Had lunch there, the place is super nice and our server helped me to make a great selection. Started with tempura green beans then combo pad Thai. Price was reasonable and the quality of the food really impressive.

Delicious! Recommended! The service is friendly and attentive. The staff is excellent whether you're craving hibachi, sushi, or table service. Lava Asian Grill, a gem among Asian cuisine restaurants, stands out for its unique blend of hibachi, sushi, and table service. Our usual preference is hibachi, but today, we decided to explore their lunch menu during a leisurely break. To our delight, the lunch menu offered a generous portion of high-quality, delectable food. We sampled a variety of dishes, each of which we highly recommend. Miso Soup: Traditional Japanese soy bean soup with tofu, seaweed, scallions and mushrooms.Salad: A simple mix of lettuce, cucumber and tomato, served with a miso-based dressing.Bangkok Beef: A tantalizing dish of wok-tossed cubed beef infused with the rich flavors of tomato, onion, and our exclusive garlic Bangkok sauce. Served with steamed rice, this dish can be upgraded to fried rice for a more indulgent experience. We absolutely loved this dish and highly recommend it for its robust flavors and tender beef.Combo Box: The entrée and side change each day. Today, we ordered cashew chicken and Fuji mushroom side. Though the selection was delicious, it was very mild. Perhaps a more adventurous choice would have been the teriyaki beef. The ambiance is classy. Whether you dress up for a date night or show up casually, you'll feel at home. It's usually fairly quiet, but it can be festive at the hibachi tables. This restaurant is one of our go-to's for celebrations and satisfies that impromptu craving for delicious Japanese cuisine. They also do a very steady to-go business with quality and generous orders. We have the restaurant on speed dial for sure. Add this restaurant to your short-list for Asian cuisine. We highly recommend Lava Asian Grill!

I was visiting in the Dallas area and was taken to this restaurant for dinner. Even though it is in a strip mall, the interior was well designed, ornate, and quite nice. We sat at the sushi bar. The sushi chef knew the two people I dined with and made it a very personal experience for us.I am not a salmon eater, yet I enjoyed their salmon. It was fresh and clean tasting. I enjoyed several other rolls too. One was an eel roll, which I thoroughly love eel. It was a nice specialty roll, but needed more eel to balance flavors. I will joyfully come back to this place in the future when I visit the Dallas area.

I ordered a few things to be delivered to my hotel room. The New York roll was okay, although they didn't include chopsticks. And there were two cut shrimp tails in the roll. But it was tasty. The rest not so much. I ordered the pad Thai with vegetables and tofu. The option of vegetables was weird and what I got was even weirder. Broccoli and baby corn, okay. But bell peppers? Zucchini?! The whole dish tasted like dish soap and I couldn't finish it.I also got the fried mashed potatoes, because I love potatoes. This could just be a personal taste, but the breading was weird, the potatoes bland, and the dipping sauce didn't seem to match the flavor of each.So three stars for the sushi, I guess, but it's not worth a return.

