The place i wanted to go to was closed today :( a quick stroll down the street and in I walk into JD's. It has a backyard bar b que feel that feels more Texas as you listen to the country music they play in the background. I opted for the combo platter. I chose ribs, brisket, fries and ranch beans. They give you a choice of saucing your meet or placing it on the side. It's also worth to note that the lemonade and tea are house made. If your avoiding high fructose corn syrup that's the way to go or they offer sever Mexican sodas that are made with real sugarThe ribs were the best part of my meal. A bit crispy on the outside, more like a fried rib. The brisket tasted like the fridge and my assumption from taste is that is old. Neither meats had a smokiness to them. It's truly Texas BBQ no real smoked flavor more nuanced to highlight the meat. Surprisingly they only had one bbq sauce. I would expect to see a mustard bbq as it probably would pair better with the meat I was served today. I'm from Kansas BBQ caption of the world and honestly this bbq doesnt compare.

Return visit early Tuesday evening. Our group of six were the only people in the entire restaurant. After studying the menu I had my heart set on a baked potato loaded with either pork or beef barbecue. Two ladies at my table ordered the loaded baked potato before me. When the waitress came to me she promptly informed me that they don't have any more baked potatoes. They only have the two for the ladies. Seriously? It was barely 6 PM on a Tuesday night with no one else in the restaurant except us.I studied the menu again and decided on the fish tacos and a side salad. Was very disappointed as the fish tacos were two tacos with two very tiny pieces of grilled fish. No condiments or dressing of any kind just a plain piece of fish with the tortilla. I was still hungry after my meal.I don't plan on coming back to JDs because my time is too valuable. I really get miffed after I study a menu, make a decision, and then learn that they can't fulfill my order due to lack of stock. How can any restaurant with a baked potato on the menu run short after 2 orders?

It should be illegal to call this BBQ. There's no way the brisket or ribs I got had seen the inside of a smoker. Zero smoke ring and zero bark. Plus it was the least amount of meat I've ever gotten in a bbq sandwich. Fries were also soggy and undercooked. 2 stars for toasted bun but don't go here if you want BBQ aka smoked meat.

Family owned place, friendly staff but that cambo tested just ok. Brisket was ok but there was no bark on it, the ribs as you can see on the picture had bones shown & could have been crispy. Lentils were ok but the sweet potatoes fries were very greasy. The cambo was $15.

JD's BBQ and Grill is an interesting place. First off, if you are a smoked meat BBQ snob such as I am, you may be disappointed. I was expecting something along the lines of Lockhart's, Pecan Lodge or Baby Back Shak. JD's is not in this vein of BBQ. Having said that, I have had the baby back ribs and the BBQ 1/2 chicken and found it excellent. The BBQ here is reminiscent of that old standby Tony Roma's.........and there's a reason for that. Talking with the owner/chef on my last visit here, he divulged that he worked for Tony Roma's for 16 years cranking out their BBQ.That covers the BBQ part of JD's BBQ and Grill. The grill part offers a variety of offerings including grilled salmon, fish tacos, grilled chicken and a very tasty grilled chicken salad. The service all three times I have been here has been EXTRAORDINARY. This is truly a family-run business and everyone on duty bends over backwards to ensure your satisfaction. They are friendly and genuinely concerned with your dining experience. There is ample dining space and the atmosphere is family-casual. They have space out front for sidewalk dining and taking in the atmosphere of Jefferson Ave.Overall, I like this joint......a lot. But, that being said, I have a couple of nits to pick. The fries have been hit or miss when I have had them. The space and the atmosphere of the dining room seems a bit spare and barren. One wall has pictures of the family and assorted flair; but, the other wall is bare. The biggest nit is that the whole "concept" seems unfinished or unformed......like they are still figuring it all out. I am confident that after a little more time, they will find their true concept and express it. I think JD's is an excellent place to grab a good meal at a REASONABLE price point.

This is the best BBQ I've had in over a decade! The ribs were so tender and juicy. The meat fell off the bone. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing! I can't believe that everyone in DFW isn't flocking to JD's BBQ and Grill!

I ate here for the first time today and it won't be the last! Got a 1/2 rack of ribs with steamed veggies and french fries. The ribs were tender and cooked just right. I ate every bit of meat off those bones! This is a family owned business and the owners are very nice people. They have family pictures and pictures of regular customers on the wall. The atmosphere is very friendly and inviting.

Worst bbq I've ever had. The brisket was chewy, almost all fat, and completely inedible. The fries were obviously not fresh and still frozen in the middle. The pecan pie tastes like it out out of a Walmart freezer and then heated up. No one should ever eat here. I wish I could leave a 0 star review.
