Ookuma Burger

We got advice from the attendant to get the teriyaki pork and beef burgers along with truffle fries but they ran out of the octopus. The restaurant has a window to talk with a person but you must order your food via an iPad, which failed the first time we tried. The attendant pulled himself out of the window and leaned on the ledge to fix the problem. Unexpectedly, the person came out of the building to deliver the food.Seating is all outdoors meaning customers will seek alternatives if the weather is too hot, cold or wet. So that puts it in the category of a food truck with a fixed location that is difficult to find, in an inconvenient area.While the location is not close to anyplace, the neighborhood has some new construction, which will help establish the restaurant but not for several months. We only found the place because we had been to Sandwich Hag but don't expect great signage. The dirt driveway is immediately past the building and paved parking is in the rear. Strangely, the outdoor seating is mostly unpaved (dirt and rocks) but cars park on a nice concrete pad. While the food is good, I fear the lack of indoor seating, lack of service, remote location, and poor signage will take its toll on the success of the restaurant. Hopefully the rent is low enough that the restaurant can be profitable and establish itself.

A new Japanese style burger shop opened for lunch service this past Wednesday in the Cedars area south of downtown Dallas. The building was previously the Sandwich Hag bahn mi shop. Open Wed - Sat 11:00 AM - 3:00 PMOpen Sun 11:00 AM - 5:00 PMClosed Monday & Tuesday. I had the pork teriyaki burger, sumo fries, and matcha-strawberry chiffon cake. The pork burger was a big patty, both tender and moist. The fries also hit the spot, very tasty. Only outside seating though, so perhaps to-go or eat in the car with the AC on during the summer months. There's plenty of shaded seating though, as well as parking. ookuma is Japanese for big or honorific bear (おおくま - 大熊).

I read about this place recently and added it to my must-visit list. After a trip to the farmers market this morning, I realized I was nearby and that it would open soon. I got there around 10:50 and the place looked deserted. No cars in the parking lot even though every listing I can find says they open at 11:00. I walked around the building but there wasn't a sign showing the hours. Finally right at 11:00 someone dressed like a cook pulled up and hurried inside. Either they don't open at 11:00 or they're running late. I was concerned that service wouldn't be ready and my experience wouldn't be what they typically provide. Considering I had to be somewhere at noon, I decided to skip the visit this time and hope I can make it another day soon.

Everything is so so delicious! The burgers are of course amazing, and the appetizers and sides, like the fried chicken, are also next-level. We are already planning our return visit! Excellent friendly service and just a great spot to hang out!

Was sad to hear when Sandwich Hag was closing but Ookuma Burger has more than filled the void! The beef teriyaki patty was delicious. Very flavorful. The takoyaki was a pleasant surprise and would've more than carried its own weight amongst the stalls in Osaka. Will definitely be coming back for more in the future!

Very good burgers and fries. They Need signed on top so you make sure you don't pass it up . Service was fast, very polite people.