After nine years or more, this visit has prompted me to return to Yelp!! I've been out of the country that entire time. So, first, I'm sure these people are all very nice and have families who love them. I am reviewing my experience, NOT who I think any one is as a person. So, you know this is going to be rough...Choosing Lava on a family recommendation for my wife's and my anniversary dinner, we walked in at exactly 7:00 with Hibachi reservations for 7:00. We were confused as there was no host/hostess, and it wasn't obvious where to check-in. I'm sure it was the manager/owner and then assistant manager who greeted us warmly in turn and then showed us to our table... our empty table next to a full table. (It's dual hibachi in the round with 7 seats to each side.) That felt awkward, but everyone has to wait for a full setting. After a few minutes (like only 10) a server came running up trying to talk through their mask (are we really doing that again?) to get our drinks orders: "Thai iced tea"($4.00) and just water. When they brought that back they took our order for the appetizer sampler (pictured below, $16), the Pad mee kow pork($14.50), and hibachi combo scallop ($33.59) and shrimp, plus and extra plating (fried rice, soup, salad, a share of vegetables, and 2 shrimp for $9)Several minutes more pass. The free... "kimchi" served with our waters staved off our hunger as when we took a bite neither of us felt the desire to eat anything else for these several minutes.Thankfully we then were served Thai tea to wash it out. But then, the Thai tea was even worse! The tea leaves were old and dank, the sweetener tasted partially artificial. Neither of us drank any more of it.The pad kee mao arrived next. It was a gargantuan portion, which was excellent. I quite liked it, though my wife was somewhat unimpressed. Granted I do like the Thailand 7-Eleven microwave spaghetti kee mao MUCH better, but this pad kee mao was decently spiced with basil and oyster sauce. I'd order this again. The appetizer sampler arrived next with pot stickers, calamari, garlic edamame, and fried mushrooms in wasabi mayo and sesame seeds. I thought each was quite good, though the chirashiju sprinkled on the calamari was a weak attempt at making squid interesting. The dining room bandit arrived again bearing soup and salad."Enjoy this!" they commanded.I could not comply as this was the worst soup ever served with hibachi, and the salads shared a slice of tomato that would have been more at home being fried at the Whistle Stop Cafe. (That means it was closer to green than red.) I had to literally expel it -- descretely. The rest of the table was arriving and getting settled in. From behind towards the from door I heard a loud clamor and then shout I couldn't understand and then the sound of door being flung open. I was startled and shocked... moved to stand up, fearimg that we were about to be part of Texas history like the patrons of the Luby's in Killeen... or that Taqueria in Houston... or that DQ in Keller. Wow, this felt really unsafe! I was half standing before considering that I was unarmed! The Masked server arrived with more waters, asking me if there was anything I needed... oblivious or trying to shame me into not paying attention to the disturbance? I can't tell. The hibachi chef arrived soon after and everything seemed to relax. He was very nice and tried his best to entertain without the lame jokes but with a decent onion volcano! The fried rice was overly salty by way of soy sauce, a trend that continued with shrimp, scallops, and vegetables. In fact the rice was so salty that my wife couldn't eat it due to a medically restricted diet. The scallops were rare the shrimp only slightly overcooked -- eight in the combo serving and two extra for the $9 extra plate. We received three scallops and four shrimp each -- which should have been five each. The vegetables were fine; a good blend of zucchini, bell pepper, onion, and broccoli. At this point though I called for the check and four boxes in order to share this *amazing* experience with our children and mother.I was astounded at the extra charge for two fried rices... WTF did that come from? I guess the dining room bandit really did live up to their costume.Very kindly the manager offered to put the Thai tea in a to-go cup. I thanked her but declined, explaining that we really didn't like it. "Oh, you could have told someone and we'd have taken it off your bill..." I stood staring at her. She did nothing. $90 for mostly curt service, some horrible food, some decent food, and only being asked once if everything was ok, and only after we'd gotten our checks. I only tipped 11%, which was too much. There is a saying,"First time, last time." It applies here, sadly.**BREAKDOWN**Service 2/5Kimchi 1/5Thai tea 1/5Pad kee mao 3/5Appetizers mentioned 3/5Fried rice 3/5Scallops 2/5Shrimp 2/5Vegetable 4/521÷9= 2.3

Lava has been a favorite of our family's for years for both dine in and take-out. They saved our date night after having a terrible experience at another restaurant. The food was great, staff incredibly friendly, and you always know what to expect.

The sushi is always good. Service is pretty good. They're in a strip center so wouldn't say the ambiance is great. It's just 2 large rooms. One with a few Hibachi tables & a dining room. My 3 star review is because they've gotten SO EXPENSIVE! Almost $20 or more for a sushi roll when they used to cost $8.00 to $13.00. Dinner plates are close to $30.00. In an upscale sushi restaurant I'd expect these prices but NOT at this place. Sorry LG! You've priced yourself so high we don't choose to eat here anymore.

This place was good. We came here with friends and had a wonderful time. The staff is very friendly. The hibachi chef really wants to make sure everyone has a good time by cracking jokes and interacting with guests. You get some clear soup at the begging which was very good. I had a passion fruit Margarita that had just the perfect amount of alcohol. For my dinner I had the lobster with fried rice and it was amazing!!! The lobster was cooked perfectly. We will definitely be returning here.

After being a customer for 10 years we had lunch at lava girl today. The Combo box lunch was not what we have experienced in the past. They are obviously are using MSG on the meat and the portion was smaller. The server was cold and not very helpful. We will not be going back. Very disappointed.
