Real Mexican Tacos

You know the tacos will be good when it's inside a gas station and these were good, but pretty pricey. We ordered the trompo tacos along with a fajita torta. They were delicious and the torta was fully loaded. The only downside is that the inside was really really dirty, used napkins still on the counter....the staff was also eating while preparing the food. One lady was munching on chicken wings with her bare hands right in front of us. It was really disappointing, since the trompo was tasty, but I won't be back again due to lack of health precautions. There are better street tacos in the area!

So this place has recently changed owners, and I believe has some different things on the menu. But the trompo meat is excellent. It reminded me of a Mediterranean gyro the way they slice it off, except they throw it on the flat grill.He said they make it in-house, and the flavor was excellent. Also really good was the Carnita's.....very juicy, flavorful, and tender.At $1.89 a taco, this place is a steal. So if you're ever stuck in construction and want a quick stop while you're going down 35, or really want a good place for some tacos, this is your place. The guy who referred me to hear said that their breakfast tacos and Tortas are excellent. I can't wait to try the Trompo Torta.

While the location may not be ideal (in a gas station) the food certainly makes up for it!!I had the menudo, which was excellent. The only thing that would improve it for me would be the addition of hominy, but that's a personal preference.My wife had the taco plate, and all three of the meats she chose were great. I'm always a fan when you can see into the kitchen where your food is being prepared. Everything was clean and proper food handling techniques .were followed. Highly recommend if you are in the area, or even if you aren't!

In Daniel's Taco Taste I trust. The day before his ROTD I stopped in here with faith in his awesome lists. I think a good nickname for him would be the "Taco Advisor". I'll be going back to one Cholula or another for sure. Thanks to Eddie who works at this location I learned a nice little tip with his perfect english. There is one much closer to my regular comings and goings. This is great news, because as much as I love filling up my car and tummy tank(s) at gas station Taquerias I wouldn't likely drive too far out of the way to come back even with a solid 3.5 star round up. Closer, hell to the yeah - with or without gas. I'll let you know when I figure out the other location that has turned out to be a bit confusing. Different info with a lack of english can complicate matters. I might have to waste a little gas to figure it out : DI filled up at this Conoco and went on in to order my taco lunch. They were out of the Picadillo unfortunately, so I got a Barbacoa, Carnitas and a Pastor all made to order. The Carnitas stood out and was probably one of the best i'ved had. The quality of the meat was great. It was really tender pulled pork without a bit of chewy teeth grinding necessary. Next time I think I'd like to put some BBQ sauce on top even though their salsas are really good. I was extremely impressed with Both the red and green salsa. More so than any Taqueria I've been to when it comes to liking both. I'm usually partial to one or the other. Or neither ;). They both have just a touch of creaminess to them that makes them more appealing and flavorful yet they still pack enough heat. The pastor came in second and was very good. The barbacoa however wasn't bad, but it was my least favorite. A little too much fat and grease there. All three taco came with the standard cilantro, onion and lime wedges. Can I acronym this to be the standard COL? Gotta save time ya know. Especially when you can run in and get a drink, tacos, car is on full and lunch is done within 10 minutes. Nothing wrong with good cheap food on the go right off of the highway.They close at 4pm during the week, 2pm on Saturdays, and are closed on Sundays. Regarless, no late nights or even close to it. Think lunch or breakfast with a quick fuel up. Breakfast is from 6am -11am. It's never too early for a taco. It just depends on when late starts and early ends : D

