Freckle's Chicken

Allow time bc it's made to order and it's a gas station, so it's not somewhere to meet up with friends, but I received the crispiest, tastiest, best seasoned piping hot chicken, fried okra, and corn on the cob last night. Chicken comes w fries, a slice of bread, and a few jalapeños. You get a lot, too. Hopefully, someday they'll open a second location in south Mesquite bc I drove over 20 minutes each way. (I was really glad it was still hot at home)

Stopped by today on the recommendation of a friend. They're located inside a convenience store ( so you wont think you're missing them). The young lady was very welcoming and the owner also greeted me. I didn't order a drink but she offered me a complimentary iced tea, which was probably the best tea I've had in a while. I have 2 serious questions: 1. What is the definition of "just"?The young lady at the register AND the owner assured me that I would be getting FRESHLY COOKED wings because they "JUST" came out of the fryer and so were the fries.She handed me my back, I got to the car and this was not the case.Question 2:Why do some places have a problem preparing food to order?When I take the time to visit a business and am willing to wait, I think the LEAST the business should do is accommodate my request for fresh food. I don't want what "just came out" because "just" is subjective. JUST make it fresh, please and thanks.Rarely do I try a place and go back if the experience is less than favorable but I'll try them again and report back.

Come ye come all to the best fried chicken in the metroplex!! Looking at the Dallas subreddit you will find Freckles under the best fried chicken in Dallas. Similar to Mikes chicken they fry to order but the seasonings they use are smack yo momma good. All orders come with fries, pickles, peppers and bread. My go to for fried chicken when I'm close to mesquite. Note the updated menu no longer includes fish.

I would definitely visit again. The chicken isn't as seasoned as it could be. I would love for them to season the inside and not just the skin on the outside, but I would definitely eat here over and over. I don't think you'll find this type of fried chicken elsewhere, but it could be seasoned on the inside.

I found this place because of Twitter and a guy that was referred to as the Evil Keith Lee. Apparently he gives distasteful reviews on places etc hence the nickname. I've seen like two of his videos and didn't care for his delivery. Moving on, he decided to go to places he gave bad reviews to give them a second chance. I moved to DFW in 2014 from Chicago and I haven't found good chicken yet. I've been to Rudy's etc. The review this time was heart warming. He said the food is a complete 180 from the last time but what truly won me over was the owner's vulnerability and passion. He said that they had just opened and that he was HURT by that review, life has been lifing and as a man trying to make it, you felt his pain. Restaurants are a TOUGH business and most don't make it so for that review to come out at that time could've killed his dream but he locked in and made some changes and apparently it was for the better. At that point, I was sold and I was going to support regardless of quality of the food, after 10 years of searching for good chicken I had low hopes lol. Listen here, I don't know if it was the initial review, god, or big mama from soul food but that chicken was made with the love of everything that's holy!!! Everything is made to order so it will take some time and there were quite a few people in there. The chicken was crispy, juicy, FLAVORFUL, that finishing seasoning hits DIFFERENT!!! The fries were cool, nothing special. They had the finishing seasoning on them as well, I had added some more salt and pepper and it took em up a notch. I had the kool-aid was good. It was sweet but not overly sweet. The only knock I had about it was the drink was a little warm, it could've used more ice and I always order drinks with lite ice but didn't this time. Not a huge deal.This place is about 35 mins from me with no traffic and 50-60 mins with traffic so I won't be making the journey often, but if I'm ever close to this place, I'm stopping and getting food off GP... I don't even have to be hungry. No exaggeration when I say that this is the best fried chicken that I've had in the DFW area! Well done bro! All the respect to you!

This chicken made a ninja go back in time to when grandma was in the kitchen frying up fresh yard bird. Lawdt...‍

The food was nice in portion size and flavor! The customer service was also pretty standard. I ordered the chicken sandwich (which is two tenders on a bun), gizzards and 2 piece mix. With the food being cooked to order, the wait was not too long. I would return here :)

Chicken was good. Cashier has a nasty attitude- rude about everything! 100% will not spend my money here again.

Usually I have a good experience here but today was different. I like that the food is made to order but when I'm told it'll be 15 minutes I didn't expect 30 minutes wait. I placed my order at 6:28pm and finally got it at 5:58pm. The lady that handed it to me also didn't seem to be in a good mood, just handed it to me with no word being said. It's also ridiculous the size of the legs I got with my family order!!!! They look like wing drummetts!!!!FRIES UNDERCOOKED!!!!!!
