1st. Time there, I'm Highly Recommending this place!Had the Hamburger Steak $9.95+ sides Topped with grilled onions and brown gravy.Cooked Cabbage and Tots, Turns out they mince the Steak in house and (smoke it?) I actually talked with Darrn too, he brought out the Tenderizer to show us. Every Bite was Excellent. YUM If you need assistance, they keep a watchful eye and we saw several assisted into their seats.

I've had breakfast here several times recently. Kinda funny since it's two blocks from my home, and we never really went back after they first opened and we dined for dinner, which was not up to speed for our dining out for dinner opportunities. Not bad, just not a place I want to have a night dining out with my wife. It's more of a neighborhood bar feel with average bar food for lunch and dinner. But, I wanted basic breakfast and saw what they were offering and decided to give them a try. I'm glad I did! First, the ambiance is very much a neighborhood bar vibe. Several big screen TV's going, and somewhat dark interior as most every surface is black. Padded stack chairs are far more comfortable than the metal industrial chairs that are so popular today. There are some half booths in the back. A small private room will hold about 10 people comfortably. And a bar with padded barstools. I usually sit there when I'm alone. As for the staff, they are a hard working bunch determined to take care of their customers. Friendly, helpful, most seem well seasoned to this type of work, none of the youngsters who could care less about you or your dining experience. It's all good.Speaking of staff, the owner is usually on site, either at the bar or in the kitchen. He is easy to talk to, and knows all the regulars. Sometimes he sits with them. Yes, there are many regulars. I've started noticing the same cars in the parking lot when I go there or drive by. That's a good thing for the longevity of this business. Now about breakfast. I always get the same thing: two eggs soft scrambled, sausage patties, grits and substitute biscuit and gravy for toast, which is a small up-charge. It's always hot and delicious! I'm not going to speak to the current offerings for lunch and dinner as I have not tried them. They may be greatly improved since way back when they first opened. I'll let you be the judge of that. But as for breakfast, do about over $10 I find this to be a bargain and so much better than fast food at prices that are competitive with fast food these days. Did I mention they have a bar? So a Bloody Mary is not out of the question with your breakfast if you are so inclined.

I had seen someone suggest dining at Darren's American Grill on a local neighborhood site, so we decided to check it out. We came for an early dinner on Saturday night. It's a relaxed kind of place with a huge bar and even live entertainment sometimes. There was a sign when you entered that said seat yourself. We found a two top and sat ourselves down. A friendly older server came and welcomed us and took our drink order. She told us that live entertainment would be starting in about 40 minutes. A couple of diners that arrived a few minutes later moved tables from where they initially sat when they found out they'd be right in front of the entertainment. Hubby wanted chicken fried steak and I ordered chicken fried chicken, with the gravy on the side. We both wanted mashed potatoes and fried okra. The food was delivered quickly and it was very good! Part of my breading fell off the chicken so I took a bite of it without the chicken and it was quite salty. I didn't notice that when I ate it with the chicken. Everything had a great texture and it was served piping hot. I did notice that all the servers just pitched in when needed. We had things delivered and table check-in's by 3 different ladies. They were all very attentive and friendly. We asked for a to-go container that we could put our leftovers in. Plenty of food for another meal for both of us!A man started playing guitar and singing right as we were about to leave. We stayed for "Tequila Sunrise" , clapped when he finished and then left. Food was delicious, service was great and prices were fair. We'll definitely be back!

I ate here years ago with co-workers. Today we met with an ex-coworker that remembered Darren's American. It was a good meeting with good conversation and good food. Walking in, there is nothing that stands out. The restaurant was clean, replete with a modest bar. They'll serve breakfast until 2 P.M. It was time to order. My spouse and friend ordered the meatloaf. The serving was large. The review was good. The sides needed a little seasoning. The chef must be careful seasoning -- a little salt and pepper perked up the sides. I ordered a short stack of beer-battered hotcakes. Unless you're a devout pancake fan, two will be enough, especially if you order anything else. The takeaway is this: From our experience, don't go there if you are short on time. It wasn't a long wait, but we did wait. The portions are good, and the meatloaf size was impressive. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. You'll appreciate the bill. The total was very fair for what was served. I give the restaurant a solid 4. I will return. If you crave dishes ala Americana, Darren's will fulfill your desire.

Came in for Sunday Fun at Darren's and what a delicious Breakfast we had. I had a short stack and Tiki Hubby went for Chicken Fried Steak, biscuits with gravy, extra crispy hash browns and scrambled eggs. (No surprise). It was delicious the steak was thin tender with a light crispy coating covered in pepper gravy. Eggs fluffy and hash browns cooked to order. Of course I try every bite. The pancakes were good light fluffy and buttery. Not sure why I even ordered as plenty of food. Rebecca our server kept our drinks filled and brought our food out hot. An added treat was live music by Charlie a very large selection of good music. Great way to start Sunday Funday Go Cowboys.
