pesto and tomato perfectly balanced by the richness of the Danish.Blueberry Danish: also delicious! You can almost never go wrong with anything you orderPain Suisse: this was the one exception. Pretty average tastingChocolate croissant: a classic that you can't go wrong with. Yummy yummy

Finally got to try pastries from Dan the Baker! Pick up is now from the cafe inside The Emily hotel located in Fulton Market. Pick up is only available on weekends so be sure to order on time. The pick-up process was smooth and easy. All were very good to me but nothing spectacular. The high quality is very obvious in its presentation and taste. The cinnamon knot took me by surprise - the orange cream cheese was so good!I would love to order again since I know they have seasonal items from time to time!

Incredible that this business only has just over a dozen reviews, because more people need to know about how good it is. I ordered a little late into the weekend, so only a couple items were left. Got the English muffins, cinnamon knots, and monkey bread. All were amazing. The English muffins were generously sized and so soft, and they smelled beautiful. The monkey bread had just the right amount of sweet and small chunks of apples. My favorite was the cinnamon knot. Perfectly flaky throughout with a soft core. And the orange cream. Goodness. It's become one of my favorite pastries in the city. Pickup at the Emily Hotel was seamless. I'm telling my friends about this place.

Simple perfection. Delicious! Can't stop thinking about Dan's croissants!!! If you have the opportunity, don't miss it!!!!!
