Walters Tavern

I ordered the shrimp basket. My husband ordered a burger. Both were huge! The food was delicious. They had several menu items that sound great. Prices average around $17 per entree. Some items are a little less, some are about double that. The outdoor back patio was nicely decorated with tablecloths, flowers, and fake candles. They do have patio heaters. They had TVs on and a local sharing his life story with anyone who would listen. The bar area patio was enclosed for warmth, but absolutely filled with cigarette smoke. They had slot machines at the bar. It's like a dive bar serving top quality food and attempting to be nicer than a dive bar . The vibe was a bit odd.Our waitress was very welcoming and friendly. She had that southern hospitality charm. We received excellent service.

OMG! This is THE hidden gem of Lake Cities! The Rainbow Trout and Beef Stroganoff are 5 star quality dishes! Love this place!

The food is always fantastic, service always great. Patio is amazing after the fire, heaters and portable AC units.

Tavern is the word. The hamburgers are outstanding, but the place is very dark and loud just like you would expect in a tavern. We didn't care for the vibe so we won't be back. We much prefer Cowboys Cafe which is just a few blocks away.

Great food! Good vibes! Burgers are a hit! Any of the daily specials are always great. The wait staff is ok. They cater very much to their regular local bar drinkers. Since the fire they have still not opened the dining room. There is a smokers patio which is gross so unless you smoke and like your food to taste like a cigarette. Other than that the food is amazing!

So this is a tough one for me. We need food normal restaurants in this area. Walters Tavern is... A restaurant. It has interesting food combinations, interesting flavors, is local, is a tavern with a nice atmosphere. But it's just too expensive for what it is in my opinion. The food was "fine", as in it wasn't bad or anything. But for $70 we got basically pasta in sauce and a couple of appetizers. None of it was bad, it was just... Not "wow flavors" for plain dishes, and plain dishes for "wow prices" should have more wow flavors.

Walter's Tavern is a gem located in the small town of Lake Dallas a short drive on I 35E north of Dallas. The menu offers the usual bar items with a few surprises including chicken fried brisket and jalapeño gravy. My friend and I opted for the cheeseburger and we're not disappointed. A thick and well seasoned beef patty with all the fixins. We both had the white cheddar cheese and I added bacon. Fries were included. We both had iced tea served in whopping big glasses. Service was efficient and friendly without being overly attentive which I like. The decor is somewhat upscale for a tavern. The lighting is on the dark side befitting a bar. Several tvs graced the walls. The bar is on the back wall. This seems to be a "Cheers" kind of place where locals meet and greet. However my friend and I did not feel out of place. If you're at the lake or just passing through Walter's is worth a look. Right next to the Sonic.

Husband and I went to Walter's Tavern for the first time this past weekend and it was soo good!!!! We both got the fish and chips after stalking the pictures here and on IG. The fish was delicious, the fries were crisp and the hush puppies were so good. I don't even like hush puppies because every place I've had them they've been so dry and tasteless... but these hush puppies were a different story. I ate every one and would order a side of them if I could. The bartenders were super nice and attentive. I didn't even care that it was hot as hell and a slight smell of cigarettes lingering in the breeze, I sat there unbothered with my plate of goodness. We will be back!

Came across Walter's Tavern when traveling through Lake Dallas. Had the French Dip sandwich and fries, it was the best. We didn't know the restaurant had a fire in the past and they are currently rebuilding. We sat on the patio, was Leary at first but the outstanding customer service made us want to stay and eat, they brought 3 heaters to our table and made it very comfortable. They made sure we had everything we needed.We can't wait to come back. Nice to support a local when they are rebuilding.

Such a great local place! Celebrated my birthday here on New Year's Day and they took exceptional care of us! They made sure we had all the heaters and the TVs on the game! The food is very delicious!! And drinks strong and tasty! Go check them out!
