Haven't been to this joint in YEARS, so Hubby and I decided to stop in for a quick couple of games of pool and revisit our old stomping grounds.I remember the food being amazing bar food but we just ate so didn't get a chance to try anything. The beer was cold, crowd pretty chill for a Saturday night, and staff were nice. It is a very old building and super divey, only complaint is there's a very strong smell when you first walk in. I guess you can get acclimated but it lingers, so be aware. Other than that, can't beat $6/hour for pool and cheap beer!!

JR's has its own flavor. If you don't care for it that is fine. It has always been this way and should never change.Great place for pool, meet friends, drink and eat.Staff is always cool and laid back.This is not an Addison type place so don't bother visiting if youare sensitive and want whipped cream on your beer.Charter member since 1978.Put in a lot of quarters in arcade games.Fell in love there a few times too.

Okay so let's get the obvious out of the way....this is a dive type pool hall. So you don't expect much in the way of ambiance. However, I rate pool halls on four criteria:1. Atmosphere2. Pool table condition3. Drink prices4. FoodThough I detail the criteria below it gets 4 stars on the friendliness, pool pricing, and drink prices.1. Atmosphere- friendly staff and regulars . Regulars can ruin a pool hall so that's a big hurdle. Check. Otherwise the pool hall layout is disjointed and typical. Not so much planned as it is acquired. Acquired one piece of mismatched furniture at a time. 2. Pool table condition- though it is no Click's (Arlington, TX) , these tables are level, no dead rails, with felt that is both fairly fast and in great condition. Spacing between tables is good. The only downside is that the House Cues are pretty rough. By the way, during the day it is 2.00 per hour. Evening 4.00 per hour!!!!!! Omg! This cheap price alone was worth a star. That's cheap.3. Drink prices- jack and coke was 4.00 bucks and poured liberally. Check!4. Food- we didn't t eat today so I can't offer an opinion.

Reeked of smoke!When I went, every pool table (except one) was occupied. I was the only female, and my friend and I were the only people of color. Not complaining, just stating my observation.Old white men love this place! They had country music blaring through the jukebox, and personally I couldn't stand it. So I gave the juke box $5 to blast trap music for 15 minutes or so. It was great! I'm glad they had that technology or else I would've dipped ASAP.Pool is $6/hr. The bartenders were friendly, and checked on me and my guest to see if we wanted anything to drink.Overall, I'll be back. I'll bring extra money for the jukebox, and I might even order a girly drink or two (because they looked so yummy!)

This bar is one of my favorite spots in Denton. It definitely has some character to it, and is filled with some characters too, but the staff are always happy to see me, the drinks are always cold, and the balls are always crackin. Its been in Denton for decades, and for good reason. Give this bar a try if you're in the area.

I have been here a couple of times but after last night I will not be going back.For a Sunday night the drink specials were horrible. The wait staff was horrible. Our server forgot our drink order three times. The place was dead last night and the staff seemed to be focused more on hugging friends and each other instead of serving customers. I will say that the fried cheese sticks are amazing. But pricey. $6 for six sticks. They also did not charge me for pool. They gave my id to my friend instead of me. I was waiting at the bar to close my tab for three minutes before someone came to help me. I will not be going back.

Been going here during the day, weekly for a few months. The price is right, the beer is cold and the bartenders are friendly. There's no smoking here. May have been in the past, but the smokers all step outside. There is not a smell of smoke here. The pool tables are in good shape. The bathrooms could use a little TLC.

Pool sharks looking for the gritty over the pretty look no further! J R Pockets isn't the nicest of bars in Denton, but it's easily the best pool hall. With a ton of tables front and center and some stiff competition, you may wonder why you'd play anywhere else. They also have some nice drink specials; especially on Mondays when domestic drafts are $2 and other drafts are $2.50 after 8. Hard to beat that!

Old School Pool Hall. Lots of tables. Lots of players. Surprisingly good bar food. Beer always cold.

JR Pockets is a clean and very pleasant environment. I love playing pool there. I've had a delicious hamburger and Buffalo wings. Everyone that we have met from the get go were congeniel and interesting.I have been there 5 times and looking forward to my next visit to this establishment where the people are wonderful. The Staff are great too. Thank You JR Pockets for being there and having a place to go and enjoy the fun game of pool. Thanks for such good hospitality.see ya's soon