It's official. The glory days of the McDonald's combination gas station are dead and gone. If you want to be in with the in crowd you've got to have a greasy Taqueria to go along with your overpriced Big Gulps. So clear out that cheap sunglasses stand and make way for some solid Mexican food. Inevitably the comparison to Fuel City will be made, so I'm just going to cut right to the chase: Taqueria Cholula is very good, but it ain't no Fuel City. There are some things I really like about it though. For starters, this place has options, including lengua (tongue), nopales (cactus), and chicharron (fried pig skin) to round out their list of 14 tacos, as well as breakfast tacos, antojitos, and tamales. We sampled some quality tacos, but the pork tamale really stole the show. And unlike Fuel City, once you purchase your meal on credit you are awarded with a place to sit, which is especially great if you're tired of getting greasy taco stains all over your prized El Camino. So here's what keeps me from putting Taqueria Cholula in the same league as my beloved Fuel City. It's nice to have options, but I'd rather have one mind-blowing delicious taco than 14 good tacos. And don't even think about going to the bathroom while you're there. I think I got more germs on my hands by washing them in the sink or by touching the door handle than I would have by eating my food off the ground. Even if Fuel City is ghettofabulous, at least it's clean for the most part. Lastly, it's missing the view of downtown Dallas and the longhorn ranch that just makes me proud to be a Texan.Even though Taqueria Cholula is much closer, I think some things are just worth the extra drive time. Maybe if I'm almost out of gas then this might be the better option, but my car can go a long way on empty.

I am a taco fan, and always in the hunt for a new place with good tacos.. Fuel city is a far drive from work.. El paisa is my usual spot near me.. but today i tried Taqueria Cholua..After all the good reviews ..it has to be great right? WRONG!!!..I walk in and its dead.. 1 pm wed..I order one of each of my usuals.. Chicken fajita..Beef fajitaBarbacoaEl pastorChicken was decent, not much flavor, semi dry..Beef was good, not the best..but still beat out the chickenBarbacoa was gross..Beefy taste, very oilyEl pastor was just bad in my view.. not my traditional, semi flavorless, bad texture.Overall I give this place a C-.. I wont be back..cant belive so many people love this place.. how lol?

Upgrade! I don't know what Taqueria Cholula has done between my first and last visit, but whatever it is has me contemplating on making them a weekly lunch stop. I skipped the barbacoa and stuck with only tacos al pastor for my order. Absolutely delicious! This time the meat was shredded instead of cubed, very moist and as always packed with the delicious adobo flavor. Watching them pull the meat out the Zip Loc bag didn't exactly make my mouth water or make me feel too comfortable, but after the first bite I was a believer. It doesn't matter how they serve it up...as long as it tastes good and doesn't make me drive the porcelain bus I'll be coming back. With the order comes a jalapeno avocado sauce that is a perfect addition to the tacos. The people are very nice, it's cheap ($4 for 3 tacos) and the food seems to have improved.

Love their chicken enchiladas. Plenty of food, spicy, and they always make it right/good. Never, "huh, what's this?"$7.57 ya'll, can't beat that price.(oh and their tacos are pretty good too)

Like many of you, I love Fuel City tacos, but Commerce is quite a drive for me from North Dallas. So, I have diligently been searching for something comparable on the North side of town. Cholula is the best alternative I have found so far.The set-up is similar, but not identical. They carry all the same regular taco varieties (picadillo, pastor, fajita, chicken) but they have about 10 more options than FC including some of the more exotic options like lengua and cactus. They are located in a Conoco station set right off of the 35 and run by a brother and sister team putting out some seriously smokin tacos. Besides tacos, they have many more Mexican options (soups, tortas, sides) that I can't really speak for yet. But trust me, the tacos stack up. Another plus to this place is that they take plastic, unlike my beloved FC.Anyways, the food- We had the picadillo, pastor, chorizo, and fajita tacos. Like I said, very simply prepared- Meat, cilantro, and onion nestled in corn or flour tortillas with a squeeze of those cute little limes. I am a flour fan (don't hate) so I can only speak for those. The green salsa they pair it with is a little creamier that FC and has more a kick to it. The meats were all done exceptionally well. The picadillo was still my favorite, but I was surprised how wonderful they all were. The fajita taco was juicy and flavorful, but I have had problems with consistency on this one. The chorizo is nicely spiced and exploding with greasy goodness. The pastor, always a favorite of mine, was tender and melts in your mouth. My wife, a FC virgin, was going nuts over how great these things were (I've been promising to take her down to FC, but she wants to buy a new can of pepper spray first).Cheap, delicious, fast, and the aroma of fresh gasoline in the parking lot- everything you could ever want in a taco joint. Take my word for it, the tacos are worthy. FC may still be the king, but Cholula is a worthy contender.

The menu prices online don't reflect the prices charged They say a plate it's 6.99 and when you order they charge 9.79. They need to update and publish the correct information.
