This place is popping up all over my social media so we came here for our post Valentines celebration. We order a good variety of food and were impressed by it all. I couldn't determine a favorite dish bc they were all so awesome. I only could decide that of all the dishes I only had ONE dish I could decide that I didn't like as much and it's not to say it wasn't good, it just wasn't my jam. The dish that surprised me was the eggplant. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as the others since it's "just" eggplant, but it was very well executed. Service was amazing! Our server was the perfect amount of attentive and so sweet! The owner came by and checked on us at some point as well. Definitely a place we'd come back to!

Everything was excellent, but if you come here for one thing let it be the sushi - this is the freshest, best quality raw fish I've had so far in the DFW area. Deliciously done nigiri and a beautiful chirashi bowl were our standouts of the night! We also had the wagyu rice - also delicious, but nothing crazy in my opinion. I would definitely skip it next time for more sushi. We were one of the first people in the restaurant, so our service was fast (and polite as well!). We'll come back for another date night ASAP!

I wanted to love this place SO BAD. I really did. It's literally 2 mins from my house and the District 121 area is SUCH a beautifully designed entertainment hub. We are so lucky for such a cool spot to be right down the road, so I'm always rooting for restaurants over there to do well. Also, I've heard nothing but rave reviews of Shoyo in Dallas and I read that Shun's exec chef and partner, is a former sushi chef at Shoyo, and previously worked at Tei Tei and Akira Back (HUGE fans of both), so I had very high expectations for Shun and was SO excited to go here for a date night. But to say I was let down is a huge understatement. Womp womp womp. I will say, the quality of the fish is OUTSTANDING but the dishes themselves all fell flat. Atmosphere: gorgeous restaurant...10/10Service: 7/10 Drinks: 6/10Food: 6/10- Japanese Black Manhattan (8/10) - good drink.- Strawberry Basil (4/10) - too muddled, too sweet. Imagine trying to drink syrup from a slushy. - Nigiri: salmon belly, yellowtail belly, amberjack, Uni (10/10) - the quality and freshness of the fish was impeccable - Snowcrab nigiri (5/10) - would not order this again...was expecting something drizzled in butter like at Uchiko but it was plain and undressed and blah- Salmon Yuzu mustard (7/10)- this dish was good enough...the salmon was fresh, the yuzu was tasty, but the truffle on top was completely unnecessary. It gave zero actual truffle flavor/essence so if you closed your eyes, it just felt like you were eating sashimi with a bit of dirt. Yum, right?- Hamachi Crudo (7/10) - fish quality was great, texture of the crispy daikon and radish was a nice complement, but as a composed dish, it was lacking flavor so we added soy sauce and it was fine.- Panseared scallop (5/10)- zero sear on the scallop. The accompaniments were good, if not a tad salty, but the scallop itself was just raw and warm. For me, the combo of raw and warm give me an immediate ick.- Foie gras skewer (9/10) - hard to go wrong with Foie gras- Wagyu & Uni sushi (6.5/10) - the Uni was creamy and fresh, but the wagyu added nothing. It wasn't torched/seared enough so none of the beautiful meat flavor came through...it just tasted like Uni nigiri with something chewy. For $25/ piece, this was such a massive letdown. - Grilled salmon (9/10) - this dish was delicious. The salmon (although hardly "grilled") was buttery and falling apart and the pesto gave it a very Italian vibe. Unexpected at a Japanese restaurant, but still very good. - Lobster Creamy Udon (0/10) - I can't tell you how unappetizing this was. The sauce was so watery that it was more like broth. It's as if someone added too much stock and did not let it reduce. I wish I could go back in the kitchen and fix it myself bc it had SO MUCH POTENTIAL, but lacked execution. Needed more seasoning and something to thicken the sauce...either a slurry or more reduction. We took one bite and couldn't eat any more. We gave the feedback to the kitchen and they offered to bring us something else but we refused bc at that point we just wanted to leave and they didn't even comp it. They had an opportunity to make it right and they failed to do so, making the entire experience all the more disappointing.Overall, I would only recommend coming here if you just wanted nigiri and sashimi. For any dish that actually requires some thought or any kind of layering of flavors, they entirely miss the mark IMHO. We spent the entire evening wishing we had gone to Uchiko which is our usual date night spot.

Was excited to try the chirashi bowl and omakase... both were okay. Felt the chirashi bowl was a little lacking in flavor and the omakase flavors were all the same. The foie gras skewer was pretty good.... Was also pretty impressed with the tako wasabi! One of the better ones I've had!

Food was amazing. Such good choices. Friendly staff. It was super busy so it took a while to get help, but once we got someone everyone was great and attentive. The owner even came over at the end to apologize and she was super friendly.

Great addition to the Yama franchise with a more upscale touch. Nice size restaurant with plenty of seating, along with a patio that opens up to the main courtyard of District 121. They are currently in their soft opening. Service was excellent and food was also excellent. Hope they will offer some type of HH menu as we've been going to Common Table next door for their HH.

