Came to pick up an order of a dozen egg tarts. Dragon Mak is the only one running the shop now since his wife passed. He only does egg tarts now, no longer any cakes or pineapple buns. Egg tarts are delicious, flaky, and reminds me of Hong Kong. It was sad to see him all alone and running the shop as a hobby now rather than what it used to be back in the day when my mom and all her friends would order cakes and pastries from there. If you have the time, please go support! Cash only and call 30 min ahead to order.

This shop looks like it's seen better days, but they still have the same yummy egg tarts! When I arrived, the door was locked and the shop was empty, even though it was during their opening hours. There's two phone numbers on the door. I called the top one (972-815-7560) which was written more clearly. A lady answered, and we spoke a mix of mediocre Mandarin and mediocre English. (The reviews say they speak Cantonese.) She said my order of a dozen would take 30-35 min, $35, cash only. I set an alarm and napped in the car. After 40 min, I stepped into the store and greeted Dragon Mak (who now appropriately looks decades older than his photo on the wall). As we waited for the egg tarts to finish baking, we chatted in broken Mandarin about how his wife passed away 6 months ago, how much it cost to bury her, how much it cost to purchase his nearby home decades ago, how he used to live in the Houston Chinatown and how affordable it was back in the day...Tl;dr -Scrumptious fresh egg tarts made to orderCall to place order for pickup: 972-815-7560Cash only, no $50 or $100 bills (something about a counterfeit bill scare??)As of 12/2024, $35 a dozen

Great experience at this little mom and pop bakery shop in Richardson! Someone said on their review it was like taking a step back in time when they walked in and I totally agree. When I first walked in I did not know exactly what I was in for and so I was caught a little off guard and I also did not realize they were ONLY Egg Custards and also Cash ONLY. That being said, the owner of this establishment was very kind and accommodating to me as I came to the realizations and for that it was a five star experience right off the bat...but it only got better from there!I explained to the owner that I typically do not carry cash and would have to go get me some and he insisted that I take a custard on him and I could just settle up with him when I came to buy more. It was so kind of him I was immediately touched, but also worried that what if I did not like the egg custard....That was not a worry for me for long, it was love at first bite! I have had some great egg custards in my life, but this one was on a next-level!Needless to say, I will be becoming a regular at this place!

This is hands-down the best Hong Kong style egg tarts in the Dallas area! Don't be surprised if the owner hands you a pizza box either, it's a fun conversation starter for many.I discovered this place back in March 2020, right when COVID-19 hits, and have been supporting them since. Prices went up over the years, and it's encouraged that you order a dozen instead of buying individuals. It costs $30 for a dozen, or $5 each-- you do the math. Make sure to call ahead to place your order, and bring cash when you pick up.I did have some difficulties when ordering ahead sometimes due to the language barrier. The wife speaks Mandarin, but if you get the husband, then you can order in English on the phone. The egg tarts are big and filling, and the crust is super flaky with every bite. The store is your definition of a hole-in-the-wall, so don't be judgmental, or else you'll miss out on an amazing bakery. My boyfriend's brother said it's very good and can easily be compared with the ones he ate in San Francisco's Chinatown. I'm not sure if they sell anything else but egg tarts nowadays, but there are photos of customized cakes on the table if you want to ask. Highly recommended!!

This hole in the wall did not disappoint. These egg tarts were on point with eggs tarts that I've hand in HK. The old couple that run the place has nothing to prove toAnyone, they know their egg tarts are amazing so get some Or don't. Be prepare cash ONLY, order a dozen of hot flaky crust egg tarts and be transported back to the good Old days. The older gentleman was very sweet and kind and showed me box of the beautiful eggs tarts before taping up the box. This is my new go to spot of egg tarts for sure!

I took one step into the bakery and thought I was going back in time.... I have always heard that Maria's bakery has the best egg tarts and although I do agree, I think it is slightly overhyped. If I am craving an egg tart I do not think I will go out of my way just to get these. BUT if I am in the area, I will definitely support them

One of my favorite desserts...the egg tart aka egg custard! I typically fulfill my cravings for those delicious egg tarts while eating dim sum or from a bakery that sells other items. I was so happy to find a place that made egg tarts in abundance!!! Moreover, they taste sooooo good...the best of the best. I stepped into the store anticipating a display of the egg tarts. Everything was in the kitchen, so you probably wouldn't know what they sell unless you did a little research or noticed their handwritten sign. Here are some tips to know beforehand:*Order ahead: I ordered a dozen egg custards on the fly. Little did I know we were supposed to call ahead of time. The owner was super nice to accommodate us. They make the egg custards fresh, and the goodies were still warm in the box.*Bring cash: Make sure to bring cash. They are not taking large $100 or $50 bills.Once our order was ready, the owner gave us a free raisin sponge bread. We were very appreciative of this nice gesture. I wish this place was closer to home. These custards would be a big hit for any holiday party! Go support this mom and pop shop.

Thank you to my good friends who took me here. All I can say is WOW! This is one of the best "dan tat" (hong kong style egg tart) spot in Dallas! This hole-in-the-wall spot is owned by an old Asian couple. It looks like they used to sell baked goods back in the day but now, they only seem to sell egg tarts. You will need to call and place an order 30 minutes in advance. If not, you will be waiting 30 minutes while they freshly bake it for you. Fresh out of a random pizza box, the egg tart custard is silky smooth and not too sweet. The crust is nicely flaky and buttery. It's so gooooood! I probably could eat one whole box myself...The couples are likely to retire soon so you better hurry up and eat as much as you can!TIPS: Call in to preorder the egg tarts and make sure to bring cash (they doesn't accept $50 bills and up)For more food recs, follow me @asiangirlbigbites

I've always noticed Maria's Bakery but felt a bit intimidated to step inside because it often seemed closed. However, one day after getting my eyebrows threaded next door, I decided to give it a try. Walking in, I saw they were selling egg tarts for $5 each and opted for two. The man offered me 6 for $15, which I agreed to for the better value. To my surprise, he gave me 7 and mentioned how lucky I was since most orders needed to be placed ahead of time. The egg tarts were delicious and flaky, definitely the best I've had in DFW. I would highly recommend Maria's Bakery.
