This place is where I recently had my wedding 1/19/19 and yes it was a pretty place but there was so many problems while planning with the coordinator. We worked with Edna and at first it was fine but then over time she became harder to work with, she was disrespectful, rude, and at times talks bad about people who she promotes. The floors were a lovely wood and looked nice and they told us they were redoing the area, and she said to us that it would be new floors and center piece designs along with the bar being put in a different corner when we came to check in a couple Months later the floors were tile and uneven and they didn't look great at all. She was rude to the grooms mother when she was trying to plan everything. If I could go back I would have chosen a different place.

The Poetry Place has taken over the restaurant that was adjacent to their event venue! Thought I'd give their Sunday Brunch a try and was pleasantly surprised! Enjoyed the complimentary Bloody Mary's (perfect for a cold wet Sunday morning) and their food was good also. I had the French Toast plate with scrambled eggs, and bacon! Eggs were good, bacon large, crisp and hot and the French Toast was very good also! Look forward to eating dinner or lunch their sometime this week! Only complaint was I had to wait for menu to be printed (apparently it changes each day) and the staff wasn't quite ready when I got there (10 minutes after opening time)! These problems are correctable and I hope they do, downtown Garland needs a little more upscale dining, which they appear to be aiming at!

Poetry Place was the first place I visited for our wedding venue and the last. After meeting Penny and her family that is all involved was it for me. This is a family operated business and the family is wonderful. They made it so simple from the beginning to the end of our event. I cannot say enough about this place as we had our ceremony and reception all in the big room. The food was excellent and everyone at our wedding was very impressed by all. I would highly recommend Poetry Place as I am confident you will have a beautiful and problem free event.

My husband and I visited Poetry Place in Garland for their Grand Opening as well as for the dance party that they held during Garland's Christmas on the Square. The event space was beautiful and we met the owners and the staff and were treated to real family style hospitality. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a unique, beautiful and affordable setting for a wedding, party or other special celebration.Kathleen

We hosted a wedding reception at The Poetry Place in early November, 2014 for our son and daughter in law. In the end, the event went very nicely, the place looked very nice, the food and service at the event were satisfactory, our guests had a good time, the bride and groom were pleased, so overall, we were pleased. The reason for the low marks was the less than satisfactory experience in dealing with The Poetry Place management in arranging the event. Because there was a change of ownership and a change of chef between the time we reserved the place and the actual event, we needed extra assurance that the event would be handled well. We found management to be slow to respond and less than forthcoming in communicating with us, or worse yet, totally unresponsive, and then the details were never quite as promised. Our son and daughter in law constantly felt the necessity to check and re-check the details, and the responses were never quite the same. On the day of the wedding, our daughter in law had pre-arranged with management to do some decorating at The Poetry Place, but there were certain things that first needed to be done by The Poetry Place. When our daughter in law arrived, she found that The Poetry Place had not performed its tasks and so she had to do the things that The Poetry Place had agreed to do before she could decorate-- on the day of her wedding. The Poetry Place did not have a liquor license and so the alcoholic beverages had to be provided by a third party provider. Right up until the end, we could not get a straight answer as to whether The Poetry Place would actually have its own liquor license. I was still working out the details with the third party provider on the day before the wedding. Despite repeated promises throughout the many months that we had been planning this event that the coordinator that we had been working with would be in attendance at the reception, she did not attend, but sent a substitute instead. The substitute did a satisfactory job, but we had never met her before, and it was not the same as having the person in attendance who was supposed to know every detail of the event and how it had been planned. No explanation was ever given for her failure to attend. The Poetry Place could be a very nice place to host wedding receptions and other events, but these service issues are significant. Weddings are inherently stressful, but a big part of the venue's job is to reduce pre-event stress to the maximum extent possible and give the family the feeling that they have everything handled so that the family can focus on other things. Our experience could not have been further from that ideal. We were on the edge of our seat right up until the moment of the event. Management's performance in this case was a stress inducer. We expected a lot better.