The first thing you notice when you walk into SHUN is that it is a nice place - a really nice place! The second thing is that there is a serious focus on customer service. We (my wife and I) walked in with no reservation. We were given a table, but informed that service was somewhat delayed due to the unexpectedly large number of customers, but they would do their best to take care of us - 3 different staff members gave us that message and apologized for it. I requested a glass of wine and when it did not appear before our first dishes arrived, I inquired as to the status of my order. A very apologetic young lady got it taken care of immediately - hard to ask for more than that. The SHUN staff is impressive - they radiate customer service. At one point, I managed to launch one of my chopsticks off the table. As I was trying to figure out how I was going to eat my sushi with one chopstick, I saw one of the staff (not our waitress) go by and I raised my hand - it would have been easy for her to overlook me, but she immediately stopped and asked how she could be of service. A new set of chopsticks was quickly acquired. The most important part - of course, is the food. When you look at the menu it becomes very clear that this is not just another sushi place - they have a wide range of eclectic offerings that all sounded very interesting (not what you typically expect). We ordered the Shishito peppers, the octopus salad (Tako Kani Sansai), the miso pork belly skewers, the Hudson Valley Foie Gras skewer, the Louisiana roll, and the Chief's Choice Omakase sushi with the Tres Leche Matcha for desert. Fantastic food!I was a big fan of the peppers - they were a little too spicy for my wife but she still ate 3-4 of them. The octopus salad exceeded our expectations - very unusual, but tasty. Sometimes a bit hard to identify what you were eating, but it tasted great! The pork belly skewers were a good value and what you would expect - Great! The Hudson Valley Foie Gras skewer was a big chunk of grilled liver (at least that is what it looked like to me). As I am not a fan, I let my wife enjoy it - she really liked it and was bummed that they were out of the scallop/foi gras skewers. The Louisiana roll was good - I would order it again, but after I tried some of the other offerings. The Chief's Choice Omakase sushi was a good move - they were not so large that you couldn't eat them all, and each one was excellent in it's own way. Very tasty, but I will probably try the SHUN Bara Chirashi next time (and there will definitely be a next time). The Tres Leche Matcha was eclectic, but my wife really liked it (I don't do deserts). The bottom line is that we are very happy to have such a high quality restaurant so close with sufficient seating that you at least have a possibility of getting seated with no reservation. Highly recommended.

My family and I had dinner here Saturday night. The decor is very nice, but they had it way too cold in there and it was already very cold outside. We ordered a number of items and the star was the tuna dish under cold plates. We love sushi and Japanese food in general, but the rest of the food was just ok. I think the worst of the dishes was the chicken kaarage. They have whole entire chicken tenders (3) and they were bland. We made a 40 minute drive that we don't plan to make again. Our waitress was very nice, the owner? Manager? Came by to check on us, and they will never let you go thirsty. If you want delicious sushi and other dishes that will hit every time, checkout Uchiba and Uchiko.

Let me start off by saying my stars are strictly on all components of food, service, price, atmosphere combined. I saw this place all over social media and was very excited to have another sushi spot in McKinney. The place is absolutely beautiful inside; I loved the decor. The hostess was super friendly, my friend and I sat at the sushi bar, the chef in front of us was nice. Our waiter wasn't terrible but he wasn't super attentive. Had to order a few things through the sushi chef. They have a decent sized menu with lots to offer. Of course I wanted to try everything. We started off with the shishito peppers, foie gras skewers, pork belly skewers, tako wasabi and spicy scallop nigiri. The peppers were really nice. Great flavor and cooked perfectly. The foie gras was ok, honestly it was missing a flavor and just felt like it was drenched in sauce. The one at Uchi is much better in my opinion. The pork belly skewers were cooked fine, but the flavor was underwhelming. For those price points it should be a flavor explosion every bite! The spicy scallop nigiri was pretty good; they didn't just smother it with mayo, Hanakin still hands down my favorite with that. The Tako wasabi is very good probably my favorite thing I ate here. Theirs and Sushi Nunu have this item to a T. We then ordered the sizzling A5 fried rice; presentation was of course an A+, but taste was disappointing. It needed salt or some sort of seasoning. It honestly was just hot beef and rice with bland flavors. We also ordered the lunch size chirashi, madai sashimi, salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, sweet shrimp nigiri, and the Wagyu and uni nigiri. The fish was fresh but the complimentary flavors I'm used to were lacking. When I go to Heian and Hanakin, their sashimi is accompanied by house made sauces, or Japanese peaches, etc. small amounts of something that bring out the flavors of the fish and compliment each other. They just rolled it up and served it on ice. The sweet shrimp was decent, they went skimpy on the fried shrimp head. The Wagyu and uni nigiri was good, but Heian's uni is way better. For the price point per bite, it's just lackluster. We ordered the scallops from the hot plates and it was cooked nicely and I enjoyed the flavors. The cold plate side we ordered the Shiromi tiradito and the hamachi crudo. Both dishes were beautiful and the shiromi was served with theatrics of smoke but the taste on both was just ok. It looked better than it tasted. Which was disappointing. On dishes like that I'm expecting great flavor profiles and I just didn't find that here. We also got the Salmon Yuzu Mustard and this was one of the better dishes we got. All in all, it wasn't terrible, but I personally won't be back because nothing was amazing or memorable. I'm a sushi snob and when I'm forking out money like this for sushi, it's gotta check off all my boxes. Personally I go between 3 spots and the reason I go back is for those amazing flavor profiles. Again this is my opinion and you should definitely try the place out. Just for me it wasn't worth the hype this go around.
