Local Yocal BBQ and Grill

Ambiance:From the moment you walk through the door they have done a great job of creating a wonderful experience. From the build out to the portraits of the important founding figures of the local area it all is tastefully done. Service:People that love their jobs and have a real sense of care. The team of staff is wonderful and they have certainly taken time to train as there is real buyin to what they are aiming for. Food:Love it all! I have eaten here a number of times and brought different friends each time. Everyone is blown away with the quality, variety, experience and most of all portions! From the Smoked wagyu chicken fried steak to the shrimp and grits it is all amazing! No corners cut when they serve you a wonderful meal with outstanding service. One of top favorites in the DFW area.

I was debating between 3 and 4 stars and settled on 4, let me tell you why. Local Yocal is in a great location. The service is very friendly and does a great job attending to their guests. The overall layout of the restaurant is perfect for a date night or family dinner. If you're going to put "BBQ" in the name of the restaurant when Hutchins is down the street, you better bring it with the BBQ sampler plate. It was in fact, brought. The brisket and smoked sausage were tremendous. For main courses, my wife ordered the health-nut grain bowl w/ steak skewers. The bowl was good, the steak was cooked perfectly. I ordered the wild caught mkt special which was swordfish with carrot risotto. I'm not going to say I didn't enjoy it. I will say that I've been here before, and you're making a mistake if you don't order a steak or literally anything else but fish. Ordering fish and risotto at a BBQ and grill place was more my mistake.

Service was good. Many to keep the waters filled. Due to the noise and the distance from the wait staff, she had a hard time hearing our orders. Suggest they walk around the table, to be near the pression ordering. We ended up with a full carafe vs the requested half, and ended up paying for the full. The whole 1.5 hour restriction is just annoying. Steaks were not cooked correctly. Two of us ordered steaks (NY Strip & filet). Ordered medium rare. The NY Strip came out about 50% well done, the other half was medium/well. (Some pink; no red. ) Since they slice it in half when plating it, they should have caught it before bringing it out. The taste was marginal because of that mistake. Filet was medium. Taste was ok, not great. Chicken fried steaks were very good. Typical very loud environment. Not sure why everyone thinks noise=fun environment.

The Local Yocal franchise of restaurants and stores ranges from great - Local Yocal Butcher Shop to good Loyo Burger to eh Local Yocal BBQ and Grill. The butcher shop is awesome- the folks behind the counter are super helpful and the cuts of meats amazing. They also have great bread and buns here. Loyo Burger which they don't advertise as being a play on Local Yocal. Great burger option for historic downtown McKinney- much better imo than Square Burger! And finally this restaurant- which is not a good value, the staff is hit or miss, and the food mediocre.

I had a pleasant experience at Yocal Local. The food was well-prepared and presented beautifully. The Hamilton Burger was juicy, and the fries were crispy, just how I like them. The French onion dip was a great starter, and the classic margarita was perfectly balanced.Our server started off strong--she was very attentive, made sure our drinks were filled, and took our orders promptly. However, as the meal progressed, her attentiveness began to waiver. We noticed longer wait times for refills and for her to check on us as we neared the end of our meal. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but it did affect the overall experience slightly.That said, Yocal Local is still a great spot for a casual meal with good food and drinks. I'd recommend it, but hope the service stays consistent throughout the visit next time.

Great local spot with excellent quality food, service and atmosphere! Everything we had was truly stellar and we honestly could've shared one main dish! Don't skip out on the beef ribs, Mac and cheese or friend green tomatoes. I'll dream about all of it! Pro Tip: Make a reservation in advance but you can get lucky if you go early enough and just walk in. But don't chance it.

What an experience!!! Fresh delicious farm to table meats and eats!! For appetizers we had the jalapeño cornbread which is to die for and the bbq sampler. Meat so flavorful and falling off the bone. Brisket just melted in your mouth! Delicious! For entree I had the NY strip and the table ordered one of each side dish on the menu! I tried the garlic mashed and the string beans. Both very good! The show stopper was that amazing chimichurri sauce!! Amazing!!!!! For drinks I had the 'not your pina colada' or something to that sort! Totally different from what you would think but delicious and loved the presentation. Then I tried the cherry limeade adult drink and it was yummy and refreshing! Service was great and very attentive and ambiance very cool! Loved the brick bar and wood tones!

Simply wonderful restaurant! We have been here multiple times this time was the same amazing waiter, fantastic food, and just peaceful surroundings. We chose to sit outside since the weather was amazing which just put the icing on the cake. There was a festival going on down the street so it made for a wonderful day of people watching. I tried the lamb chops with mashed potatoes and my husband had the Hamilton burger all very tasty. Unfortunately I didn't get a pic of the appetizer nor the Arnold Palmer I drank. I almost didn't get the two pictures I did get. Was really enjoying the moment.

We went to Local Yocal BBQ for our friend Rhys' birthday lunch since it's his favorite spot. He recommended I try the Hamilton sandwich, and it did not disappoint! The fries and green beans I got on the side were solid as well. Our waitress was super nice and funny, which made the experience even better. The food was excellent, and the ambiance inside had a great vibe. Rhys claims this is the best sandwich/burger in the DFW area, and after trying it, I might have to agree!

The worst!As a resident of DT McKinney, I've been to the Local Yocal several times, but the last time has compelled me to write my first ever Yelp review.Keep in mind we made this reservation for my friend's Birthday. First off there was a slight issue with our server, and I physically left our table and ordered a beverage at the bar. Then I had an issue with my meal, a rib eye special. After speaking with staff, and eventually the manager/chef, they were very dismissive and slightly rude. He eventually offered me a "free appetizer" on my next visit. I in no way wanted a free meal, but a measly appetizer with a net cost of $4 was absolutely insulting! My steak alone was $100.Absolutely ridiculous and honestly the worst service I've ever witnessed.We will never go back! Do yourself a favor and go to a restaurant where the owner and manager actually care about their customers.
