Another great arts program sponsored by the Dallas Museum of Art. Four short stories read by stars of stage and screen equals a fun, stimulating night of entertainment.Hosted by BD Wong who read 2 selections,he was accompanied by Maggie Siff of Billions and Brandon Dirden of All the Way.Each reading was twenty to thirty minutes long with perfect execution. The stories themselves are exceptionally written and the combination of that and being read by a professional is another level of entertainment. Thanks DMA for continuing to bring leading edge events to our city

The DMA deserves a place in the pantheon of great museums. I'm not saying that because I live in Dallas. It's objectively a phenomenal museum with so many excellent galleries. You can easily spend the whole day here. In the past year, I've visited several world class museums (The V&A, National Portrait Gallery and The Museo Nacional de Bella Artes), and the DMA can hold it's own against those. Now here's the thing; while other museums may have more famous pieces, the breadth of representation is just as impressive. Whatever era of art you are looking for, it's likely represented. They have whole galleries dedicated to Egyptian Art, Meso-American Art, Ancient Roman Art, Islamic Art...and more! If modern is more your speed, you'll find impressive collections featuring giant luminaries such as Magritte, Picasso, Modigliani...If you prefer more classic European Art, they have an astounding collection of paintings and a mind-blowing collection of etchings, including pieces by Rembrandt and Albrecht Dürer. Other museums may have more famous paintings, but. Sometimes those pieces are just over hyped. The DMA has done a marvelous job acquiring quality pieces that are just as awe-inspiring as you would find at other world class museums. The DMA has also hosted many impressive exhibitions through the years. Most recently I attended the Cecily Brown mid-career retrospective which was wonderful, but other notable exhibits I've attended have been the Dior and Jean-Paul Gautier shows. These were world-class and truly outstanding! In addition to the incredible collection of art, the museum itself is a beautiful building. With its multilevel floor plan; I've always enjoyed going all the way up to the top, and then making my way down through the galleries. There's lots of natural light and plenty of special architectural flourishes that give the space a life all its own. It's giant, but also plays with scale. Some galleries are small and intimate, while others are vast and open. Parking is easy- they have $20 underground parking or if you are up for an adventure,You may be able to find street parking. The museum is free for general admission. There are charges for special exhibitions. Their website is easy to navigate and is a good resource for planning your visit.Overall, The DMA is a stellar experience and makes constant strides to be a top museum. It's a true gem and adds so much to the Dallas cultural landscape.

The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) is a gem in the heart of the city! One of the best things about it is that many of the exhibits are completely free to explore. It's amazing to have access to such a high-quality museum without needing a ticket for the general collection. The museum itself is beautiful, with an impressive range of art from ancient to modern times. The galleries are thoughtfully curated, offering something for everyone, whether you're into European masterpieces, contemporary works, or artifacts from ancient cultures. If you want to see special exhibitions, those usually require a ticket, but they're always worth it. The museum also hosts engaging events like lectures, workshops, and family friendly activities. The location in the Arts District is perfect, and there's a lovely sculpture garden and café to relax in after you explore. I recommend arriving early, especially on weekends, to avoid the crowds. For art lovers or anyone looking for a budget-friendly cultural experience in Dallas, the DMA is a must-visit!

Short walk from the Orange line, well worth the ride from Irving where I was in town for a conference. I had an odd experience on entry, directed to check in at a front desk which really wasn't in the front entry area directly and it seemed like I was there to buy tickets. I showed my Milwaukee Art Museum members card and asked if they shared reciprocity. I've done this at art museums around the world, and, sometimes they say "yes, we have reciprocity" and they give me an entry ticket gratis, sometimes at a discount, sometimes they say "no, we don't have reciprocity, but thank you for being a supporter of the arts," and I pay full price, and sometimes I get talked into becoming a member of an art museum in another city. This time there was a strange discussion between the two desk workers as they closely examined my MAM membership card for a "sticker," didn't look at any list for reciprocity, and after some tsk tsking, was told "we can't accept this without a sticker." I thought this was very odd, but then readied for payment, and was told, "admission is free." Well why not start with that? Then walking a short way to the first gallery, I was blocked entry, told by this worker that "admission to this gallery requires a ticket." I was directed back to the entry desk. Instead I decided to start at the top level of the free part, which required a peculiar ride in three different elevators. I should have been told to take the stairs because the stairs are not just more direct, they offer a remarkable view of some of the largest pieces of art. Why are they called pieces of art when they are entirely intact? This is the way to see the museum, which has a very large, very high quality variety of breathtaking art. In particular I appreciated their Silk Road exhibit, the Surrealist and Impressionist collections, the African and North American indigenous art. I never did find out what was in the ticket admission only exhibits, the free admission areas require a couple of days to see. Very nice cafe and gift store. Fear no Art!

What happens on a Friday night in Big D? Lots!! But for those who have aged out of the party scene, the DMA regularly invites authors and artists to speak. This week was Brad Meltzer who has a new book on JFK coming out this month. He was a great speaker. Good stories and funny! My only critique of the evening was the DMA closed from 5-6. I could have hung out and upped my culture score but they booted me for an hour.

The Dallas museum of art is free to the public however you need to make an online appointment and they will email you a ticket. When it comes to parking, their parking garage is $20 for the day. You can find cheaper options by street parking or checking with other nearby oarking garages. The Dallas Museum of Art is three stories, broken up by various cultures. The had interactive videos and activities in certain sections which were cool. The Islamic art exhibit was small yet beautiful, I enjoyed looking at the pieces and learning more about the culture. I also enjoyed the contemporary, classical and modern art pieces as well. They do have additional exhibits that you pay for and they rotate every couple of months. The staff were friendly and were knowledgeable about the museum. The gift shop was nice with plenty of trinkets as well. I look forward to returning to DMA.

We were visiting Dallas with family and decided to see the Museum's Frida exhibit. It's arranged chronologically and contains some of her sketches and works along with photos of her. You'll learn about her childhood, the accident she wasn't expected to survive, and her complicated relationship with Diego Rivera. Given the time we had set aside, we only had time for one more exhibit...the Keir Collection of Islamic Art. It contained works from the Indus Valley to the western Mediterranean. Amazing ceramic, textiles, metalwork, and manuscripts from over 13 centuries are displayed. It's an amazing collection and study. We had no trouble finding parking in the underground garage (for a fee), and the staff was friendly. We've been to DMA when visiting before, and we'll come back again.

We love a free museum!! Tickets were easily obtained on their online website and I downloaded them as a pdf for easy scanning upon arrival. All of the exhibits were stunning and we enjoyed our time casually walking around observing them. The staff is very attentive to the guests and will caution you if you are too close to the art. The cafe served free flavored water and I felt that the gift shop was a trinket filled extension of the art gallery. The 2 hour street parking cost under $5. I loved this low cost, highly enjoyable museum.

The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) always has several exhibits taking place. The exhibits are diverse enough that different tastes will be placated, inspired, and delighted by their offerings. Buy an annual membership, now $120 for the supporter level (2024), and get two tickets daily to see all that is on exhibit. This also includes free parking in the garage below (a $20 a day value). Buy your membership online and renew each year with ease. You can also buy it on site. Their front desk staff are extremely helpful. Escape the heat of the summer or the cold of the winter and take refuge at the DMA. They are located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas. There is plenty to do in the area, but this is a destination in itself worthy of a day outing several times a year.
