I don't eat a lot of Indian food out and my experience is mostly from the meals cooked by mothers of my friends. However, this new place had such great prices that it seemed like the best option for sampling a few things.Items ordered (copied directly from their menu) were:*Bhel Puri: Puffed rice and sev mixed with potatoes, onions, chaat masala, and chutney. $2.50.*Dahi Batata Puri: Round puffy puri filled with mashed potatoes, yogurt garnished with crushed sev, moong dal, and chopped cilantro. $2.50.For both of those dishes the portions were very fair for the price. I was surprised the potatoes were cold and the Dahi Batata was separated. I feel they need to edit their verbiage on the menu, as it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. However, the flavors and spices were familiar and applied with a restrained hand.*Bombay Vada Pav: One piece of deep fried potato patty with cilantro and Indian spices served on pav bread with garlic chutney. $1.99.Again, fair portion for the price but the roll was stale and unappetizing, the patty was okay. It may have been a fluke, but I wouldn't want to order it again unless their recipe got tweaked. *Samosa: Two pieces of crispy puff pastry stuffed with lightly seasoned potatoes and green peas served with chutney. $1.50.I only received one, so again I think the menu needs some editing. However, the size was worth the price and this was the best thing I had! Very, very flavorful and spicy too, with a perfect crispy puff. I would recommend this for sure!*Gulab Jamun: One piece of dry milk and cottage cheese dumplings fried and soaked in sugar syrup. $0.99.I had never tried this before, anywhere, and though it looked good, I am a texture person and found the texture really odd. I'm not sure if it was meant to be served cold or not but I guess I thought it would be soft and luscious, where it was actually soggy and bland. All the sauces and garnishes were split from the dishes and put into one bag so I was a little confused on what went with what, but probably only because I had ordered so many different things. Despite this and the expectations being a little different, I feel you can't really complain at the price point. I'm a real wimp about spicy stuff and most of the menu is too spicy for my palate. However, I absolutely plan to return for more of those delightful samosas and to sample a couple more dishes, including the Rasmala, which they were out of, at these outstanding prices!Overall, I would say 3 1/2 stars. I feel the menu needs a little work and to clarify what the customer should expect. However, the food was decent and super cheap and in that price bracket I would say it gets a bump up until I've determined how they are with consistency.

I was looking for a quick-to-pick-up lunch today while running errands and decided that vegetarian curry sounded good. I remember seeing Rajula's takeout counter in the India Bazaar but it was closed at the time, I figured it would probably be open on a Friday for lunch.I looked at the menu and quite frankly, I didn't know what the majority of items were. That tells me it's probably pretty authentic since I'm a pasty white American person. The menu is divided into the "chaat" (street food) items and some "specialties". Right at the front there was a display case with the Samosas (I know what those are!) as well as vegetable puffs and kachori which looked a bit like meat pies (except obviously they wouldn't have meat here). I asked what they were filled with and she said lentils and spices. That sounded good, so I ordered a kachori chaat. $5.99I watched as she prepared it and recognized a couple of the ingredients... a lot of chana masala (chick peas), tamarind chutney, green (mint?) chutney... then a bunch of stuff that I have no idea what it was. White sauce, yellow sprinkles, green sprinkles. Topped with a little onion and tomato.I didn't see the kachori go in but I think she must have mashed it up and put everything on top of it, because when I ate it there were chunks. Anyway, this was absolutely delicious. Sweet from the tamarind, savory from the chana masala and mystery ingredients. Not spicy at all really but super flavorful. I couldn't even finish it, it was so filling. They also sell roti of a couple different flavors packaged like tortillas and desserts like gulab jamun and rasmulai, both of which I love, neither of which a diabetic should eat, so I haven't tried them yet.All in all, it's hard to beat a $6 tasty and filling vegetarian meal. I look forward to trying other random things on the menu in future.

Lady tried to scam/overcharge me. I was excited to try this place that I haven't tried before. I asked for one aloo paratha and one samosa. The paratha is $2.49 and the samosa is $1.50. The screen showed a total of $9.18, so I confirmed that I only got the two things I asked for. She confirmed that I ordered one paratha and one samosa, so I asked how my total came out to $9.18. She said "tax." I said "the samosa is $1.50 and the aloo paratha is $2.49, how does that add up?" and she froze up and looked at the ground for a good 30 seconds. There was a boy sitting in the kitchen that she signaled over to talk to me and he said "You want it or you don't want it?" I said "I'm just trying to understand how it came out to 9.18." He freezes up and at this point and at this point I was over it. I took my card and left. Hope you take this as a lesson. Don't try to overcharge your customers, or you'll end up with none.

They gave me old and stale samosas and when I went back to return them they asked for the one which the kids kept in the mouth and threw out! and said that one cannot buy 3 samosas and bring back 2 1/2!I went 8 miles to tell them that they might want to check before they sell anymore to other customers and this is what I got to experience. Never again will I ever buy anything from them. Watch out before buying any. This happened after me being a loyal customer for over 2 years.
